Location
Super friendly and cooperative staff
It is the best hotel in Hanoi. Period. Amazing just amazing.
Central location in French Quarter. Colonial style. A favourite with celebrities.
The best hotel experience of my life. Out of hundreds of hotels and thousands of room nights, this was the best.
We stayed twice: first in the Opera Wing, then returned to the Heritage Wing. I booked the entry-level room in each wing, but with ALL Platinum status this gave us lounge access and, critically, butler service. It was our butlers, Daphne and Chris, who made this stay unlike any hotel experience I have ever had. They set a bar so high that I genuinely do not believe it could be beaten.
From check-in to check-out and beyond, the butler service was impeccable. Anything we wanted to know was answered quickly; anything we needed was made to happen. We met several times a day for a catch-up and to discuss our Vietnam plans, and the advice was always practical, personal and thoughtful. I have never known service like this, or even a quarter of this, at any hotel before. If you can, ensure that your rate or status includes lounge access, because for us that was what made the stay unforgettable.
Beyond Daphne and Chris, everyone we met was exemplary. I will single out Tommy and Kevin in the Opera Lounge: Kevin remembered my drink on the second night even when I had forgotten it myself. But I could just as easily mention the staff at the restaurants, bars, gym (incredible gym by the way, best ever hotel gym), doormen, housekeeping staff and everyone else we encountered. Every single person greeted us warmly and seemed genuinely happy in their work. There was not a crack in the service level anywhere. It was extraordinary.
The hotel is really two hotels in one: the historic Heritage Wing and the newer Opera Wing, each with separate lounge and breakfast facilities. Having experienced perfection in Opera, we returned to try Heritage. Heritage is considered the more historic and formal experience, and it is certainly beautiful, but I would be very happy in either wing next time. My husband’s favourite food is Vietnamese vegan pho, and he said the breakfast pho in Opera was the best he had ever had. He also said the whole hotel experience was the best of his life “and it’s not even close.” Both wings gave us 24/7 butler access via WhatsApp, and we especially enjoyed the complimentary baths they would prepare for us at any time.
What took the stay to another level was how personal it became. Daphne and Chris remembered details, anticipated what we might need, gave us advice that felt genuinely human rather than scripted, and on our return wrote us heartfelt welcome notes that went far beyond corporate hospitality language, together with an incredibly meaningful personalised welcome gift. They have cemented themselves as a huge part of our positive memories of Hanoi.
Top tip: consider the ALL Voyager card - the benefits helped dramatically reduce the cost of staying here, and the thirty status nights that come with it get you halfway to Platinum too.
I do not know what else to tell you. Swallow hard, pay the money, and let this hotel give you one of the great travel memories of your life. Ours will last forever.
We spent two nights at the Metropole hotel. Our last day we ate lunch at the spice Galley restaurant. We had a really nice experience, I had beef pho and the pork belly which were delicious. We were treated by the restaurant manager,Ngoc, with Lotus tea. She explained to us the way they make the lotus tea. Apparently they take the green teas and place them inside the lotus flower for one day and then repeat
This process creates the complex fragrances and flavors of the lotus tea.
The buffet includes sashimi tuna and fresh fruit
For dessert, I had flan and yogurt with fermented rice
The decor is French inspired and not crowded
Overall, a wonderful meal with very attentive staff for about 100 USD for 2 diners
Hanoi is truly a magical & charming city ..
Staying at this iconic Hotel for 4 nights was truly captivating. Its greatest allure is how it reflects Hanoi’s story.
That is, from the colonial era through the war years to its cosmopolitan present.
This magnificent Hotel has a prime location in the 19th- century French Quarter, steps from Hoan Kiem Lake.
The Hotel has two distinctive wings – original early 20th-century building and the contemporary wing.
We stayed in the former Heritage Wing, embracing a refined French-Indochine aesthetic and contemporary comforts.
There is a sense that many staff members have been at the Hotel for decades. They know exactly what they are doing which lends a welcome warmth!
We enjoyed an assortment of culinary delights in the Hotel, exceptional and refined collection of dining & bar venues.
We thoroughly enjoyed the immersive complimentary evening tour of the hotel’s wartime bunker, most illuminating.
This notable Hotel has witnessed over a century of historic events & distinguished guests and have lived to tell the tale!
It certainly is a ‘legend’ Hotel .. come and witness it for yourself!
