Hotel La Jolla, Curio Collection by Hilton

We have stayed at this hotel a couple of times in the last 2 months. They are slipping. The room this time was only ok. As a Hilton Gold member thought I could extend my checkout until noon. Denied. They can do better.

pros, the hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, the rooms size was very decent, the shampoos, conditioner and lotions are of good quality, its also next door a gas station that has a store that is quite stocked.
cons, the rooms could use some tlc, the cleaning could be better, the pool is small and the bar area by pool is currently under renovation.

Location of the hotel is excellent. It is in close proximity to the beach. The front desk staff members were especially friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Jeff at the front desk for enhancing our experience at the hotel.

I booked through the Amex Hotel Collection and unfortunately had repeated issues getting the benefits that were supposed to come with my reservation.

Before arriving, I was emailed twice offering a paid room upgrade, despite a complimentary upgrade being part of my Amex benefits when available. Upgraded rooms continued to show as available, but at check-in I was told there were none. After quite a bit of back-and-forth the next morning—on my birthday—they eventually moved me, although the new room was so similar I wouldn't really consider it an upgrade.

I was also denied the $100 property credit and was told they could only offer a 1 PM checkout rather than the late checkout benefit advertised through Amex. I was essentially told that because the hotel is busy, I should have called before booking to confirm whether they could actually provide the benefits. If that's the case, I'm not sure why the property participates in the program.

I also had erroneous charges placed on my room. The manager confirmed they would be refunded, and I've now called twice since my stay and been told the same thing. They still have not been credited back.

The gym was another disappointment. It is extremely small—realistically, only about two people can work out comfortably at once. There's one bench, one Precor strength machine and around six treadmills, with virtually no open floor space to stretch or do anything else.

Lastly weird thing was the ceiling int he bathroom were low. I am 5'3" I could raise my arm and touch the ceiling in the shower. I think a taller person would struggle. The pool is small.

The property itself is nice, and the housekeeping staff were especially kind. Most of the employees I interacted with were pleasant as well. Unfortunately, being pleasant doesn't make up for policies and service that don't match what is being advertised.

This was a birthday trip, and spending part of my birthday arguing over benefits I had specifically booked and paid for really put a damper on the experience. As a Hilton Gold member and an Amex Hotel Collection guest, I expected considerably better.

Laila is the sweetest gal!!! I got say quickly and she made sure I got everything I nested. Very kind, super appreciate her :)

This is my go to hotel when I visit San Diego. I enjoy the location, ocean view and really appreciate the friendly staff, especially Laila who always recognizes me and is very welcoming.

Jeff at front desk was a joy to work with, he kept us updated on pool area maintenance and provided recommendations for sightseeing and activities.

Cute beachy hotel! Rooms were very clean. Laila at the coffee bar was super friendly and helpful.

My third stay, third year in a row and ready for next year. By far the nicest in the area. Rooms are update, despite the outdoor appearance because of the age. Resort credit is nice, the rooms are nice and the views above the 4th floor are of the ocean. Closer than it appears in photos. Old sliding glass doors are heavy, clumsy and make lots of noise when sleeping. This year both elevators (only 2) were working which was nice. Not so last 2 years. Overall nice stay. Seem to try hard. Housekeeping on point.

Perfect location in La Jolla, quiet and cozy environment.
Rooms are nice, tidy and comfortable.
The value is actually worth it.
Especially want to mention that all the staff team members are very nice and friendly, Jeff at the front desk is very nice and humorous.
All in all, feel good about the service here.

We have stayed at La Jolla Hotel for a number of times now over the last 5 years and each time was wonderful and even better than the last time. We stayed through a few renovations and this time (July 2026) it seemed everything was complete. The rooms are gorgeous!!! The men working the front desk were always nice and helpful. The Sea and Sky restaurant was delicious for either happy hour or breakfast ( will have to try dinner next time). Laila was a hard worker. She was always the only host/server that took care of all of the customers and she did a great job. I enjoyed the steak and eggs the most. The rooms are luxurious. We even “adopted” a cactus buddy for our length of stay. Such a cute idea. I just left today and can’t wait to come back!!
