Nothing really
Extremely disappointing stay and nowhere near deserving of its four-star rating.
From the moment we arrived it was obvious that this hotel was in desperate need of investment and maintenance. The property felt tired, worn and neglected, with leaks throughout the building requiring buckets and towels to catch water from the ceiling. Whilst management may consider wet floor signs and buckets an acceptable solution, guests paying four-star prices should not have to navigate around what felt like a temporary disaster recovery operation.
The condition of the hotel itself was equally poor, with missing ceiling panels, grubby staircases and communal areas that looked battered from years of neglect. We also documented what appeared to be mould in areas of the property, which only added to the feeling that standards had slipped significantly.
The swimming pool area was perhaps the most concerning aspect of our stay. Broken pool tiles resulted in my daughter cutting her foot, which is completely unacceptable in an environment that is supposed to be safe for families. Interestingly, staff seemed more concerned with policing where children sat around the hot tub than addressing the condition of the pool itself.
Food and drink prices were eye-watering considering the standard of service provided. We paid premium prices for drinks and meals, only to receive incorrect orders, lengthy waits and forgotten items that had to be chased repeatedly. Having to return to the bar multiple times to obtain drinks we had already paid for was frustrating and unnecessary.
Breakfast was another low point. After paying extra for the privilege, we were informed upon arrival that there was no room in the restaurant and were instead placed in the lobby area by the main entrance, with guests constantly walking past and doors opening throughout the meal. To make matters worse, no table had been prepared and we were left to find our own cutlery. It felt more like an afterthought than a service.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast really good.
Spa and gym very good.
Very dated rooms that look more like a meeting room
The staff are really friendly and helpful
Breakfast was good. Room was comfortable
Breakfast room was a little too cold.
The staff are very helpful, the breakfast was great, nice little bar area, plenty of parking.
We stayed during a very warm spell which made the second floor hot and our room was uncomfortably hot at night if I stayed again I’d request a room on the first floor.
We attended for a wedding and were upgraded to a mini suite as we took our daughter with us last minute. Staff were very attentive and seemed nothing was too much trouble.
Hover flies. Where our suite was located we had to walk through a corridor which was linked to the conservatory. The area was covered with these flies. But…it was a hot day, they were probably trying to get in the shade 😬. Did not affect the stay though.
Firstly, the staff were really pleasant and friendly. The breakfast was tasty and offered gluten-free muesli and cornflakes. Location was excellent for a local wedding.
The carpets were grubby in corridyand stained in bedroom. There was no shampoo in bathroom and dispenser was broken. No air conditioning but a fan was provided.
Friendly staff. Comfy bed
Air con woukd have been very welcome
It was close to the venue we were going to
The bedroom been extremely hot. Although there was a fan, it didnt make the room cooler. The bath felt unsafe when we showered. The toilet too close to the wall and too low.
Lighter tog quilts for summer would have been a bonus.
