Unacceptable Hygiene, Defective Room & Post-Checkout Billing Mismanagement
Pros:

​I am an IHG One Rewards member who stayed at Holiday Inn Dover from 16–17 August 2026 (Booking Ref: 28825700). Despite both local hotel management and IHG Corporate acknowledging severe operational and hygiene failures in writing under Corporate Case Ref: 10602064143, they have failed to provide the promised resolution or follow-up within their deadline.
​Key Issues:
​Hygiene & Cleanliness: Discovered a toenail clipping on top of the bed sheets upon arrival, along with stray hairs on both beds, floors, and walls. Housekeeping replaced the linen, but the replacement set also contained stray hairs.
​Room Category & Defective Facilities: Reserved a 1 King Standard with Sofa Bed and Nespresso machine. We were assigned a room with two double beds, a standard kettle, and a non-functioning air conditioning unit that made the bedroom uncomfortably hot.
​Facility Orientation: Staff failed to provide basic guidance regarding hotel amenities at check-in, making it difficult and awkward to locate or access the gym during an ongoing event.
​Billing Disruption & Invoice Refusal: My stay was confirmed as prepaid at check-in with zero issues flagged upon handing in keys at checkout. Two hours later—while actively boarding a ferry—staff repeatedly called demanding immediate payment over the phone. When I requested an emailed invoice so I could verify the charge (as the booking was made months prior in January), staff refused. Without performing proper identity verification, the staff member simply asked "Am I speaking to Russell?", read out the last 4 digits of an old card on file, and insisted on taking card details over the phone.
​Management admitted to these failures in writing, yet no partial refund or loyalty points compensation has been issued. I strongly advise future guests to inspect their rooms thoroughly and double-check billing before leaving.

My family enjoyed the stay and it was lovely.
Pros:

Customer services was great and the room was okay. I love the food as well.

Cons:

The fridge was not working which was not really good as we stayed for two nights without cold water to drink. The phone in the room was not working the first night. The toilet does not have the brush to clean the WC after using it.

Very disappointing & poor service.
Pros:

The hotel is well placed for a stop over for the port of Dover.

Cons:

Despite having booked a twin room, when we opened the door to our room we found out that it was a double. With my son we returned to the reception where the attendant did not show any interest & attitude was, well it that or nothing. After a 5 & half hour drive, this is not what you would expect from that chain. What we ended doing was for one of us to sleep on the floor as the receptionist gave us some sort of thin mattress as an extra. Totally unacceptable....

Pros:

Petit déjeuner classique. Possibilité de restauration au sein de l'hôtel. Grand parking privé gratuit. Hôtel de plein pied donc pas de perte de temps dans les ascenseurs. Juste à côté de la national vers Canterbury.
