We spent 6 nights at the start of our trip at this excellent hotel. Beautiful rooms, delightful staff and management that cares about your experience.
We returned for our last night and booked a Horizon level room for late check out and lounge access. Management kindly extended our late check out to a later time and use of lounge for our late departure. Our first experience with Shanghai La hotels and will definitely stay again as this brand value their guests.

I'm glad to be back for a 2 night's stay at this fabulous property again after 2 years.
I'm still thankful for the warm and friendly service rendered by most of the staff throughout my stay. I like to enjoy my cold beer while enjoying the view of 101 from my Premier Room 😊.
Nothing to fault actually but really if need to nit-pick, there was an occasion whereby my unfinished drinks and the whole set of cutleries was cleared and removed though the signage indicating dining in progress is still on the table while I'm out for another round of food during breakfast. Can understand the service team is very prompt in clearing and also many guests finished their breakfast and left without flipping the signage to dining done. Small issue 😊.
I noted a tall, thin and bespectacled gentleman in the Lobby while I'm waiting for my car to the airport, I had correctly guessed that the gentleman is the GM as I asked the bell boy later. I would have loved to thank him personally for having a great team that had made my stay a comfortable one as the car had arrived.
Thanks for having me and I hope to be back soon.
We stayed here with my wife for a weekend getaway and, overall, had a very pleasant experience.
One of the highlights of our stay was access to the Horizon Lounge. The service there was attentive, professional, and consistently friendly. However, the canapé selection during the evening offering was somewhat disappointing, as we expected a wider and more refined selection given the hotel's standard. That said, the lounge itself was excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed spending time there.
The main service issue occurred in the Lobby Lounge on Sunday afternoon. My wife and I stopped by for some refreshments, and the service was surprisingly slow. It took approximately 25 minutes for a pot of tea and a Coke to be served. What made this particularly disappointing was that the lounge was not busy at all—there were only four occupied tables, including ours. Such a delay is not what one would expect from a hotel of this caliber.
Despite this shortcoming, we genuinely enjoy staying at Shangri-La properties and continue to appreciate the brand's hospitality. We look forward to returning to our favorite Shangri-La in Bangkok in the future.
This property is an excellent choice because of so many reasons. It's definitely a luxurious hotel with unmatched hospitality. The staff are all professional, kind and helpful if there are any questions or concerns. The breakfast buffet selections are varied and delicious. There is something for everyone including Indian, Chinese, Japanese, American and sweet fruits, juice bar, carving station, and salad selections. The employees are all very accommodating. This is evident in Housekeeping, Engineering and Reception/Concierge/Bell desk. I can say I am delighted to always return to this lovely hotel. It's connected to an upscale mall that has a grocery store and small food court. There's convenient stores, Starbucks within 2 minutes walk or less. I highly recommend this property as everything you need including a good night's rest is guaranteed here.
A very nice hotel that lives up to its name. The room is clean and big and the staff is very welcoming. Food at the Executive Lounge is also very good and so is the morning breakfast at the cafe.
The hotel is in a rather quiet area of the city, which is good but location wise it’s not very convenient. Although it is between 2 MRT lines, it’s about a 10 to 15 mins walk to either stations, hence will need to rely a bit on taxi or Uber to move around.
What could have been better is if the hotel would provide turn down service, given its 5-star rating.
Luckily, we have assigned a room where we can see the 101 tower again.
We found a problem with the flush water button in the washroom afterward and informed that to Beatrice (AFOM). When we returned to the room, the problem was fixed.
We are very greatful to Beatrice for her attentive, efficient and thoughtfulness, during our check-in/out process.
Further more , Henry ,the concierge, was very helpful to explaining the shuttle bus information to us.
Overall ,our stay in Shangri-La Taipei was very relaxing and enjoyable this time.

This hotel may not be a new establishment and has a slightly dated feel, but the service is truly outstanding and exemplary. This is my 3rd time staying in this hotel. The front desk is efficient and very helpful especially Ms Beatrice Chang Chien who helps us to resolve issues with precision and speed.
