All seemed nice on entering reception but for size of hotel bar area was too small and when we had breakfast on the Sunday morning(as the hotel was very busy on the Saturday night) breakfast was hopeless. It seemed no one was checking if things were running out ie. Bread, croissants, fresh fruit, and even cups and coffee from machine was limited in choices. No fridges in rooms. No air con (although fan was provided) . Rooms could do with a make over and that was in the newer side of the hotel.
Terrible place can't extend your stay and they take an extra 50 on arrival for what ?
The bed was comfortable and the food was quite nice in the restaurant.
My partner and I booked a mid‑week date night at Manor of Groves and it turned out to be one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve had locally. The grounds are beautiful, but don’t be fooled — the hotel itself is in shocking condition.
The moment you step inside, everything feels neglected. Worn, stained carpets, filthy paintwork, broken fixtures, and a general sense that the place hasn’t been properly maintained in years. Our room was even worse. The window couldn’t be opened because the handle was missing, on a hot and humid day with no air‑con. The “solution” was a bent, barely functioning fan. The curtains stank, the curtain pole was hanging off the wall, and the chair had a broken leg.
We asked to be moved and were told someone would fix the window — nobody ever came. We asked again and were told the hotel was fully booked, yet I was able to book another room online for the same night. Completely unacceptable.
The bar was a joke. No staff anywhere, and when we finally found the barman, he was sitting watching football with his back to the bar. He reluctantly served us and went straight back to the match.
Dinner was average at best, exactly what you’d expect from a tired 3‑star hotel. The restaurant staff were pleasant, but that’s the only positive.
The grounds are lovely, but the hotel is rundown, poorly managed, and nowhere near worth the money. Save yourself the disappointment and look elsewhere.
We had a Buyagift voucher for Dinner, Bed and Breakfast plus an additional voucher for Afternoon Tea. We also booked a round of golf. Initially it wasn’t possible to get lunch before we played golf but we did manage to get a couple of sausage rolls thanks to the duty manager.
The dinner was very good and the room very clean and spacious.
We used the swimming pool on the following morning which was nice but some facilities such as the sauna and hot tub were out of order.
The afternoon tea was typical of others that we have had and was very nice.
Service from the staff was very good throughout so thank you everyone.
Excellent hotel, very helpful & pleasant staff as always when we have stayed
Only disappointment was jacuzzi was out of order again
I
We had a pleasant stay. Manor of Groves is a large estate with golf course large car park, swimming pool. Outside area to sit. The room was fine - WiFi good enough, bath and bathroom very nice, kettle- tea bags etc, TV with freeview channels. We did not have breakfast or any meals although did enjoy a drink outside. We walked to a local Indian - Chandinis which was good. As it was a heatwave we enjoyed use of the swimming pool. There are some nice walks in the area.

My friend and I booked a stay at this hotel as a Christmas gift to each other and to also celebrate my birthday. It was to be a relaxing spa break away from home and time for us to catch up and unwind. We had been previously and enjoyed our stay so thought we would have the same experience. We were wrong!!
On arrival we were greeted by a friendly receptionist who gave us our room key and sent on us our way. We went to our room, which was ok; however, the remote control was filthy which makes you think, what else has not been cleaned! We got ourselves ready to use the spa and went to the spa reception. Once there we were told it was family hour which meant the pool was busy with children having lessons and playing in the pool. This was not great news but understandable so we decided to use the other facilities until the pool was free (as these are not suitable for kids). When we went to use the sauna it did not turn on so we went to use the jacuzzi instead thinking we may need to ask for assistance for the sauna. When walking into the pool area the poolside showers had been demolished with piles of rubble, etc on show. We then went to go to the jacuzzi and found the walkway was blocked. When going around the poolside to get to it from the other side we noticed there was a sign to say it was closed and all of the water had been drained out. We went to the spa reception and asked about the sauna and jacuzzi and they said they were out of action. This should have been stated when we entered the hotel, let alone when we entered the spa reception.
We decided to make the most of it and use the steam room. We then braved to pool with the children. I have children so totally understand they get very excitable and can be noisy; however, this was something else. Most of parents were non existent and were laying in the garden sunning themselves whilst their kids threw each other and other objects into the pool. They also had water guns which they used and struck my friend on the side of the head. No parent said anything and I had to speak to the child to tell them not to do it again. Some of the parents were in the pool but were just chatting to each other and one of the swimming instructors had to pause their lesson to speak to the boys being silly and dangerous at the poolside. The parents just laughed!!! There should be staff monitoring these sessions as this is not acceptable! Some of the boys were also being silly and going in and out of the steam room, so we had no where to go to rest and relax.
I then spotted a plaster on the ground of the poolside. This is not unusual but when we returned the next morning it was still there! They had obviously not cleaned it at all!!
The next morning we decided to make the most of the quiet and use the steam room and pool. We entered the pool at 10:15; however, less than an hour later we were told we had to get out as the chlorine levels were not right. They then put up a sign to say the pool and steam room was closed for the day. So a nice spa weekend with no spa! What a waste of our time and money.
We had no real apologies from the staff, there was no communication to let us know about any of the broken facilities when entering the spa and it was dirty. All in all a huge disappointment. We spoke to reception when leaving and they said the sauna and jacuzzi had been out of action for some time. Why not email us to let us know in advance and we would have rearranged the date.
I would 100% NOT recommend this hotel and spa and will never be returning. The only reason it has one star is because I can not give it zero!
Excellent breakfast and parking
Staff disinterested, we even had to ask about breakfast arrangements. Room was too hot, towel radiator was always on, though there was a fan it just moved the hot air around.
Clean and location
Unwelcoming staff, unable to obtain meal in hotel due to two weddings with guests in the bar area which we were not advised followed by incorrect information that food could be purchased in the golf club that was closed
The hotel was very clean, peaceful location and staff were smart and helpful
Lovely garden, easy access to bar and restaurant
No air-conditioning in the room on the hottest of the year
