I booked this hotel after reading reviews and deciding it would be lovely to have a water view on this stay, so booked a room with a view. The location was a very short walk to the DAX to the airport, buses, People Mover and Qline. This hotel has historical significance as it was the site of a fort and built in late 1920's. The hotel was very clean and every employee was very cordial and professional. I loved the views from the 15th floor. Liked the bathroom mirror also and you can lock the door.
It is an older hotel and wear and tear is very evident, bathroom included. Went to enjoy some time in the hot tub (that I was really looking forward to-and never get to do) and the hot tub did not work. At all. The beds are firm. There was one regular coffee pod in the room and it was terrible coffee, lobby did not have backups for additional pods but you could purchase some Starbuck coffee machine jazz n the lobby. Listen, I am not a coffee snob but providing coffee to your guests as part of the overall hotel American experience seems like a minimum to me. I found a cardboard box for adult beverages left in the room that housekeeping did not see. I think I way overpaid $500 for two nights.
Close to everything walking distance to baseball stadium
Nothing
Location of the hotel is perfect for my preferences, tucked at the end of a main roadway, with little traffic around the back and none at the front, which overlooks the river front and is lovely quiet.
There are proper sliding blinds that are fully controllable with a simple up-and-down button (see photos) that make the room very dark, much better and more effective than most curtains
Beds are just really great, comfy without being too soft and squishy.
TV is big enough and allows you to log in your fav streaming service as it wipes out the login info at checkout time.
Good powerful shower and hot water temperature well judged; defogging large mirror is a nice touch.
Breakfast was good, nothing special but a basic variety of the usual (eggs, bacon, sausages, pancakes, yogurts, toast, etc.) and good coffee.
Some details of the room and bathroom could do with improving, like some cables sticking out of the floor/wall, which was unobtrusive, but still an eyesore (see photo).
Pancakes got instantly destroyed by the maple syrup, so some improvement needed there.
The front desk could do with more personnel.
No clear indications to lobby/front desk from the valet/drop off area, that is downstairs.
Great location
My tv didn’t work
I liked the location, it was close to the people mover which helped when it rained after the concert at Comerica Park. Also close to the river front. The staff were very friendly and that helped, Having a pool was nice. I loved the architecture of the rooms. Having the windows pop out was cool and if they decide to renovate the building I hope that design stays. The tv was nice size, the bed was so cozy I slept like a baby, especially with the noise from maybe the air conditioner?
So many things didn't really work correctly or were broken. For example went to the pool and the hot tub section didn't work, then in the sauna the button was on oddly. Also a bunch of carvings on the sauna wood. Next in the room one appliance was missing. There was also part of the shower handle which the top cover apparently had fallen previously onto the lower half. Also when turning the shower on the tub faucet was not fully connected to the wall, probably a structural issue later. Also a few cracks by the windows. For breakfast there were no signs stating as you walk in that you had to pay for it. They just came with a check and it totally caught us off guard. Do NOT get breakfast here, it was $20 a plate and you could get better food elsewhere
The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very clean. The staff was very helpful and they kept their promise by assisting us with our tax exempt status. It was great altogether
La vue
Chambre petite
La camera seppure di non grandi dimensioni era molto luminosa , con arredi nuovi e ben pulita. La posizione per vedere la città era perfetta.
Location, view
I booked a king room and it was great! Comfy bed, HUGE TV, and gorgeously decorated. The ambiance was perfect for a couple, and there was even a little daybed by the window. Also, an incredible view of the city and the Detroit River.
I’m not a big fan of valet parking, so my only critique is that this is a requirement.
