Atmospheric ancient inn in the heart of York
Pros:

Great location in the centre of York. Spooky and atmospheric. Really good breakfast

Cons:

The marketing material sent out before. The menu is a bit basic pub food so I ate elsewhere

A fantastic and unforgettable stay in one of York’s most atmospheric and historic hotels – we absolutely loved it! 👻❤️
Pros:

We absolutely loved the Golden Fleece! The building is full of character and history, and staying somewhere with so much atmosphere made our visit to York really special. The location was fantastic, the staff were lovely and welcoming, and the whole place had such a unique charm. We especially loved the spooky atmosphere and the fact that it felt like we were staying somewhere with a real story to tell.

Cons:

We honestly struggled to find anything we didn’t like. The building is old and full of character, so there are a few quirks that come with staying somewhere historic, but that’s also what makes the Golden Fleece so special.

Pros:

Lovely historic building, very friendly and helpful staff. Room was spotlessly clean, very comfortable and well equipped.

Cons:

I’m being picky but the mattress was very firm.

Fantastic historic inn
Pros:

Historic building in a fantastic central location, literally across the road from The Shambles. Clean, comfortable room, full of character and charm. Good breakfast. Resident ghosts kept to themselves while we were there.

Cons:

Nothing. People should be aware that you are staying above a pub, so there is some noise whilst the pub is open, but if you're out for the evening, or enjoying the live music downstairs yourself, then there's no problem.

Pros:

The location of the golden fleece is perfect! You also get a key so you can come and go as you please you aren't restricted to the pub's opening times. The staff were so lovely, I had requested the "who said romance is dead" package for mine and my husband's 10th wedding anniversary and they made sure everything was perfect with balloons, petals, chocolates, a bottle of fizz, a card from the team and an information book. The room was perfect! Well decorated, clean and stocked with everything you could need. The breakfast was really good too and the morning staff were a ray of sunshine to start the day. I was concerned about the noise of the pub at night with live music and jolly drinkers but from our room on the very top floor we couldn't hear a thing. The bedding was lovely, so soft and cozy and the white sheets were crisp. Sarah had serviced our room and I believe prepared our anniversary package and she did an amazing job so special shout out to her :) check out time was 11am and we are used to a 10am check out so that extra hour was nice.

Cons:

If I was being really picky I would say it's a shame the check in time isn't a little earlier. For the price we paid it would have been nice to have a little more time in the room, we checked in at 3pm which honestly is about right for most hotels and I know they need time to make every room perfect before the next guest so we aren't mad at all, If anything it's just another reflection on how good the place is as we wished we got more time there.

Great place to stay.
Pros:

Great location and easy to find. It was quiet and comfortable. Wish we could have stayed longer than 1 night. It was very clean. The staff were friendly and the breakfast was excellent. We shall return.
