Not International Travel Friendly
Pros:

I stayed at Fort Pontchartrain Detroit, a Wyndham Hotel last month, and while I enjoyed my stay overall, one experience completely overshadowed everything else.

My wife brought a very expensive hair dryer from overseas that requires a different voltage than standard US outlets. Unfortunately, plugging it in at the hotel destroyed it. What was most disappointing wasn't simply that the hotel didn't provide a voltage converter or any international-voltage outlet—although I would expect a hotel charging $200–$400 per night to offer at least one of those amenities for international travelers. It was that the staff seemed completely unaware that different electrical standards and voltages even exist outside the United States.

Rather than handling the situation professionally or showing any understanding of the issue, the response we received demonstrated a surprising lack of knowledge and concern. For a hotel in this price range, I found the lack of basic accommodations for international guests and the way the situation was handled to be unacceptable.

It's unfortunate because the rest of our stay was enjoyable. However, this experience left such a negative impression that I cannot recommend this hotel to others. A hotel at this price point should have better facilities for international travelers, or at the very least, staff who understand that electrical systems differ around the world and can respond professionally when problems arise.

Pros:

Personnel is very kind

Cons:

Honestly I have too many problems for a single stay in a hotel. I asked the room to be made and it wasn't, the shower flooded, and other things that makes you have an uncomfortable stay.

I would not hesitate to stay at this location again.
Pros:

The Detroit River View was excellent. It was nice to see the boats come and go. The location was a bit away from shopping, however a few restaurants were nearby. The room was very clean, spacious.

Cons:

Breakfast buffet was nice enough . They had an omelette station, many hot dishes. Coffee was so, so. Staff were very attentive. Our breakfast was not included, but reasonably priced. Spacious seating.

Solid Detroit Riverfront location with great views of the river and Windsor Canada
Pros:

Solid Detroit Riverfront location with great views of the river . Had a spectacular view of the Caesars Casino across the river in Windsor Canada from an 11th floor corner room. Check-in was relatively fast and friendly. The room was very comfortable and well appointed though relatively compact. The bathroom was ridiculously small and poorly designed with an ante-room with a dresser across from a counter with a coffee maker. This design took away much needed room from the bathroom elements. The problem was compounded by the door that swung in, resulting in the need to have it closed to even attempt to get into the bath/shower with sliding doors, way too cramped. From speaking with the rest of my group, it sounds like all rooms are a little different. Hallways are narrow. Was excited to see a giant flatscreen Roku TV mounted on the wall, but disappointed to find that almost all options were subscription based, requiring a login, with very little local or “free“ programming on offer. Large bustling riverfront hotel, home to a number of national/international flight crews on mandatory rest stops.

Excellent Stay - July 2026
Pros:

Tommy at the front desk is / was amazing! Very professional and simply put a nice person. Also, unsure of the bellman's name on shift on Wednesday 7/1 around 1 pm and Sunday at noon --- top notch! Both of these individuals deserve the highest accomodations / raise possible. They made the entire stay a pleasure.

2026 Summer Conference
Pros:

Location excellent to convention center. It was clean. Bathroom needs updated toilet that works and the bathroom should be a shower only. Too tight configuration for a shower/tub combo.

front desk staff had no care to do anything good but only bad to me for no reason
Pros:

Front desk agent check me in on June 30 6 PM I think she had an attitude in ger voice and she gave me a room right next to the elevator so the elevator kept me up all night after 30 minutes of being checked in. I noticed that the air conditioner was set on 69 but the temperature was only 78 the air conditioner never brought it down. I told the front desk they had maintenance come up here he changed the filter but still it was the same. I told the front desk it's OK. I change rooms tomorrow because I'm too tired. They said they will take a note but as I went to the front desk the next day at night time to change rooms after coming back to the hotel around 10:30 PM or so this girl was also not friendly at all and she tried to put me in a different room after saying that they're full even though I can tell the hotel is not full at all, and when I checked what room it was, it was a noisy room facing the city. I told her never mind. I will just stay with the elevator noise. She didn't care. Also I said it's hot in the room. She didn't care. A lady gave her another chance to prove if there's any decency in her, but she declined when I asked for a late checkout because she said the hotel is full and I know this is false. The maintenance guy was very friendly and so was the security and so was the waitress in the restaurant at evening. But these front desk agents both of them were horrible. It made me feel unwelcome at this hotel and I get the sense that it is because I am a white man with dreadlocks, even though I am dressed very nicely. I feel discriminated against. also, I almost forgot when I checked in the lotion, shampoo and body wash and conditioner Were all used already by the previous guest and I am talking about the small bottles that are the size of sample bottles that could easily be replaced. I stay in hotels at least two nights every week in the Detroit area three and four our hotels and this is the worst experience I've had. I also have two packages there that they never told me about. Now I have no way to pick them up for a long time. I want to call and ask about them, but I am afraid to get one of those two ladies at the front desk. I don't trust them.
