First time to stay in this classic hotel not only with the long history but the architecture build to be the crown jewel in the center point in Ha Noi. We family during this Summer vacation in June 2026 really enjoyed the stay and experience a very special treatment from all the staffs of the hotel particularly Mr. Steven Duc Trung. This memorable accommodation experience will make us remember for a long time
I stayed at the Metropole hotel for 8 days the first week of June. I loved this hotel. It has an old world style and the vibe was posh, serene and French. All the staff greeted in French. I arrived in the early afternoon by Grab from the airport. The bellhops removed my luggage from the car and then delivered it to my room without being asked. I was shown to the desk where I was told I was being upgraded from a Premier room to a Grand Premier room with a Butler and Lounge access (due to using Sapphire Reserve Edit benefits). I was escorted to the 7th floor to complete the check in process privately. On the way the various restaurants, business center, pool, etc. were pointed out. As I was completing check in, I was offered champagne and my Edit benefits were thoroughly explained to me. All were honored without being asked. My room was on the 7th floor just down the hall from the lounge.
The Grand Premium Room had a clawfoot tub, separate large walk in shower, two sinks, bathroom scale and a separate toilet room. The bathroom sink and tub area was partially open to the bedroom, with curtains that could be drawn. The toilet was secluded in a separate room and the shower was blocked from the bedroom by a wall. Towels were large and high quality. Soaps, lotions etc. were also high quality. Real orchids adorned the bathroom.
There was a little alcove/room off the bedroom which had a recessed counter area with kettle, Nespresso, fridge etc. During the tour of my room when I arrived they assured me the water was drinkable from the tap, although they provided 4 large bottles of water each day and you could request more. I did not drink the tap water but did eat the fresh vegetables without issue.
There was a welcome gift of fruit and chocolates in my room upon arrival. An additional something (madeleines, macaroons etc.) was provided at turndown.
The lounge offered breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea from 3-4:30 p.m. and then appetizers and cocktails from 5-7. The afternoon tea offered everything you would get if you went to the restaurant for afternoon tea. They had table service for the tea/drinks and then a buffet for the food items. Everything from fruit, scones, tea sandwiches, pastries and cakes. The food was very high quality. In the evening, again table service for drinks, and a buffet with hot items like small bites of high quality steak, smoked salmon, cheese, crackers, fruit, cakes mini quiches etc.
I made several requests to the butler. Most were carried out well. I requested a second luggage rack, additional towels each day, particular tea/coffee, and additional water. Except for the additional towels one day my preferences were noted and the items requested were supplied each day.
Because free breakfast was included in my Edit benefits, I ate the full buffet in the Le Club Bar each morning. Breakfast opened at 6 p.m. and was never crowded no matter what time I ate. Most days they remembered my room number and our coffee/tea requests when we came in. There is an egg station, fruit, western and Asian offerings. Because of the French roots of the hotel, there were French pastries/bread. All food was very high quality.
The pool was never crowded. You were greeted and then seated upon arrival by an attendant, who set up your chaise and brought you ice water and sometimes a small snack. Children were welcome, but it was a serene environment.
I chose the hotel partially because it was walkable to old town etc. This became irrelevant because Grabs were about 1 dollar anywhere and walking was too hot and hazardous.
Although overall service was very good, there were a few misses. The first day I was greeted by name but this tapered off and only happened a few other times in 8 days. The butler was textable and very responsive. I did request additional towels one day that were not provided. I also requested a reservation in one of the hotel restaurants and when we arrived we were informed there was no such reservation. He showed me the list of reservations and said, “See you are not on the list.” I pulled up the text where the butler confirmed the reservation had been made and the host nodded, looked around the mostly empty restaurant (it was 75% empty) and asked us to wait a minute. He then came back and showed us to a table. I thought this was bad form. Obviously, someone at the hotel, either on the restaurant staff or the butler had made an error. They made me feel like it was my error, and there was easily room for us. Even when they saw they had no record of the reservation he should have just shown us to a table since the restaurant was mostly empty, and I would have never known a mistake was made. The service the rest of the night was great and the food was very good.
I would not hesitate to stay here again. I did the complimentary history tour which was also great and eye opening for an American. No other hotel in our trip to Vietnam compared to the Metropole.
Perfect location, atmosphere and service.
The room was very comfortable and the food very tasty.
I would like to emphasize the professionalism and amazing service from Mr. Steven.
We are definitely will be back … 🙏
Always like the top service you get staying at the Sofitel. All staff very happy to assist us with everything.
Nothing
This Sofitel Legend hotel certainly lives up to its standard and beyond. The room was absolutely amazing, as were the staff and Majordome (shout out to An). We had Club Lounge access and it was a blessed respite from the heat of the day to be able to come back to the hotel and rest with afternoon tea and cocktail hour. Certainly brought down the heart rate. The service staff (in particular Minh and Tommy Linh) were fabulous, very friendly, efficient and just wonderful hosts. This hotel is beautiful, with a very interesting historical tour of the premises (and bunker). Definitely worth a revisit. Also a big thank you to Chief Concierge Da/Za for her hospitality too.

