I just returned from an unforgettable stay at Hotel Barchetta Excelsior in Como, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. From the moment we arrived, this brilliant retro hotel captured our hearts with its perfect blend of classic charm and modern comfort.
We were lucky enough to be upgraded to a beautiful lakeview room, and waking up every morning to the stunning panorama of Lake Como right outside our window was pure magic. The room was spacious, elegantly furnished in that timeless style that makes the hotel so special, and the view never got old — whether we were sipping coffee on the balcony or watching the boats and hydrofoils come and go on Piazza Cavour below.
The location is unbeatable: steps from the lakefront, ferry docks, and the historic center, yet peaceful enough to feel like a true escape. The staff were warm and attentive, the breakfast was excellent, and the whole atmosphere felt authentic and welcoming.
Hotel Barchetta Excelsior is a true gem — retro in the best possible way, full of character, and perfectly positioned for exploring Lake Como. I’ll always have the fondest memories of this stay and will definitely be back. Highly, highly recommended!

Pros:

Great location right next to the ferry terminal on the lake. 5 mins walk to Como Lago railway station. Surrounded by great bars and restaurants. Extremely helpful staff. Big rooms, comfortable beds and nice breakfast.

Cons:

The showers are not great (sorry). And €10 for a beer in the bar is a little steep.
