We absolutely loved that the rooms were all done in a unique and tasteful fashion, the décor in each is perfectly tailored to the room. The history of the building is prevalent throughout and it has a wonderful feeling.
All the staff we interacted with were lovely and went above and beyond, allowing us to have breakfast on the terrace when we came down a little late one day.
The room was also spotless. With some of the beams being hundreds of years old I would have expected that it would be a nightmare to keep clean, but not even a speck of dust.
The beautiful courtyard out the back really adds to the character and you feel right at home in a little bubble of the Great British countryside.
Woodstock itself is absolutely charming, with everything in the town being less than a 6 minute walk away. The hotel is also only 2 minute walk from the gates of Bleinham Palace.
My only wish was that our bathroom window would have opened, as it because a sauna in the 33°C heat! But with the building being historical - there’s nothing I would expect anyone could do about that!
The bed was really comfortable and the shower had great power and was really hot. Location is great in the village and walkable distance to the Place through the Woodstock Gate entrance.
The staff was friendly !
The room was really outdated. Old furnitures and carpet. Single glazed windows. The door had a huge gap at the bottom and a fidly lock, bot very secure in my opinion. The breakfast was average. We paid a fortune and were expecting better quality overall.
The room was big and comfortable. Breakfast was pretty good although the cooked breakfast was greasy. Staff were generally helpful and efficient. A lot of the infrastructure of the hotel is looking a bit tatty and tired - it could do with a bit of refurbishment.
Nice location, friendly and helpful staff
Nothing for us
Great location, rooms clean. Food was average
Food i.e. breakfast not that great for 4 star hotel
The location was perfect. The bed comfortable and the bedroom/bathroom as good size
The furnishing and aesthetic internally was tired and dull. The staff, although some friendly, it seemed were poorly trained and presented.
The bar area lacked comfort and appeal.
The breakfast was very poor. Mine was inedible. We paid additional for ‘speciality coffee’, again, I didn’t drink it.
Great location in the centre of Woodstock with lots of parking
Room 45 was over the bar area, really noisy, we could hear conversations as if they were in our room! Needed a good sleep as competing in the triathlon, no other rooms available as they were fully booked
Amazing location
Breakfast was limited
Enjoyed our stay, staff were friendly very handy for main reason for our visit, to see Blenheim palace
Could not open the room windows
A piece of history and really comfortable bed.
The staff were friendly but needed a bit of training!
We strongly recommend The Bear Hotel in Woodstock. It is a wonderful, charming hotel, in an ideal location for visiting Blenheim Palace and for jumping off to the Cotswolds. The service was outstanding and we also recomment dining in the restaurant. Our experience at The Bear exceeded expectations. But be aware, as with other small, older, charming hotels, there is no elevator or air conditioning.
as we were disappointed with the room and breakfast they gave us another upgraded room foc
room was dark and dingy shower very difficult to work. Carpet stained badly. breakfast was very basic
Good parking outside our courtyard room, which was spacious and comfortable. The walk-in shower worked well but the tray was shallow and leaks into the main bathroom floor. We had booked dinner B&B with £30 allocated for dinner. The menu was a choice of 2 or 3 courses with the latter costing £26,below our limit !! Only 5 options for each course ,very limited and we chose the flat steak which had an extra charge of £7,taking us over the price allocation.Only 3 tables were filled the whole evening and we are not surprised. The steak was just about edible ,although the chips were nice.My wife couldn’t eat the dessert of lemon tart straight probably bought in.Lady from another table sent her meal back ,saying it was ‘horrible’.The whole atmosphere was one of decline.Manager knocked off the extra steak cost and the wine too.We will not go there again
Great. Location for visiting Blenheim Palace,On Site Parking at £5 a Night.Staff Very helpful and Friendly.Breakfast was just about acceptable. Our Room was basic Bed was Fine, Bathroom needs attention owing to black mould, and Radiator needs Bleeding as it was making very odd noises throughout our stay This Hotel and it's rooms really need a massive Refurbishment as everything is looking tired and worn out.I would rate this Hotel 3 Stars and that is being very generous
Excellent Location.Good Breakfast.Friendly Staff.Ample parking
Very Noisy Radiator in our Room, badly needs Bleeding.Kept me awake throughout my stay.
