There are posters with the manager's phone number on in many places around the hotel and CCTV. After I contacted the manager about no staff available for breakfast (see below), he messaged me and did apologise, even leaving gifts in our room.
When I messaged about the sockets not working on the morning we checked out, the manager arrived quickly to fix it.
We love the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch Railway. The New Romney Station is opposite the hotel and has a great cafe and interesting exhibition. The railway is fabulous for adults and children of all ages.
The room was ok in itself and we liked the steam train cushion and coasters.
We asked for breakfast on our original booking and on the first evening, we asked the barman to book us in at 9am. We got up and went down to the bar. There was no staff in the hotel at all. Apparently the hotel is owned by one company and the bar and restaurant is run by another! The hotel did not know that there is no kitchen staff until 12noon on some days. When we went back to our room, we noticed an A4 paper pinned to our door. The manager has said that the kitchen staff should have messaged him so he could tell us. I don't think this will happen again to anyone else.
As I say, I did get an apology but I was amazed that this could happen at all. I have diabetes and need to plan my meals and medication times carefully. Luckily, we were able to get breakfast at the RH&D Railway opposite, which was good. When leaving the hotel that morning, we could only exit the hotel down the fire escape at the back. It occurred to us that if we were elderly or disabled this could have been an issue.
Also, if there were to be a fire in the night, who would coordinate an evacuation? I think someone should be on site 24/7 in a hotel and if not, this should be made clear when booking.
The TV did not have an aerial. You have to access with an app eg. Netflix, You Tube etc, so no news or terrestrial channels. Also it had a very erratic signal dropping from 70% to 0% all the time. The TV issue was not dealt with at all, despite messaging the manager more than once about it.
Our room was fairly clean but the stairwell window was covered in cobwebs.
Firstly this is a three star hotel. So I wasn't expecting an amazing hospitality. But they did have a good room for a few nights, its an ok stay. Also breakfast is really well served and nice and warm.
Again this is a three star hotel. So I wasn't expecting much. But I was a little miffed. I payed extra for a separate ensuite bathroom, but there's was no where to put my shower gel or soap in the shower, no towel rack or hook either. Otherwise the staff were friendly and there most of the time.
When I complained I was moved to a different place which was better
Slightly damp, noisy and the TV didn't work
Bed was comfortable
Room was mostly clean
Bathroom light needs cleaning out
Shower head grubby.
Wires and old cabling hanging down from the TV
No signal on the tv
Was told to keep the windows shut (on a very hot day) because of the pigeons
Was told "there are no other rooms available" straight away without even asking so they were clearly expecting complaints.
Noise from the trains were not really an issue but maybe for some.
This was just a short last minute stop over but based on my experience the price was far too high for the quality of stay.
Didn't stay for breakfast which would have been an additional cost.
Niks eigenlijk
Stonk naar mottenballen, kleine kamer. Kruip door , sluip door Hotel, bleek ander te zijn dan geboekt.
Good place to stay and useful location. Food options within walking distance. Breakfast in the pub was great.
Comfy bed and considerate owner popped us into a cooler room which was useful .
Bit more ventilation needed
We loved the live music and a ate night, others may want a more peaceful stay
Dino war super nett und die Kommunikation war perfekt. Er war jederzeit erreichbar und hat sich umgehend gemeldet. Das Appartement war großzügig geschnitten und das große Bett sehr gemütlich.
Ein Fön wäre praktisch gewsen.
Location near to coast
Tiired and needed a refresh
The Breakfast-Lady and the bartender were really nice and caring.
The bedsheets and towels were clean.
The room and furniture have seen better days.
It wasn't what we'd call spotless clean.
The location is good, near the Dungeness train line station, prices are affordable, it was clean and comfortable.
**⭐☆☆☆☆ – Avoid at all costs**
This was one of the worst accommodation experiences I've had.
The room had a strong damp, musty smell from the moment we entered. There were visible signs of damp around the window, the room felt poorly ventilated, and the overall standard was nowhere near what I expected for the price paid. We left after spending around an hour in the room because we simply didn't feel comfortable staying there.
What disappointed me even more was how the complaint was handled. Rather than acknowledging the concerns or taking responsibility, the manager dismissed them, sent what was described as an "independent inspection" that conveniently found nothing wrong, and provided a video of the room that did not show the damp issues I had photographed.
During the dispute, the focus also shifted onto completely unrelated matters, including our daughter, instead of addressing the genuine concerns about the condition of the accommodation. It felt like an attempt to deflect from the real issues rather than resolve them.
I also noticed information relating to a child policy appearing during the complaint process that I do not recall being present when I booked. I've asked Booking.com to review this as part of my complaint.
I initially contacted the hotel directly because I genuinely wanted to resolve the matter amicably before involving Booking.com. Unfortunately, the way my concerns were handled left me with no confidence that they were being taken seriously. The complaint has now been escalated to Booking.com, and I'm considering reporting the condition of the room to the local Environmental Health department and Trading Standards for further investigation.
Based on my experience, I would not stay here again and cannot recommend this property.
Prijs kwaliteit verhouding was prima
Accommodatie iets gedateerd
It was no-frills but very clean, comfortable and good value. Just what I was looking for and I would certainly stay there again.
So friendly and good fun.
