We stayed at the Omni for Father's Day weekend, and it was one of the best hotel experiences we've ever had. From the moment we arrived, every member of the staff went above and beyond to make us feel like royalty. Everyone was genuinely warm and welcoming, and even the valet team was incredibly helpful and made such a positive first impression.
The atmosphere is the perfect blend of luxury and family-friendly. It feels like a five-star resort while still being so welcoming to families with young children. That balance is rare, and the Omni does it perfectly.
The food and drinks were absolutely amazing, and every meal exceeded our expectations. We honestly never wanted to leave the property because everything was so enjoyable.
Our room was beautiful, incredibly comfortable, and the perfect place to relax after a day at the resort. Every detail of our stay made us feel taken care of.
Thank you to the entire Omni team for making our Father's Day weekend so special. We can't wait to come back!
Stunningly, gorgeous, and lush grounds that are exquisitely kept. Flowers everywhere on every trail and immaculate cleanliness. The gym was amazing. Those were the six differentpools. The room was spacious and well pointed with a beautiful bathroom in an outdoor patio on a lawn with Privacy. All of the staff from gardeners to the Market staff were friendly and helpful. Can’t recommend Omni enough we will definitely be back!
Big rooms
Ridiculous size swimming pool, far from the beach, dirty swimming pool water, too many kids, tiny leisure space for such a big hotel
We chose this hotel expecting a relaxing getaway, but unfortunately our stay was disappointing.
Upon arrival, we found waste left in the refrigerator from previous guests. Our room was also missing large bath towels, and we were woken up at 5:00 AM by an alarm that had been left set by a previous guest.
The biggest issue was the noise. Our room overlooked the courtyard, where guests and children were very loud starting around 6:00–7:00 AM each morning. In addition, the neighboring room had multiple dogs that barked and howled frequently throughout the day, making it difficult to relax or enjoy any quiet time in the room.
We reported the issues to the front desk, and while the staff was friendly and said they would look into moving us to another room, we never received an update.
The property itself is beautiful, and the staff we interacted with were courteous. However, based on our experience, I would not recommend this hotel for couples or groups traveling without children who are looking for a quiet, restful vacation. The resort seems to cater more toward families, and the common areas and courtyard can become quite noisy early in the morning. If peace and relaxation are important to you, you may want to consider staying elsewhere or requesting a room in a quieter location away from the courtyard.
I wouldn’t call this a 4 or 5 star hotel, it’s more like a 3. Not worth it. Don’t expect anything better than average.
The guest service experience needs work, some of the staff we encountered seemed miserable and some had bad attitudes.
Pools were ok, we did enjoy the water slides. Food was not good at the pool plus overpriced. They nickel and dime you for EVERYTHING from cabanas, to parking to late check out. The property itself is beautiful—but not all areas. The “suites” building was not renovated and looked dated/worn out. Our room had noticeable carpet stains, a few spiders, dust, and dirt stains on door frames.
The worst part for us was that we booked a family suite. When we arrived at our “suite” it turned out to be two adjacent rooms. Please don’t advertise them as 2 bedroom suites if they’re not that. That’s misleading. Overall the place felt too snooty for the type of vacation stay we wanted. Not worth the $2k we spent on two nights.
We also stayed at Grand Hilton MarBrisa, and it was so much better.
Their pool area was super kid/family friendly. Lots of games and activities around the pool area to keep kids entertained. Staff was kind and attentive. Very laid back vibe and the food was a lot better. Prices were more aligned with poolside food. We had a giant cabana—for free (first come first serve). I would recommend that hotel over Omni for families on vacation. It’s not a 5 star hotel but rooms are clean and much better experience.
If you have children, especially small children, toddlers, etc. Look no further. We have travelled with our toddler and this was by far the best hotel experience we have had. This resort is not just kid friendly, it is child centered. Everything exceeded our expectations, especially on a holiday weekend where we expected long lines and slow service. Everything was fantastic!
I had an issue communicating with staff through the text service provided and a request for towels wasn't fully fulfilled, but even that mishap didn't deter me from wanting to stay there again.
We stayed for one night with our two young toddlers. The room we had requested was not ready when we arrived after our long day at Legoland after 4pm. We eventually were put in another room that did not have the amenities we requested (outdoor space not on a main walkway). Most concerning was when my two toddlers were playing on the floor they discovered carpet pulling up and exposed plywood and dirty nails sticking out which my children touched (photos attached). I let the front desk know, not much concern was shown. Wish I wanted to come back here as the property is beautiful and great for kids but this was not a good experience unfortunately
Best vacation in Carlsbad! Amazing place for families! Traditional feeling, beautiful architecture and grounds, plenty of pools, great service and golf. This is our new destination for Father’s Day vacations moving forward.
Still a great property and resort - and they have recently done some remodeling. Staff is excellent all around.