I had the most incredible stay at Sofitel in Hanoi, located in the heart of the city, it was an incredibly beautiful property filled with history!
Sofitel also has exceptional service, with all the staff being very kind and especially Mr Steven from the Majordome team who was incredibly kind and helpful with everything and took great care of us during our stay at Sofitel!! (Also thanks to him for the best banh mi recommendations ever!)
This was my third stay at the Metropole and it’s always just amazing. From the people to the property to the rooms it’s always top notch in every way. My wife and I went for a couples trip and I could not recommend it more. We were picked up at the airport by the Metropole’s amazing staff, ferried to the hotel in a lovely large car and brought to our incredible room relaxed and in extreme comfort. The breakfast is amazing, the restaurants are absolutely some of the best in Vietnam, the bars are superb, and the pool is old school luxury. I can’t complain about anything. We will return again and will continue to come back to this hotel.
The Sofitel Metropole is a grand beacon in the heart of Hanoi. The hotel has a rich history which we were privileged to witness during a tour of the war bunkers built underneath the hotel during the Vietnam War.
In our travels we stayed many magnificent hotels, but the staff at the Sofitel Metropole really made a difference with set it apart from all the others. Steven our butler could not have been more accommodating, helpful and friendly. The warmth that the staff showed us managed to make the grand hotel feel almost intimate, like a home away from home.
Buffet breakfast was wonderful, their signature pho live station every morning and fresh mangoes were our favourite!
Bella and the live jazz band was the absolute highlight of our stay.
Sofitel Metropole is one of many luxury hotels in the world, but the exceptional staff is what will make us choose it all over again.
Everything, the facilities, the staff, the food were incredible. The staff at LE BEAULIEU were fantastic and made the experience one we will never forget!! We are excited to come back and stay again!
Nothing, it was perfect
Our stay at the Sofitel Metropole Hanoi was nothing short of exceptional. The property itself is stunning — a perfect blend of historic charm and refined luxury — but what truly made our experience unforgettable was the incredible service.
A very special thank you to Steven, whose attentiveness and impeccable attention to detail elevated our stay beyond expectations. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and he anticipated our needs with such professionalism and genuine care. His thoughtful touches and warm hospitality made us feel truly valued and incredibly well looked after throughout our visit.
The dining, ambience, and overall experience were flawless. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Hanoi and looking for a truly luxurious and memorable experience.
The Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi is one of those rare hotels where history is not merely decoration — it is the atmosphere itself. The Heritage Wing, the colonial architecture, the sense of a place that has witnessed a century of the world passing through: all of this is genuine and irreplaceable. In different circumstances, this would be a five-star review without hesitation.
The circumstances, however, were these.
Loud roadworks directly beneath my room began at 2 AM. Earplugs did not help. No prior warning had been given at check-in. A call to reception at 4 AM was met with a wait that felt very long before a room change was finally arranged. At 9:25 AM, a housekeeper entered without knocking and switched on the full lights — ending what little sleep remained. One of the more unpleasant nights of my travels.
The original room had a persistent smell consistent with mold or a contaminated air conditioning unit — something other guests have also noted in reviews. The corridors featured dehumidifiers with red warning lights indicating they were full and unattended. Small details, but telling ones in a hotel of this price and reputation.
Breakfast was a missed opportunity. Two cheese varieties and a baguette with the texture of styrofoam, no à la carte menu, inconsistent service — in a hotel billing itself as a French colonial landmark, this falls short. As a Platinum member, there was no welcome gesture upon arrival — not a note, not a small amenity. A basic courtesy that any mid-range property would extend automatically.
The initial management response to my complaint was polite but thin: a USD 100 credit offered to a guest who had already announced his departure.
This would have been a one-star review.
Then Ms. My Nguyen, Duty Manager, stepped in. With genuine warmth, real effort, and no small amount of personal grace, she turned the situation entirely around — offering a complimentary night, an upgrade to a three-room suite in the Heritage Wing, and a personal invitation to tea. She is exactly the kind of person that makes a legendary hotel live up to its name.
Five stars for the hotel it can be. One star for the night it delivered. Four stars feels honest — and hopeful.
We spent 2 nights there, we were overall amazed by the level of hospitality.
Location is prime, room is top cleaned.
Accor loyalty is well awarded.
Check-in is excellent especially, in the lounge.
Front-office very reactive and helpfull.
Personnel are kind and smiling, spoke a good English, I liked talking to the door guys when I went out to smoke..
Pool is nice and always personnel tried to bring water and some snack while at the pool.
Breakfast is perfect with good choice of quality food.
Lounge choice of food and drinks is good.
We enjoyed the hotel historic tour, and were surprised to learn how the hotel contributed at major historic events and hosted many famous guests.
The management are doing an excellent job, keeping high quality standards.
Special thanks to Ms. Linh Chi for her kindness and for being careful aand listening to customer concerns.
We hope to come to visit you again, with the next opportunity.
