Disappointing. For the price paid I would have expected a more pleasant stay and a cleaner bathroom.
Pros:

The staff on the front desk

Cons:

For £220 I would have expected better. No aircon made the stay extremely uncomfortable. We were on the second floor and it was like a furnace and no windows could be opened.

Sweaty and expensive sleepless night in a great location in Oxford
Pros:

Good location, pleasant lobby, comfortable bed

Cons:

Hottest hotel room I’ve ever experienced- windows only opened a tiny amount so no relief even at night. The room smelled bad too. Weak shower and fittings attached to the walls were not straight.

Best to stay away - Many Problems!
Pros:

There were so many problems with this hotel during our stay that it is difficult to name them all. The worst part of it was having an extra room booked that went missing and not honoring the quoted price because we didn't have the email with us. We were charged $379 pounds for one night, which is $500 - more than New York City!! This hotel is definitely not worth that. One side of the hotel is old and in poor condition. The elevator did not reach all the floors. There is no heat - the radiator did not function and the thermostat was just for show. A space heater was provided only after complaining. A blown lightbulb was never replaced after we asked for a new one. A broken bathroom faucet stem. Hot water took forever to warm up. Mysterious white stains on the carpet and curtains. Chain lock not functional, but had a bolt lock. Bottom of bathroom door chipped and broken. Weak wifi signal. There's a coffee maker in the room but they don't provide coffee packets. There's a pub but there's no service in the evenings. The disabled bathroom on the first floor is kept locked. The place is filthy. I took an alcohol wipe to the banister and removed some of the ground in black dirt. Needs a thorough cleaning and updating! Ugh!

Sadly now a poor hotel.
Pros:

No air con in our room over an unbearably hot period. No restaurant or room service. Limited bar service Vermin control not working. On a positive front the staff were as helpful as possible. We have used this hotel many many times and enjoyed great service, pleasant rooms and good food. Sadly we will not return until new management or owners are in place,.

Wir haben uns wohl gefühlt.
Pros:

Pros:

Location and availability of parking spaces

Cons:

Very stuffy, tiny rooms with terrible ventilation- understandable if there is no possibility of a/c installed in the very old building- although other hotels at the same location seem to manage to incorporate it- , but ventilation was not considered at all in the layout, neither the very old windows which did not open and it was very uncomfortable during a recent warm spell.

Chose the other Mercure hotel in Oxford
Pros:

Extremely uncomfortable conditions in high summer temperatures and no air conditioning. A small fan in the room did little to combat the heat in a room facing the sun. Consider an alternative hotel, the other Merucre hotel in Oxford is a much better choice.

Cons:

The receptionists should be nicer, more welcome, polite & helpful to the guest if something were asked or kindly requested.

Dirty room and poor service
Pros:

Unbelievably hot conditions in the room. Fan covered in dust and absolutely filthy. Sheets stained. No elevator and no help given with luggage up to the second floor. A shocking experience and not to be repeated.

A very uncomfortable stay because this understaffed hotel lacks the necessary air cooling systems
Pros:

The location was very convenient for my evening event and other visits, but not near the station

Cons:

The small single room on the first floor was stiflingly hot with no air conditioning and only a small fan which was without clear operating instructions (only symbols). The reception staff could only tell me to turn up the speed of the fan (which made little difference). The staff explained that the hotel was overdue for a refit.
On the Saturday evening I had invited my granson to join me in the surprisingly large lounge area but I was unable to get him a drink because there was only one member of the staff on duty and he was entirely taken up with his reception duties.

Don’t stay here in the summer!
Pros:

Central location and parking

Cons:

NO AIR CONDITIONING! Room was so hot and windows only partially opened so was unable to sleep properly. Ended up checking out one night early even though I had already paid for the full stay and would not get a refund

Like a Sauna in the heat
Pros:

The staff were pleasant

Cons:

I stayed at the hotel during the heatwave and my bedroom on the third floor was like a sauna. It was impossible to sleep. It was far hotter than the temperature outside.

Disappointing.
Pros:

Location - staff were helpful

Cons:

This is not a £200+ a night hotel - it's a one-night transit for overseas tourists. Lack of a/c was a major issue and while (very noisy) fans were provided, they were not the answer. The decor and furnishings are tired and the signs of penny-pinching everywhere. Rooms are very small and the promised 'heritage view' in our case was the hotel car park.
We will not be booking this hotel again.
