Only Junior Suites and Executive Rooms can accommodate an extra guest by adding a roll-away bed or a sofa bed. This request is subject to availability and and costs GBP 45 per night. Please note that guests are required to show the credit card used to book the nonrefundable reservation upon check-in. If the credit card owner is not one of the guests, the hotel will require a copy of the credit card owner’s ID and credit card. I really liked the style of the room, which had a lovely traditional English feel. The bed was very comfortable, and the room itself felt cosy and pleasant.
The location was excellent and very convenient, with everything close by, including coffee shops, the High Street, and restaurants. Housekeeping was also good, and I felt safe and secure throughout my stay.
Overall, the location was definitely one of the best things about the hotel.
My room was located between the ground floor and the first floor, so there was no lift access and I had to use the stairs. I had quite a few bags, so I asked the staff for help, and they were very kind and helpful.
The main issue I had was with the deposit. It was taken approximately three weeks ago and has still not been released, although this may be related to the bank. I also noticed that a service charge had been deducted from the deposit.
The receptionist showed me the receipt, but at first I was not sure what the service charge was for. When I asked, she explained that it was similar to a tip for the staff. I am always happy to leave a tip when I choose to, but I did not like that the charge had already been added before I was asked. I would have preferred to be asked first whether I wanted to leave a tip before the receipt was printed and the service charge was included.
Didn’t like much about the hotel, and can’t mention the location because a city hotel is always chosen based on the location you want to be, and a good location for me can be a bad location for a person wanting to be at the opposite end of the city.
Bad smell in the hotel, no facilities expected in a 5 * hotel such as gym or others; the breakfast was quite poor, served in a tiny room and a very steep staircase, and with very little food options. The fruit was served as a mixed salad in a small jar. If you have allergies to any fruit they tell you to peel your own fruit from a basket with a small choice. Breakfast was paid in advance and included, but if you want to have some porridge it comes as extra cost, as for eggs and other choices.
When we arrived in the room, we had some cookies and some fruit offered by the hotel, which was nice. As we didn’t eat them all in the first night, they were immediately taken away the next day. We had to ask for it to be put back, which the staff did.
In general the staff of the hotel and the breakfast staff were nice, and tried to comply with our requests once they were asked. But we needed to ask, because by default, the hotel tries to pretend they are 5 stars but in fact I would not even give them 4 stars.
The location was perfect. The staff was friendly.
