the hotel staff are warm and welcoming. good breakfast. few things noted:
1. the hotel needs to be refurbished especially the bathrooms.
2. introduce some cashless modes of payment like VISA or mobile payment, we had to go withdraw money from an ATM because the VISA machine was faulty and mobile money payments they were not accepting.
3. revise the rates as it is only a 3* hotel with no wow factor.
Arrived friday ...and customer care was very impressive even if the staff were few ...our stay was made very comfortable especially by a guy called Nicholas he is a waiter over there ....very kind and polite and he made sure we ate on time the rooms are comfortable facing a beautiful view towards the bridge very nice to take pictures..
The fish is really fresh and yummmmmy and the morning breakfast is super .I actually enjoyed my stay .
Came with my Ugandan fiancee after our wedding introduction. Hotel doesn't look anything special, but the staff are friendly and helpful. We had dinner in the restaurant food was superb. We had a few drinks and dinner and the price was equivalent to £11.90 in GBP. I was amazed by the view of the Nile from our room but also from the restaurant. The rooms are clean and tidy and have AC. My only complaint would be the bed was like sleeping on a concrete slab it was rock hard and not comfortable. But overall a fantastic visit and would recommend this hotel to people. And a bonus is source of the Nile is a 2 minute walk away.
The hotel was undergoing some paintwork during the stay but it didn't interfere in any way. Room was good, had to pay a bit extra for the room with a view of the bridge over the Nile, but was definitely worth it.
Noteworthy that the room rate included some other taxes so first price isn't the final price.
Room was clean, night peaceful and breakfast was exemplarily fresh. I would definitely stay again.
A slightly run down and quirky hotel where we spent four nights. Staff were very friendly and helpful with our group's queries. Room was clean and we received bottled water every day (2 X 500ml bottles) but not sure if this is consistent for all. My room had a balcony which overlooked the River Nile, saw some stunning sunsets. Took a walk down the steps along the railway track to the Nile River. Many people use this route for commuting purposes. Breakfast was varied - cooked and continental and Western diets catered for. Ate in the restaurant for some lunches and dinners - well priced and portion sizes are huge! Food tasted OK, a little hit and miss. Milkshakes went down well! WiFi signal not too bad. Overall a pleasant enough stay for what we paid.
It was a business trip and i have stayed for two nights. Both dinner and the breakfast was ok. The hotel is old but rooms are clean. Staff were all helpful and the best thing was great nile view. Price is reasonable.
Really very good on the banks of the Nile. Staff so helpful to make a great success of the wedding event. Views are good and food good for both African and European taste. Rooms are comfortable with mosquito nets and good water pressure and hot water. You can pay by card here
Our third visit to Uganda as a family in five years and Sunset is still our first choice as a base between short trips within the country. Some nice improvements since our last visit, e.g. flat screen TVs in both our rooms. WiFi is much improved with strong/fast signal in most common areas (but not more distant bedrooms). Still the same super-friendly and helpful staff (they remembered us!). Still the same menu of simple but well cooked food in plentiful portions. Still the same priceless view across the Nile from your balcony. (Not all rooms have this view, be sure to request it.) Recommended without reservation as your starting point to explore this wonderful country.
Not a good value for the cost. Sure, it has AC & hot water, but you'll have to hold the shower head over your head to bathe (its not mounted) & hope you can find good batteries for the remote to turn on the AC. Bed has no headboard or posts to hold the mosquito net, so it drapes in your face all night. Bathroom light didn't work. Staff didn't attempt to change the bulb, but instead said to shower in another room. Price told over the phone did not include tax, thus actual price at checkout was 30k more than quoted. After one night, I left for another hotel for the next two nights of my stay in town.
Celebrated Easter Lunch at this Hotel.Had been there a long time ago.Nice reception given and we were ushered to a dining area with a beautiful view of the Lake.
Menus were given and orders taken. Please be advised that food does take time but the staff are very skill and give you food to nibble on while you wait. The fresh juices were very good.Pizza ordered was good.Chicken Kiev thoroughly enjoyed. The sweet corn soup was well prepared and served.Spring rolls were very good. The Chinese cuisine we ordered-Egg fried rice, vegetable noodles, sweet and sour chicken and the Beef sizzler were excellent.
A good Easter Lunch and well appreciated.
Went Jinja for a business deal spent some time with team over hotel had a nice time food was good along with service and staff were good friendly with a charming face always ready to help nice hospitality received.
