Categories

Cleanliness
8.8
Rooms repeatedly described as clean; housekeeping adequate though some guests noted minimal in-room amenities (two towels, one soap).
Service
8.8
Staff described as friendly and helpful at front desk and bar/restaurant, but restaurant staff appeared understaffed and overworked, which affected service speed.
Location
10
Consistently praised as an excellent downtown location with easy walking access to shops, restaurants and bars.
Room Quality
6
Beds comfortable but rooms described as minimalist and small (narrow showers, limited square footage); some rooms have loud AC units that barely cool.
Amenities
5
Many amenities and basics are charged (parking, Wi‑Fi, bottled water, bike rental); limited hot tub/pool hours and some facility constraints noted.
Value for Money
4.5
Frequent complaints about being charged premium rates while incurring many extra fees; perceived as poor value given room size and extra charges.
Food and Beverage
7.5
Food quality described as average to good (some called breakfast excellent), but breakfast often not included and service at times slow due to understaffing.
Overall Experience
7.8
Mixed: excellent location and generally friendly staff produced a positive stay for many, but nickel-and-diming extras, understaffed food service and small/noisy rooms lowered overall satisfaction.

Nickel and diming soured an otherwise good experience
Pros:

The location of this hotel is excellent, the downtown is very close and there's so many good restaurants and bars nearby. If you want to be able to walk to everything this is one of only a handful of hotels downtown.

The bed was decently comfortable, our room was clean, and the staff was friendly. In particular, the waiter and waitress we had at the restaurant and bar were very nice.

Cons:

I was pretty surprised at how many additional things you had to pay for. The very first thing we ran into during check in was that parking wasn't included and it was $20/night to park there. That kind of immediately soured the experience because we already paid for the room and it's not like there's much we could do about it. And maybe it states it somewhere in the fine print on their website or Booking.com that parking isn't included, but it's just not something you expect in Bend, there was plenty of parking and no reason to charge for it other than greed. Additionally, WIFI was $4.95 and a 12oz bottle of water in your room was $2.50.

The staff at the restaurant/bar were very friendly but it sure seemed like they were understaffed. I'm pretty sure our waiter on Saturday morning was also cooking our food and there was around a dozen people there. The food didn't seem much better than what other hotels offer at a free continental breakfast.

Paid premium price for less than adverage room.
Pros:

Location and comfortable beds

Cons:

Misleading pricing and square footage: room very small, shower narrow and small. No balcony. No breakfast included. Charged for parking. Short hours for hot tub and cold pool.

A real let down. Oh well.
Pros:

Location perfect for enjoying downtown Bend.

Cons:

Sometimes one goes to an under priced hotel and is surprised and delighted by the unexpected comforts, treats, or perks that are made available. Then there is the NEWBERRY in Bend. It’s Memorial Day weekend so you expect to pay more - in this
case over $500 a night. From the descriptions on various booking sites this hotel is a step above and deserving of premium pricing. Unfortunately our expectations and this weekends reality did not match. Let’s start with $20 a night to park in a motel parking lot. Then there is the $2.50 per bottle of 12 ounce water in the room - in our case our hotel status meant we did not have to pay for this ridiculously overpriced eminity. The room had two towels, one bar of soap, and they offered bicycles for $20 for the first hour and the breakfast, while excellent, was served by an obviously over worked solo waiter who obviously couldn’t provide the level of service one might expect. I think you get the drift. This place charges top dollar for substandard service and seemingly penny pinching extras and perks. We will definitely find another hotel when we next visit Bend.

Nice place but not a good value
Pros:

Clean, good location

Cons:

You have to pay for parking. Seriously?! You have to pay for a bike. You have to pay for breakfast when 90 percent of hotels in America provide free breakfast for the same price. It feels like a rip off

Love this hotel, ask for a room off the street
Pros:

Location, we love a downtown hotel. Walk to everything.

Cons:

Our room faced a busy street, so some road noise.

Motel 6 experience at Hilton prices. Won't return.
Pros:

Breakfast was great, location was perfect, staff was nice BUT kept saying that room was only booked for one (not true, I rechecked this with Booking) Staff seemed to imply that we were trying to sneak an extra guest in.

Cons:

Gym door lock broken so gym not available. Expresso machine broken. Room refrigerated not working properly, kept items cool but not nearly cold enough. Stains on the carpet, blinds. Had to replace our room key three times because it wouldn't work -- each time staff insisted that my very ill husband had to come to the desk as only he was a guest even though the reservation was for two guests. Paying for parking --annoying!!! Paying for a bottle of water -- insulting.
