Location and views
Most staff were friendly and helpful
Level of cleanliness in the bedroom and balcony was very poor
Brilliant location, lovely comfortable bed, nice breakfast. It's a pleasant place to stay.
Parking is odd, there are 8 spaces immediately outside the entrance but these were reserved without explanation - owning a supercar seemed to get you one! Car park behind hotel has no signs to indicate it's there and requires driving through an extremely narrow archway. Annoying to be directed there when there are empty spaces coned off.
Some maintenance lapses - our extractor fan for example didn't work in the bathroom
Welcome gin provided, yet no mixer - £3.50 from the mini-bar! Odd to spoil the gesture by not including
Building is noisy - nothing they can do because it's old, but noise travels easily through floors/corridors
I agree with other reviewers that some level of cooked breakfast ought to be included given room rates
Ultimately, despite similar pricing, this hotel lags behind its counterpart in St Ives, not least because St Ives includes Spa access. Some of the above things are within management control, yet they don't seem to feel compelled to act.
Location, views from the restaurant.
Carpet needs upgrading,cups/glasses not replaced after been used, toilet rolls not replaced.
Excellent location & staff
Parking is sometimes an issue & lack of air conditioning
Location, parking, room quality all excellent
Bar staff and breakfast staff were not very attentive, breakfast buffet was not restocked regularly or fresh real shame everything else was excellent
Location was superb
The room was advertised as a estuary view which we paid for but the window was small and it overlooked a car park so that was the main view. I brought this to the attention of the receptionist. I feel a little cheated
Lovely room with air conditioning.
For the price, it should have included a cooked breakfast. Also we were charged for 2 cooked breakfasts when we had only had one. Guests with dogs should be asked not to take them on to the lawn to do their business - yes, they cleared it up, but I wouldn't have wanted to have children playing where dogs had been pooing.
Beautiful property very central to everything
The room was very warm A/C would be perfect but understand with older buildings it can’t always be possible
Fantastic location and the inside of the hotel is really lovely with stunning views.
The rooms were crazy hot as it’s an old building and there’s no air conditioning and the windows only opened a tiny bit.
We had no hot water for most of one day of our stay.
Service was sadly a bit hit and miss, which was a shame as a lot of the staff were lovely. We had to wait quite a long time at the bar for service a couple of times. At breakfast we asked for one hot breakfast, and were given a menu but no one came to take our order. When we raised it with one of the waitresses she was a bit rude and just said well you won’t be charged for it, but that was hardly the point! On the same morning we ordered teas and coffees and waited at least about 25 mins for them to come, whilst watching other people who arrived before us get served hot drinks almost immediately.
The rooms were very expensive for the size and facilities provided, and the hotel charged parking and for a cooked breakfast on top of that which frankly is a liberty, especially when the people we were with have stayed there previously and neither were chargeable at that time. Just another example of a hotel trying to rinse as much money out of guests as possible. It’s a shame as Padstow is beautiful and we will come back but we wouldn’t stay here again.
Whole experience of breakfast was awful, it was that bad that we didn’t go for the second morning. The service was terrible had to wait to be seated, had to wait for tea and coffee (coffee eventually turned up but the tea didn’t) there was not much option and the banana bread was like sand.
More staff on a morning, fresh orange juices not the cheap tasting stuff. More options and fresher banana bread!
Nearly everything, except buffet a bit mean but adequate
We had a ground floor room with door to garden, the patio area to this was very dirty with cobwebs and obviously not been cleaned forceeeks, shame because the hanging baskets and planting showed someone cared
Location, Room, Views, Restaurant with lovely views and open windows + fans, all excellent.
We enjoyed Dinner in the Restaurant one night and the Bar and outside grass terrace all with beautiful views.
The restaurant was used for Breakfast too so the same beautiful views to start the day.
Service was generally good and sometimes excellent.
Breakfast was a little rushed and could maybe be extended 'til 10.30am to cope with late arrivals.
My husband enjoyed the cooked breakfast but found the meat Full English a little small and another day the Vegetarian Full English quite large.
I have to eat Gluten-free food. The Gluten free toast was good but the banana bread was not very tasty and tiny slices and gluten-free croissants are usually not very good anywhere so I did not try that.
I would have liked to have a banana every morning (not just the last day), and Soya milk available to drink, and perhaps Gluten-free brioche buns.
Service sometimes tailed off as the meal went on and sometimes there was no-one around to ask for things (breakfast and dinner)
Friendly and made welcome
