Me & my husband enjoyed our stay. The staff were pleasant & attentive. Larissa messaged me daily, wanting to know if I needed any assistance. The location is in the historic district, it was very walkable to shops, restaurants, and museums. The hotel was room was spacious, clean, & quiet. The roof top restaurant was really good & I got espresso daily from the coffee shop downstairs. We would definitely stay here again.

The staff was wonderfully attentive and had great recommendations for us as vegetarians. We had THE BEST vegan tacos! Our suite was large and beautiful and clean. We had breakfast each morning at the rooftop restaurant and the corn pancake was divine. Would highly recommend.

My recent stay at the hotel was already shaping up to be a good one, but Sergio at the rooftop hotel bar (I think it’s called terraza Umbral Bar) is the reason it became truly outstanding. His hospitality elevated the entire experience in a way I’ll remember for a long time.

From the moment we sat down, Sergio was warm, attentive, and genuinely invested in making sure we enjoyed not just our drinks, but our time in the area. He shared thoughtful recommendations about the local scene — places to explore, foods to try, and hidden gems we never would have discovered on our own. It felt less like talking to a bartender and more like chatting with a friend who really knows and loves the region.

His craft behind the bar is exceptional. He made the best tamarind spicy margaritas I’ve ever had, perfectly balanced and full of flavor. What impressed me even more was how open he was to creating drinks outside the standard menu, tailoring them to our preferences with creativity and care. You can tell he takes pride in his work.

One moment that really stood out: we arrived one evening close to closing time, fully expecting to be turned away or rushed. Instead, Sergio welcomed us with the same energy and kindness as if it were the start of his shift. No grumbling, no hesitation — just genuine hospitality. He made sure we were comfortable, well fed, and able to unwind after a long day.

Sergio is the kind of person who transforms a hotel bar from a simple amenity into a memorable part of the trip. His professionalism, warmth, and talent are rare, and he absolutely deserves recognition for the way he elevates the atmosphere of the entire hotel. He is, without question, one of the main reasons I’ll be returning.

Right off the bustling streets, this place feels like a sactuary upon entering. From the professional and accommodating front desk (Felix et al) to the hardworking cleaners scrubbing and polishing the space.

Great location in the historic center. The room was well equipped and the staff was attention and helpful. Will definitely be back.

A wonderful hotel with exceptional staff. We would highly recommend staying here. Its close proximity to the heart of Mexico City, along with easy transport to major tourist attractions such as the Frida Kahlo Museum and the pyramids, makes this hotel a real gem.

Most importantly, the hotel is extremely clean, the rooms are lovely, and the staff are outstanding. No request was ever too much trouble. Manuel, Felix, Victoria, and the lovely waiter in the restaurant upstairs at the pool bar with all of the tattoos, were especially helpful throughout the week we spent at the hotel.

We did have a small issue with the air conditioning in our original room, but the staff handled it immediately by moving us to another room and assisting us with everything we needed.

Honestly, we cannot recommend this hotel highly enough.

Great service, very responsive and accommodating staff

I spent 3 days and truly enjoyed myself. The staff is welcoming and friendly. There is a lovely rooftop restaurant, and the building is historically charming.

This property is truly something special. It’s a 100+ year old monastery turned chic hotel, located in the heart of the beautiful CDMX.

They’ve done an excellent job honoring and preserving some of the unique and special architecture of the building while also updating the accommodations, outfitted in modern and contemporary design.

My room was stunning, with soaring ceilings, huge statement windows, flat screen TVs with sound bars, and even a functioning record player with vinyl records provided.

One of the best parts of the whole hotel though was the service. I can’t say thank you enough to Manuel who provided a friendly smile and warm welcome upon arrival and then showed me to my quarters. Félix was also very helpful at the front desk, managing my room details and even printing some papers for me for work. They made this stay feel like a home away from home and will be a major reason I return to this space.

The Umbral is a great hotel in Centro. It is in a former office building so has a lot of fascinating history and architecture.
They utilize the idea of dark and light very creatively.
The staff are superb! Extraordinarily kind, helpful, and knowledgeable.
