Center of city
Hotel is old building rooms are small
Lovely hotel and very comfortable. Friendly staff.
The area around the property is downtown which is frankly unsafe. While there, multiple times, right outside the hotel and on both sides of the street, I was accosted by people who were clearly high and there was one person who was clearly on something, and who became aggressive. He started clocking me and persisted on asking me for money, to the point that I had to forcefully tell him to stop and leave me alone. An altercation happened each time I stepped outside the hotel and onto the street. Although there is a police station nearby, unlike other cities there appears to be no police presence walking or driving in the area, unless there is already an incident, which there was when I arrived. This is the downtown area of Winnipeg and not on the hotel, who, like other businesses in the area, had security guards and extra measures to ensure safety of guests. The hotel felt like a fortress, as did the restaurants and shops I went to in the area. Stating this, as while my clients in Winnipeg suggested I not stay downtown due to safety concerns, I did not need their advice, as I typically like to stay near the vibe and where the people and shops are when I visit a city. Sadly, what I saw of the downtown vibe was only these unfortunate people on crack stumbling along the streets. While other cities have this same problem, there is typically a high police walking presence to ensure public safety. That was not what I saw here, neither during the morning or evening. Very sad, as Winnipeg used to be known as a live music destination, with culture and a vibe. Now, etched in my brain is stay away from the downtown core.
I like the property and its environment.
Some basic facilities like gym n pool were not there.
Location, and cleanliness
I paid a $100 security deposit when I checked into the hotel. After checking out, I received only $83 back without any explanation. Please explain why $17 was withheld. My room was left in good condition, and I did not authorize any additional charges or cause any damage.
If this deduction was made by mistake, I request that the remaining $17 be refunded immediately. I expect a fair explanation and prompt resolution of this issue.
It was a close walk to where the concert was..
