Front desk staff was ok
I loved the fact it was across the street from the music hall. Went to see a concert there. Breakfast was delicious.
The room had no refrigerator in it. There is no parking on the premises. So you had to park in the parking garage at $48 dollars a day, and the hotel gives you $5.00 off pass. $43 dollars a day was an expense I did not plan on paying,
Clean, helpful desk attendants, close to tourist bureau and free city transportation.
Expensive parking- $43/ night
I am genuinely confused and hoping that Hampton Inn sees this and can explain;
The hotel charges $43 per day for parking. I accepted and went to park in the garage, but noticed the maximum daily parking rate posted in front of the garage is $24 per day. I also confirmed this with two garage employees, all the signage in the garage clearly states a $24 maximum daily charge, and the parking ticket itself also says the maximum daily charge is $24. When I went back to front desk and questioned, every front desk employee I spoke with told me parking in the garage was $24 every 12 hours and that it’s cheaper to park thru the hotel than with the garage directly.
?????
I asked them to remove the parking from my room and I’ll take my chances with the ticket in the garage 🙄
For context, we arrived Friday around 4:30 PM and left Monday around 6:00 AM. We parked the car for the weekend and wanted to walk everywhere, so we were not taking the vehicle in and out of the garage.
When I checked out of the hotel, I was charged $129 for the parking on my hotel bill. I asked them to remove as I hadn’t used hotel parking bc just parking in garage was cheaper. Again, employee argued with me that it was not cheaper. I showed her my receipt for $88 I had just paid for the whole weekend.
Crickets.
In the end, I “saved” $40 — enough for two tickets to the Dueling Pianos show (which was a lot of fun), a ticket to the aquarium, or admission to the Black Fedora Murder Mystery show, which was also very enjoyable.
I’m sharing this because I think other guests should be aware of the parking situation before staying. If you are planning to park your car for several days without moving it, the public garage signage clearly advertises a $24 maximum daily rate, which may be a much better option than hotel parking charges. (Again, if u r not taking car in and out)
But to me, the staff was deceitful, and when u think about $40 times the other number of people getting scammed? It adds up.
The hotel stay itself was fine. It’s run down and can use a “face lift”. But, rooms were a nice size. Our room had a fridge and courtyard access which led right to the pool. Helpful on a hot day.
Breakfast was nice to have. Location was good too.
location. front desk staff were friendly and professional
A/C couldn't cope.
No bathroom fan.
Room was expensive, worn out and small.
I used to travel for a living and the breakfast was worse than some cheap hotels I was forced to stay at.
Parking was expensive, $43. for one day.
Location
It was serviceable but showing signs of age. Needs a refresh.
Si
This was a great location for exploring Charleston! The room was spacious and comfortable, and the staff were great.
The place is a little outdated, but fortunately this I feel is reflected in the more reasonable pricing.
Favorable location
Ice machine was out of order
Big room, nice garden,
Nothing
location, room size, beds
The front desk staff wasn't very helpful, we checked out and return to the property 2 hours later, after we realized we forgot a sweater inside the closet, that we need for our long flight. The first response of the front desk agent was " I need you to go on line and fill a claim, and if you stuff is here will be send it to you. I explained to this person that we left the property no long ago and we need our stuff to travel. She made uS wait and after 20' min she said that the housekeeper didn't find anything at our room, and asked again to fill the claim on line. We request to look at our the room ourself, she found the task of opening the room door was very complicated, she claimed to be the manager on duty. Another staff member came to help, she was able to open the room, that was already clean, as nothing was there, she asked the housekeeper, who said that they found our stuff and it was at the housekeeper office. We left the hotel 40' later than planned, and have to rush to the airport to don't miss the flight. All the stress caused for a person who didn't want to leave her chair behind the desk and help a hotel guest. I assumed the the hotel doesn't care of the cost of the shipment to send something that it could be easily solve in 5' if the person who is there to help guests cares a little more.
The front desk was always helpful and pleasant. The room was spacious and clean. Close to local events and shopping.
Stay was too short!
