Clean, quiet, great location and really helpful and friendly staff.
Nothing really. It was great and my new favorite in Chicago.
Thompson Chicago is my go-to hotel whenever I travel to Chicago for business, which is about 3-4 times a year. The location is perfect, the rooms are always clean, modern, and comfortable, and the staff consistently provides outstanding service. I always feel welcomed, and the experience is consistently excellent from check-in to check-out. I look forward to staying here every time I’m in Chicago. Highly recommend!
Only thing this Hotel has going for it is the location.
There is a horrible smell in the lobby. It did not go away for six days that we visited. We tried to upgrade our room, but my mom‘s room was actually nicer who did not upgrade. She had a view of the lake. Our upgrade had a view of the two parking lots across the street. We were given two towels, no washcloths. They took the bathrobe after the first day when it hadbeen used and did not replace. They give you Dixie cups for the coffee, which was not good. There are also not sheets on the bed. Just the duvet and pillows are very uncomfortable. This is a very tired hotel that is in need of a refresh.
This was my third time staying at this hotel and once again really enjoyed my stay here. It's in a great part of Chicago in my opinion and have kind of made it my go to hotel when I'm in the city I use to live in and this property makes me feel like I'm "home".
Upon arrival the front desk people were super nice and accommodating to my noise sensitivity issues. I always say the front desk people can make or break how you feel about a hotel going into and this one started off quite well so thank you to the front desk staff.
The hotel is just what I remembered it being. Yes it might show a little age but nothing so bad that it tarnishes a stay. The room I had was spacious and well appointed. It even had a little couch in it if you don't want to just lay on the bed. It may have been a little on the darker side but that doesn't bother me. It was a nice room to come back to after a long shoot day. And it has a really nice shower.
I did have breakfast here and thought it was pretty good. I'm a small breakfast eater and they had just what I needed. The menu had all your basic breakfast food fare so there is something for everyone. They serve breakfast in an atrium since the restaurant attached to the hotel isn't open for breakfast. It is very convenient to have Tavern On Rush attached to the hotel for dinner or just drinks. I didn't go there but it's very lively and seemed busy every time I passed it. There are a lot of other restaurants in walking distance and of course being in the city as a whole you can't say there is no where to eat.
Another thing I really like about this hotel is that it's close to Lake Michigan and the walking/running/biking path. Whether you are athletic or not, it's nice to walk over there at the end of the day or start of the day to rev up your engines or decompress. Plus a lot of good views of the city can be had for the socials. Even the hotel is social picture friendly or just like to capture one's stay.
Overall I would for sure stay here again and look forward to next time I'm in Chicago. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Staff went above and beyond to accommodate us during our stay. Beautiful corner room and extended our check out time. Locations is fantastic lively restaurants and shops just steps outside the front doors . Will definitely stay with the Thompson again when I sing Chicago
Absolutely amazing remembered me after one time, very attentive
Great location lively restaurants right outside the hotel and a great pancake spot across the street. Rooms are quiet . Staff is friendly and accommodating.
Nothing
I was a little disappointed. It's a nice hotel but it fell short in a few ways. First, despite my profile saying I preferred a quiet room far from the elevator, we were initially placed in a high-floor room with a view, but abutting the elevator shaft. That doesn't really work for me so we were moved to a low-floor room on the opposite side, with much less of a view -- but away from the elevator. The walls and doors are thin, though, and there was still quite a bit of noise coming from the hall. The room itself was nice, but there was a problem with the hot water one day we were there. One of our fresh towels was stained. And finally, on our last morning we needed to leave in a hurry and it took the otherwise excellent kitchen nearly 20 minutes to toast a bagel. Also, the valet parking fee is insane at $80, I found parking for $20 half a block away, and $40 across the street. Great location though, really easy access to everything and tons of stuff going on in the immediate vicinity. And I loved the decor of the hotel. So, on the whole, not a bad experience but if I were to return to Chicago I'd probably give another hotel a try.
Great service at front desk from Ahmad
I can’t thank Ahmad, Verdell, and Lily for the warm welcome that we received when we arrived. Please continue to have individuals who care and are willing to help us with whatever we need. Way to go team! Team work makes the dream work!

This was my 1st time at this property & it was amazing! Staff was lovely & super helpful, beautiful room and 10/10 for location! I was able to walk everywhere, including the lake! I will certainly be staying here in the future.
Ahmad was extremely helpful in getting me checked in quickly so I could go about my day. Professional, friendly, couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Perfect location and accommodation for a stay in Chicago. Ahmad checked me in and was a welcoming, informative presence. I will definitely stay at Thompson Chicago Hyatt again.
Great experience & team working there! Shoutout to Myron, Ahmad, Natalie and Verdell!
We chose the Thompson Chicago.
From the moment we arrived, the staff set the tone for the entire stay. Every single person we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind.
Our lake view king room was absolutely stunning. Waking up to those views made every morning feel like a special occasion!
The location is truly unbeatable. Oak Street Beach is right there, the shopping along Michigan Avenue is steps away, and the number of incredible.
We are so grateful we chose the Thompson for our anniversary. We will absolutely be back! 🥂
Had a great but brief stay at the Thompson this week. Was upgraded to a skyline suite with an amazing view and balcony space. Unfortunately I was only able to spend a little time at the hotel but look forward to returning. Ody at the front desk was wonderful as was Ivan, my waiter at the restaurant for breakfast. Great location and staff, I’ve always enjoyed my stays here. Thanks!
Had a wonderful stay here. The hotel is centrally located in the Gold Cost neighborhood. Friendly staff and clean rooms. Ahmad at reception was great.