I have stayed here every December since 2014, the most exciting part of this is, i always check in late but somehow i have ended up getting the same room all the times. The view is breath taking and the breakfast was really wonderful.only sad part was being told to go to the next hotel for swimming. otherwise this is a really lovely place
Lunch in the terrace room overlooking the Nile was stunning! The hotel is very well cared for and has air conditioning in the room!!! There was mold in the bathroom and wish my linens would have been a little fresher but overall was a great stay.
While the hotel was only average due to the attendant turning off the air-conditioning every time they cleaned the room, it was a decent room for the money. The food was very good however, with the Chinese dishes being especially good. The Chinese food was the best Chinese I have ever had the pleasure of eating.
I love this place.
The food is good and the view is unbelievable.
The chinese chef is elusive but the chinese food is great.
It's always reassuring when the chinese chef is in.
Great place altogether.
It is just like home to me in Uganda and everyone is so helpful and friendly and it is just nice to be there. The food is good especially if they cook the breakfast for you personally and so is the evening meal. I like my room, I usually have the same one and the air-con is very useful
Our recent trip to Uganda was very successful. We travel there every two years, and always stay at this hotel, because of the security and the safe food. We had some extremely nice wait staff in the restaurant, and the housekeeping staff was constantly working to keep everything clean and pleasant. The room was comfortable and fairly roomy, and on the ground floor. Some of the upstairs rooms were hard to find because of the many staircases. Overall, it is very pleasant for Buzungus (plural for Muzungu). Free wifi in the common areas.
Stayed here for 4 nights in total and the hotel staff couldn't do more than enough. They were dedicated to please guests. Bit disappointed that the outside of my hotel room (room 55) had all the hotel washing hanging on the line...! Food was good, I had to buffet-type meals and all food was piping hot and there was a good variety mixing traditional, local dishes with westernised meals. The location is fantastic! River Nile boat cruises can be easily accessed by the steps to the River Nile. Bit disappointing that there is no pool and you have to pay to use next doors hotel but the view of the sunset really does give this hotel its title- Sunset Hotel.
We travelled to Jinia for five or seven nights as part of a charity trip with my sixth form a pretty big group. Jinja isn't renowned for it's hotels which is understandable, we were greeted with a warm welcome and then shown to our rooms, very small with little space to relax into, bathroom was dreadful have to say a real haven for mozzies at night. The location really helps the place as at breakfast and dinner it's evident that this is it's main attraction. The food was better than expected with high security which was very satisfying as the area is charming but slightly rough. This hotel does need some serious investment and some refurb to make it wondeful as it's very dated but all you basics are there. Also we watched the World Cup Final there which shows how good the TV is! :)
As others have mentioned, Jinja isn't really known for its nice hotels. That being said, I would definitely recommend this hotel. We stayed for almost 2 weeks while on a business trip.
Rooms- the rooms vary quite a bit. My first room had a big 4 post bed with a mini fridge, and was pretty spacious. The bathroom, though, had a tiny tub and a showerhead that was so low that it only came up to my chin. However, I asked to switch rooms because I was on the 2nd floor, close to the road. I moved up to the third floor. My room was smaller, but had a much nicer view of the river. The bed was so comfortable! It has a mosquito net. The bathroom in this room was better, with a normal-height showerhead. You had to run the water for a while to get the hot water to come out, but once it did, it was constant. There was a TV in the room, but it didn't work. I didn't try the air conditioner because I never felt like I needed it.
Service- the service was AMAZING! Everyone was so nice and did everything they could to make our stay enjoyable.
Food- the complimentary breakfast was really good. It always consisted of eggs, baked beans, chips, sausage, toast, fruit, coffee, tea, and juice. We asked the restaurant to do a packed lunch for us each day, as we were spending our days working in rural communities. The packed lunches were delicious and convenient. We also ate dinner at the hotel several nights. We enjoyed everything we tried. The menu is huge! The only disappointment was that the chef who could cook Chinese food was hardly ever there. The prices at the restaurant are very reasonable.
Internet- the internet in the lobby and restaurant worked well. It was slow at times, but we always had access. The internet in the rooms, though, was completely dependent on which room you were in. My colleague had a wireless router just outside her room, so she had constant access. I was only 2 rooms down, and had no access at all. If internet in your room is important to you, ask to test the room before you commit.
Location- The hotel overlooks the water, so the views are gorgeous. As the name implies, the sunsets are spectacular! The hotel is next door to another hotel, which has a pool and gym. It's not too far from the main street in Jinja (though you most likely would need to drive to get there).
Overall, if you need a place in Jinja, I would recommend Sunset.