Things can get pricey…looking at you cocktail lounge
We have been coming to Omni La Costa for over 20 years, and this trip was by far the worst. The pillows were completely flat and provided no support. The AC unit in our room was very loud, making it difficult to sleep. There was a gap in the restroom doors, allowing anyone to peer in and making it very difficult to be private. Upon walking into our room, I noticed a large spider hanging from the ceiling near the window. I killed it before my wife had a chance to see it; otherwise, it would have been a bigger issue. And lastly, many rooms had food plates left outside their doors that required pickup, which was not done in a timely manner. To me, it seemed like the "attention to detail" was not taken into consideration. Sad for such a nice resort.
Location, physical plant, ambiance.
All was good.
We have been coming to Carlsbad annually for about 7 years now. Always staying at Park Hyatt Aviara as we stumbled upon them 7 years ago and really loved it there. We had always seen and heard great things about Omni La Costa, especially it being kid friendly with the pools now that we have 2 kids (age 5 and 2), with this year's trip the cost of Aviara being double Omni La Costa, we figured we would stay with them to check it out.
We were gaming the new AMEX biannual hotel credits, and make 2 separate consecutive bookings for the 22nd-24th and 25th-26th. Upon arrival, the front desk offered us an upgrade from a double room to a junior suite for the second leg of our stay, which we opted not to do as we didn't want move/unpack, and we also liked the location of the double room being close to valet, restaurants, and the pools. The front desk was very flexible in making it work to where if we didn't upgrade that we wouldn't have to move rooms, so we did appreciate that.
After the initial check in process, we found a litany of service issues that kind of surprised me and my wife, especially comparing Omni to our previous stays at the Aviara.
Omni had a promotion going on, kids eat breakfast and lunch free, dinner 50% off, which is quite generous given the drink, entree, side and dessert the kiddos got each time. An additional AMEX perk was that we had a breakfast credit to help cover the adult breakfasts, so all of this was likely around a $125-$150 a day, which is pretty awesome. The first 5 meals we did have a service related issue, which almost got to the point of being comical. A kids chicken strips came out as macaroni and cheese. We ordered a cocktail for 2 that came out in one glass, the server was unaware that it was supposed to be for 2. The biscuits and soyrizo gravy, we asked the server if it was vegetarian, she thought it had meat, so a manager came out and said the soyrizo was vegetarian but thought it had something meat based, so the cook came out to confirm it was all vegetarian, but then told us that biscuits wouldn't be ready for another thirty minutes. Another time we ordered a side of ‘carrots and celery’ only to have carrots come out, the server was puzzled didn’t know carrots were included, only to bring out some piping hot carrots 5 minutes later, which oddly didn’t go with the cold celery and ranch. A big chip in my glass was another instance.
The funniest one, both of our girls went down for a nap, so I offered to go to the lobby/Traza bar to get a beer and a cocktail for my wife. I asked the bartender which drink he liked better, The Bees Knees or the Blue Ridge Flip? He said, “I don’t like any of those drinks, I drink Coors Light.” I mean, who says that when the cocktails are $20 and $22 a piece. I asked for the other bartender to come make the drink, which he was enthusiastic to make the Flip, and it was quite good.
Valet not unlocking the truck doors when a family clearly walking up to need the back doors to get the girls in. Numerous times the staff walking through the door or a hallway the same time as you and not really making room, or waiting aside. I know that sounds a little pretentious but it happened multiple times.
On check out, going over the folio, I asked if the $100 AMEX credit was applied, and the way it was presented didn’t make sense to me. Instead of all of the charges happening and then seeing a $100 credit at the bottom, the $100 credit was broken up to cover 3-4 different charges. On the second leg/folio, we were charged a breakfast when that was supposed to be free which I still need to follow up on.
Would I stay at Omni again, yes, if it was half the cost of Aviara again, but we were quite surprised at the gap in service as it is just a lot of little things that just added up, which I feel could just be teachable moments for staff. The property is beautiful, great pools for the kiddos, room was nice. Just need to up their service game a bit.
Marketplace employee implied my 13 year old son was lying about purchasing a slice of pizza and refused to give him the slice of pizza he ordered.. demanding he show his receipt. I was forced to walk all the way down from our room and show the pending charge on my credit card account.
If you're going to require proof of purchase to get your food, don't make getting a receipt optional when you charge people in the first place.
Amazing common spaces, and wonderful staff.
Our room smelled like mildew. The adjoining casita #121 was particularly bad. We tried to open the doors, but it didn’t clear nor help. We did not care for the scent of all the soaps either. Lavender isnt everyone’s cup of tea.
Great place to take a family trip. We had a memorable time! Great food, several pools and friendly staff. Would highly recommend!
Great rooms, spa, pool for kids and fitness center
It’s was perfect
A great getaway. Kids loved the water slides and kids space called Little Sprout. They also liked their Mc and Cheese.
