The hotel was a 10 minute drive to downtown Boise. Excellent location and staff.
The only minor thing was the pool room was so hot and the water warm. The bedding also was stained so we removed the cover and slept with the sheet.
I booked a two-night stay over graduation weekend through my premium travel rewards card more than two months in advance. After our flight was delayed, we arrived at the hotel around 1 a.m., exhausted and expecting to check into the room we had specifically reserved well ahead of a busy weekend.
Instead, the front desk agent told us we had to wait because she had started the nightly “audit” and the system was unavailable. About 15 minutes later, we were informed that the hotel was fully booked and that no rooms were available for us. We were also incorrectly told that because we had booked through “Booking.com” there was no guarantee of a room — which wasn’t even true, since the reservation was made through my travel rewards program.
I fully expect management to respond by blaming the third-party booking process, the travel portal, or the delayed arrival. But none of those explanations change the basic issue: we had a confirmed reservation for a prepaid two-night stay booked months in advance during a known high-demand weekend. If a hotel can simply give away your room because you arrive late — especially when flights are delayed — then calling it a “reservation” is misleading. What exactly was reserved?
What made this especially frustrating was the lack of ownership or meaningful solution. After roughly 30 more minutes of the hotel and my credit card company trying to figure out where to send us so they can keep the money we gave them, it was nearly 2 a.m. and my family was exhausted. We ultimately had to wake up relatives in the area and sleep on their floor for the night.
I understand that overbookings and operational mistakes can happen. What matters is how a hotel handles them. In this case, there was no room, no real accountability, and no reasonable recovery effort for guests arriving in the middle of the night with a valid confirmation. That is not the experience anyone should expect when booking a stay months in advance.