First time to stay in this classic hotel not only with the long history but the architecture build to be the crown jewel in the center point in Ha Noi. We family during this Summer vacation in June 2026 really enjoyed the stay and experience a very special treatment from all the staffs of the hotel particularly Mr. Steven Duc Trung. This memorable accommodation experience will make us remember for a long time
I stayed at the Metropole hotel for 8 days the first week of June. I loved this hotel. It has an old world style and the vibe was posh, serene and French. All the staff greeted in French. I arrived in the early afternoon by Grab from the airport. The bellhops removed my luggage from the car and then delivered it to my room without being asked. I was shown to the desk where I was told I was being upgraded from a Premier room to a Grand Premier room with a Butler and Lounge access (due to using Sapphire Reserve Edit benefits). I was escorted to the 7th floor to complete the check in process privately. On the way the various restaurants, business center, pool, etc. were pointed out. As I was completing check in, I was offered champagne and my Edit benefits were thoroughly explained to me. All were honored without being asked. My room was on the 7th floor just down the hall from the lounge.
The Grand Premium Room had a clawfoot tub, separate large walk in shower, two sinks, bathroom scale and a separate toilet room. The bathroom sink and tub area was partially open to the bedroom, with curtains that could be drawn. The toilet was secluded in a separate room and the shower was blocked from the bedroom by a wall. Towels were large and high quality. Soaps, lotions etc. were also high quality. Real orchids adorned the bathroom.
There was a little alcove/room off the bedroom which had a recessed counter area with kettle, Nespresso, fridge etc. During the tour of my room when I arrived they assured me the water was drinkable from the tap, although they provided 4 large bottles of water each day and you could request more. I did not drink the tap water but did eat the fresh vegetables without issue.
There was a welcome gift of fruit and chocolates in my room upon arrival. An additional something (madeleines, macaroons etc.) was provided at turndown.
The lounge offered breakfast in the morning, afternoon tea from 3-4:30 p.m. and then appetizers and cocktails from 5-7. The afternoon tea offered everything you would get if you went to the restaurant for afternoon tea. They had table service for the tea/drinks and then a buffet for the food items. Everything from fruit, scones, tea sandwiches, pastries and cakes. The food was very high quality. In the evening, again table service for drinks, and a buffet with hot items like small bites of high quality steak, smoked salmon, cheese, crackers, fruit, cakes mini quiches etc.
I made several requests to the butler. Most were carried out well. I requested a second luggage rack, additional towels each day, particular tea/coffee, and additional water. Except for the additional towels one day my preferences were noted and the items requested were supplied each day.
Because free breakfast was included in my Edit benefits, I ate the full buffet in the Le Club Bar each morning. Breakfast opened at 6 p.m. and was never crowded no matter what time I ate. Most days they remembered my room number and our coffee/tea requests when we came in. There is an egg station, fruit, western and Asian offerings. Because of the French roots of the hotel, there were French pastries/bread. All food was very high quality.
The pool was never crowded. You were greeted and then seated upon arrival by an attendant, who set up your chaise and brought you ice water and sometimes a small snack. Children were welcome, but it was a serene environment.
I chose the hotel partially because it was walkable to old town etc. This became irrelevant because Grabs were about 1 dollar anywhere and walking was too hot and hazardous.
Although overall service was very good, there were a few misses. The first day I was greeted by name but this tapered off and only happened a few other times in 8 days. The butler was textable and very responsive. I did request additional towels one day that were not provided. I also requested a reservation in one of the hotel restaurants and when we arrived we were informed there was no such reservation. He showed me the list of reservations and said, “See you are not on the list.” I pulled up the text where the butler confirmed the reservation had been made and the host nodded, looked around the mostly empty restaurant (it was 75% empty) and asked us to wait a minute. He then came back and showed us to a table. I thought this was bad form. Obviously, someone at the hotel, either on the restaurant staff or the butler had made an error. They made me feel like it was my error, and there was easily room for us. Even when they saw they had no record of the reservation he should have just shown us to a table since the restaurant was mostly empty, and I would have never known a mistake was made. The service the rest of the night was great and the food was very good.
I would not hesitate to stay here again. I did the complimentary history tour which was also great and eye opening for an American. No other hotel in our trip to Vietnam compared to the Metropole.
Perfect location, atmosphere and service.
The room was very comfortable and the food very tasty.
I would like to emphasize the professionalism and amazing service from Mr. Steven.
We are definitely will be back … 🙏
Always like the top service you get staying at the Sofitel. All staff very happy to assist us with everything.
Nothing
This Sofitel Legend hotel certainly lives up to its standard and beyond. The room was absolutely amazing, as were the staff and Majordome (shout out to An). We had Club Lounge access and it was a blessed respite from the heat of the day to be able to come back to the hotel and rest with afternoon tea and cocktail hour. Certainly brought down the heart rate. The service staff (in particular Minh and Tommy Linh) were fabulous, very friendly, efficient and just wonderful hosts. This hotel is beautiful, with a very interesting historical tour of the premises (and bunker). Definitely worth a revisit. Also a big thank you to Chief Concierge Da/Za for her hospitality too.
