very atmospheric old inn, all wonky floors and low beams. Great location in Old Amersham, v convenient for party I was attending and the surrounding area is well worth a stroll. Room was comfortable.
as is usual for these old buildings, sound proofing wasn't good - could hear water rushing through pipes when neighbours used their bathroom, and someone snoring nearby. The regular opening and closing of the cleaners' supply cupboard right outside my bedroom door didn't help either as I attempted a bit of a lie in on a Sunday morning.
The buffet fried breakfast wasn't great - maybe just bad timing on my part (arrived 2hrs into the service window) but several components were lukewarm and tasted like they'd been sitting for quite a while.
Our premium room was upgraded to a suite which was exceptionally comfortable and with a lovely roll top bath

Great location in lovely Amersham Old town. The Crown has a nice feel about it. Although our room was quite small, it was very clean and comfortable. The staff we encountered were all very well-mannered and helpful

The evening meal was excellent. The bed was very comfortable.
Constantly, throughout the night the extractor fan from the kitchen roared outside our room. I was unable to sleep. I complained to the manager and she said she was sorry. It is not enough when someone pays a lot of money for a room to have such a weak response from the management team. It appears they are not empowered to offer some form of compensation for such a poor quality environment.
Location is excellent.
The first deluxe!!! room we were given, was dark, gloomy, grotty bathroom, no wardrobe, just two hangers on a shelf and no other furniture. We moved to a new room in the courtyard. It was much better but certainly not four star.
Always love The Crown 👑 when we visit, and nice to get an upgrade.

Parking is behind the hotel and can fill up, especially if there’s a special event taking place. The hotel was constructed beginning in the 16th century.
Our room was in a newer building and was very large. Being newer, it didn’t have the character of the old buildings. The room had a separate sitting room and there was a tub in the bedroom. I felt the room was clean although some furnishings could stand to be replaced and the carpet was in need of a good cleaning. The room had A/C and a small refrigerator. Sleep quality was only ok as there was an intermittent exterior mechanical sounding noise that would come on for a few seconds about every fifteen minutes.
Like in many villages the hotel facilities can be hired out for private events. That was the case the evening of our stay. For dinner we went down to the Crown’s sister hotel, The Kings Arms. Guests at one hotel receive a 10% discount when eating at the other.
The breakfast buffet was adequate and consisted mainly of items in a full English. There were few options. Staff were slow to refill empty platters on the buffet line. For those not wanting a full English there were some additional hot options one could request.
