Don’t bother
Pros:

I was given a £50 gift voucher for afternoon tea for two. What a disappointment Marston farm hotel was. Not even a full sandwich each. 1 quarter cheap thin ham. 1 quarter a very small amount of egg mayo. 1 quarter tuna mayo. Pork pie was cheap and no taste to it. Carrot cake was sawdust. Two scones that looked like they had been scrapped off the bottom of a very dirty oven. Definitely no where near £50 worth of food or surroundings.
Room was empty apart from me and my sister. No background music. No atmosphere. Old curtains all torn and ragged. Only one ladies loo and it was at the top of a very steep flight of stairs. Corridors with old carpet. Place needs a complete overhaul. Smelling very old and musty. The hotel is at the end of a long driveway with very poor signage.
If you’re thinking of going for afternoon tea don’t bother. Spend your money somewhere else

Manager and Staff for sure were 5 Stars, hotel has a potential once it is fully operational!
Pros:

Did not have dinner and breakfast was okay

Cons:

Hotel was under major renovation which we were not aware off in advance. It was like a construction site, had water issues, bar was not fully operational due to beer taps not been up and running. Having said that, hotel manager and staff were good and did everything possible within their reach to make the stay comfortable.

Lovely afternoon tea
Pros:

Lovely afternoon tea. Staff were very helpful when my mum and dad couldn’t walk far and took us a shortcut to the restaurant.
Plenty of tea in cute crockery, copious top ups of tea. Lovely cakes and scones.
Staff were great when my Dad felt a bit funny in the heat. Thanks for your kindness. Will definitely return.

Anyone for a new series of Fawlty Towers?
Pros:

Communication was good before the stay.

I was changed from my booked Twin room, to a double, and given a newly refurbished room, which was lovely.

Great shower, reliable temperature, nice new furnishings and well presented.

Cons:

Fawlty Towers material everywhere I'm afraid.

TV's purchased for the newly refurbished rooms were late to be delivered, so there was no TV in the room.

Evening meals in the restaurant became unavailable at short notice on Saturday. This was due to the temperature I believe.
No evening meal was available on Sunday evening.

To get to my newly refurbished room, I was directed down a corridor that was clearly a work site, with site regulations notices, carpets protected by polythene sheets and work evidently in progress.

Breakfast on Saturday morning included milk that was clearly on the turn. It was replaced as soon as I discretely mentioned it. I believe, as a result of a later conversation, that the fridges were unreliable and contents had been moved due to temperature fluctuations.

Upstairs, where my room was located was less evidently a work site, until Monday morning when it was filled with copper piping and blocked with ladders being used by building trades.

The highlight (???) was Monday breakfast... Continental only available, with the fire alarm going off half way through munching my bowl of cornflakes. Builders on the next table shrugged and vacated, saying they thought someone had set it off. As I was sitting next to open doors to the garden, I continued my breakfast as I could vacate pretty quickly if needed. The alarm continued for 5 minutes before a member of staff appeared to apologise and explain that they couldn't turn off the alarm because painters had painted the box containing the control panel, and it stuck shut, require a knife to prize it open!

I understand the pressure to keep selling rooms in a hotel undergoing refurbishment, but seriously, is this even legally acceptable?

No (partial) refund was offered for these unavailable services.

The newly refurbished room was lovely, but the main light could only be switched at the entry door, not beside the bed.

Cons:

On arrival told that my accesable room was not available as it was being refurbished, consider that I booked in march for this very important weekend, I was left high and dry the room offered was upstairs with no lift and was told by the receptionist that I had been notified that morning, considering my journey was 150 miles and had no communication before leaving home what was I to do,no alternative accomodation was reccomended if it had'nt been for my daughter and grandson we would have been left high and dry. We are pensioners in our 70s and would not reccomend this place to anyone, INCONSIDERATE SELFISH PEOPLE ,NO MANAGEMENT AVAILABLE JUST LEFT TO YOUNG RECEPIONIST

I didn't stay, the hotel was sold to me as 4 Star,. It had no Air conditioning and the hotel smelled
Cons:

It smelled damp, it had no air conditioning and was not a 4 Star hotel. The room was tiny. I checked out immediately and the receptionist said that I should contact Bookings.com to claim my refund and the Hotel would approve the refund.

Being refurbed, should not be open until this is finished and they figure out how to work the central heating so it’s no
Pros:

The room was clean

Cons:

The room was extremely hot, the bed felt as though it had an electric blanket. I needed the windows open but it was above the bar and restaurant area and everyone was sat outside below my bedroom window until late. No fans available and hotel receptionist said there was only one fan and she has it as she has bought it from home.

When I went down for breakfast I realised why my room was so warm it was because the heating was on in the bar and restaurant area even though it was in a heatwave and had been over 30c.

The most uncomfortable nights sleep I’ve ever had in a hotel.

Pros:

It was in a very pretty setting

Cons:

The place was a bit tired and could do with a facelift. Also there were builders drilling and banging until 5.30, which spoilt the atmosphere, which would have been good as the setting was very peaceful.
