Proximity to centre
Not value for money nor 4* quality. Thought we were booking something special for that price but it's run down and in need of upkeep. Lots of areas where redecorating is needed. Breakfast was self service and the floor was sticky in the room where the buffet was. The counter tops were dirty and our table was very wobbly. The plug in the shower/bath was obviously blocked as water took ages to get down. Room was lacking in sockets and there was no welcome pack or WiFi information etc in the room. On arrival we were not acknowledged despite seeing two members of staff. We were forced to choose a specific time for breakfast instead of being able to attend at our leisure - never had to do this anywhere before. Despite being sent countless emails prior to the booking, including one asking if we were attending for a special occasion and me informing them of a birthday, there was no mention of this made- so not sure why I was asked in the first place. Generally disappointed - it is tired, a bit grubby and not the special getaway the photos or 4 star rating led is to believe.
We had an amazing overnight stay for my partner's birthday. We were pleasantly surprised to see we had been upgraded to a suite near the spa area. The spa facilities were spotless. It was nice to be able to relax in the swimming pool and jacuzzi after a long day at Chester Zoo. We ate dinner outside the bar area - the food was lovely and very reasonably priced. The breakfast was delicious and all staff members were very attentive and helpful. We will definitely be back to stay again!

Beautiful building, large family bedroom downstairs, character, close to Chester city and staff were lovely.
I thought the decor, tables & chairs in the dining room could be upgraded.

I had ants in my room, and I ordered champagne and the glass had lipstick on it.
Gardens to rear were stunning especially at night. Pool was great and easy access to Chester also
Lockers dont work in changing rooms ao just be careful what you take down to spa
