The location, style, breakfast , staff were absolutely excellent
The air conditioning was noisy and ineffective . Admittedly we stayed during a heatwave but we stayed in another two hotels in the same week which had air-conditioning which worked perfectly . We asked if something could be done after the first night . They either knew there was a problem in room 20 and couldn’t do anything about it or they didn’t believe us. The next two nights were just as bad.
We had the most lovely experience here. From the moment we arrived, until the moment we left, we were met with kindness, love and incredible hospitality. Paola was so helpful with recommendations, Angelo guided us through our stay, and Walter helped me get my phone back after leaving it in an uber… crisis averted. We were blown away by the beautiful space. The breakfast was delicious, and the atmosphere was magical. Will go back as soon as we come back to Porto.
La gentillesse du personnel la localisation la chambre
La salle de bain n’est pas à la hauteur d’un établissement 5 étoiles
From the other reviews of this place it seemed like I was staying at the wrong Torrel palace and in a way I was.
When booking, there was quite a lot of options for rooms and we like a terrace, these were generally in the apartments which were much bigger and only around £60’a night more expensive so we went for that.
When we got there we were told that the apartments were over the road to the main hotel, so no pool, concierge, bar, breakfast in that side, you had to go over the road for everything. We explained that we would never have booked that if we’d known as we wanted to use the outdoor pool, we were told we could go over in our dressing gowns across the street.
I would say the rooms were still nice on this side but not the point, no amenities at all.
Anyway, they did upgrade us to a 2 bed apartment which was huge but there was only 2 of us, so didn’t really need it. The upgraded apartment wasn’t really ready as it wasn’t the cleanest, full up ashtray on the balcony, but grubby in a couple of the bathrooms but that could be forgiven as they weren’t expecting to let it on that day.
We didn’t use the terrace as it was so narrow you had to sit up in one corner by the air con units.
Didn’t use the pool but as it turned out I probably wouldn’t anyway, it was situated right outside the restaurant which anyone from outside could eat in and you would have to walk through it to get to the pool.
Breakfast was ok, not the best or worst.
Staff were friendly enough, just felt like we were excluded from the main hotel being over the road.
All in all, things an expensive stay in Porto, prices on par with the Nomad in Lindon and to be honest the hotel itself is not. Stayed in 2 hotels in Lisbon before and after this trip which were 60% of the cost of this one and they were so much better.
Hotel looks grand, big doors, nice decor but not the wow factor we expected.
The hotel is a truly a luxury experience and its location is hard to beat. Minutes away from everything in the main city. The Hotel is in a revamped palace and they have taken extra effort to conserve some of the heritage elements. The breakfast is lavish and worth relishing. The hotel staff and their hospitality is par excellence.
When we booked, we booked a studio apartment. Just be aware that the studio apartment is across the street from the main hotel and the room we originally booked was nice and spacious but was on the ground floor and right by the street with very little natural light and no chance to keep the window opened. When we expressed our displeasure to the hotel staff they very graciously moved us to a room in the main hotel .
Beautiful tiny hotel centrally located, walkable to most places, very well placed and featured. Excellent team and superb breakfast.
Our trip to Porto was my birthday present from my wife. We went for 4 days and stood at Torel Palace superior suit. The property is a renovated palace clever way renovated. Our room was spacious, comfortable bed, AC performance noise was the lowest we ever experienced in a hotel worldwide. It was of special value to my wife, she has a very noise-sensitive sleep. The room cleaning was perfect, house-keeping delivered free water supply regularly, and were ready to bring us an extra bottle when we wished to.
I read several reviews on this hotel and wish to join other guests in their assessment of the hotel reception and concierge/guest relations team. In fact, they don't have these three positions separately, the whole team does all of them and they do the job amazingly well and obviously having fun doing service to guests. Each one was most friendly and professional. Any request from our side was fulfilled immediately. Reception team helped us a lot to explore Porto and have great time.
When I mentioned I am going to celebrate my birthday, a hotel manager sent me a bottle of the local red wine and amazing chocolate birthday cake.
Breakfast was diverse and very tasty.
We had a great time at Torel and recommend others to repeat our excellent experience!
Here’s a polished review that captures everything you mentioned:
I’d happily stay here again. The location is outstanding—perfect for exploring Porto on foot. The hotel itself is beautiful, with elegant décor and wonderful old-world historical charm that gives it a unique character.
The staff truly made our stay exceptional. They were warm, welcoming, and went above and beyond, especially with our dogs. This is one of the most genuinely dog-friendly hotels we’ve ever stayed in. They provided dog beds, bowls, treats, and toys, and every member of the staff treated our dogs as if they were their own. It made us feel incredibly welcome.
The room was also very comfortable, with excellent beds and high-quality linens that made for a great night’s sleep. If you’re looking for a hotel with charm, an unbeatable location, exceptional service, and a place where both you and your dogs will feel at home, this is it. Highly recommend!
Wonderful experience of this beautiful boutique hotel. The service was exceptional!
Perfect city location.
Very welcoming atmosphere with amazing staff hotel and dining room experience.
The level of service was exceptional.
Rooms were very unique and roomy and in excellent condition, clean and an excellent value. Very inviting environment and quiet at night. The amenities were 5 star all the way.
I have absolutely no complaints. This place was fantastic. We went here to get pampered. It was a splurge and totally worth it. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed. Everyone there did their best to make sure we were having a great time. The breakfast buffet is the best. The rooms are large and beds are very comfy. It is situated in the heart of Porto, very well located, while also being quiet and secluded at the same time. The hotel is well appointed and immaculate. Can't recommend more
This was an amazing hotel. So beautiful and luxurious. It was the best breakfast I have ever had. The staff was incredible, doing anything they could to make your experience special. We even had trouble with transportation, and within minutes they had solved it for us. Recommend highly!
Good location. Able to walk easily to the main areas. Nice clean room. Staff excellent offering friendly efficient service. Looked after our car very well.
This is a small city centre hotel so it lacks facilities. In particular there is no where to sit outside, no pool area so it is quite limited and only suitable for a short stay.
Bâtiment incroyable, situation géographique idéale. Personnel gentil et bienveillant. Le petit déjeuner est magnifique!!
Quelques soucis d entretien…
great room, helpfull staff. good location
michelin dinner but relatively medium breakfast