The concierge team is highly knowledgeable and efficient, managing multiple requests with ease and grace. They are exceptionally reliable and provide a true sense of reassurance and peace of mind. Our special thanks to David, a very young gentleman at the concierge desk.
We also dined at Shang Palace, where the cuisine was exquisite and beautifully executed. Despite the high volume of guests, the service remained attentive, seamless, and exceptionally well managed.
There is also a Shanghai restaurant in the hotel, Shanghai Pavilion, where the service unfortunately fell short of expectations. One middle-aged senior waiter appeared impatient while taking orders and was heard reprimanding a junior colleague quite loudly, which detracted from the overall dining experience. For a restaurant positioned at a high-end level, this standard of service is disappointing.
That said, there were notable bright spots. Natasha from Thailand (an intern) and Dawn Hsu were both warm, attentive, and commendable in their service.
However, when compared to Tien Xiang Lou and the dining experience at The Landis Taipei, the difference in service quality is quite apparent. I am looking forward to staying at this hotel again when I visit Taipei, it feels like home because of the wonderful service across all the departments.
Arriving early at the Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel in Taipei’s Da'an District over a busy Mother’s Day weekend, I was pleased to find my room ready around noon despite the hotel being fully booked. This popular property, with its strong local reputation, successfully balances a sense of established history with attentive service, though its mature character shows in both strengths and areas needing refresh.
Location
Situated at 201 Tun Hwa South Road, Section 2, the hotel occupies a tall building in Da'an District. While not the most modern or tourist-centric area compared to Xinyi District near Taipei 101, it offers convenient access to a nearby shopping center and department store. Transportation is needed for broader sightseeing, but the location feels secure and well-established. High-floor rooms and the Horizon Club lounge provide some of the best city views in Taipei.
Room and Views
The hotel’s height delivers excellent vistas of the city skyline from many rooms, particularly on upper levels. Traditional Chinese decorative elements throughout pay respectful homage to heritage, evoking high-end mainland Chinese hotels in their attention to detail.
Wellness
The standout rooftop pool allows guests to enjoy sweeping city views while swimming—a genuine highlight. Unfortunately, the fitness center and health club were disappointing for a wellness traveler. These facilities feel dated, with maintenance shortfalls evident in noticeable sweat and body odors that made the sauna and steam bath unappealing despite their presence.
Dining
Dining experiences were a high point. The dim sum at Shang Palace was very good, and even when the restaurant was fully booked, staff thoughtfully seated me at the nearby Li Bai Lounge without issue. Breakfast offered impressive diversity and consistent high quality, contributing to an overall satisfying culinary stay.
Service
The service team was very much on top of things—professional, efficient, and accommodating. That said, a pre-communicated special occasion went unacknowledged, which was a minor letdown (understandable given the high occupancy), especially compared to more personalized gestures experienced elsewhere.
Verdict
The Shangri-La Far Eastern offers a satisfactory stay rooted in heritage charm, excellent dining, and memorable views, making it a reliable favorite among locals. I rated it a solid 4.5 stars rather than a full five due to the wellness shortcomings and location considerations.
Lux stay in quieter part of Taipei, reception staff from check in and concierge were consistently so helpful, room was large with nice view, lots of windows and the signature scent through the entire hotel, the lobby decor was eastern, the breakfast was over the top selection and quality compliments to chef it was well done attention to detail. The cake shop downstairs was very nice they make everything each morning, also dined in the 6th floor lounge and was pleasantly surprised that the quality was as good there as the formal restaurants! This was my first stay at Shangri La in many years and they impressed on the level of Mandarin, Four Seasons. If you like the MRT it s about a 10 min walk to the closest station which makes it nice as it is a bit quieter, the gym, sauna was also a nice way to start and end each day, loved the stay and highly recommend Far Eastern Shangri La Taipei
