Great spot for exploring Nottingham as it’s based in a convenient location
Pros:

In the heart of the city extremely convenient to visit different places around Nottingham.

Cons:

The view was obstructed by another building and unfortunately the sink drainage was extremely slow and the lack of shower essentials, e.g. shower gel missing

Pros:

Location was great

Cons:

Tired room decor
No full time reception staff
Dingy reception atmosphere- no sense of welcome
No windows in room other than very high up small windows
Very institutional bathroom
Absolutely no sense of care from the hotel for one’s stay - sporadic staffing of reception is very unsatisfactory . Pleasant staff but no sense that there was a team
Looking after guests . It is a 4 star hotel quite unbelievably

Pros:

Sorry, but nothing much.
Don't be fooled by the photo!

Cons:

The hotel had changed hands since we booked. Which we were not informed about. Hotel run down, staff didn't even know what a shower mat was, when we requested one! The room keys didn't work, toilet flush needed repairing.
This is not what you expect of a 4 star hotel! Very disappointing.

Good value and had everything needed for a short stay
Pros:

Good location. Price reasonable. Room had everything needed. Staff pleasant.

Cons:

The entrance is a bit dark and miserable. Understand it’s an old building. However rooms fine. Breakfast very good. No USB in rooms.

A great stay all round and I would stay again
Pros:

Location and price

Cons:

Still “badged” as The Mercure on the outside so wasn’t sure if it was the correct hotel or not. Receptionist was very pleasant but when they started talking about breakfast I said I didn’t have breakfast they continued their spiel so felt a bit robotic

Perfect getaway.
Pros:

Close distance from the train station to the hotel. Very close to everything including the universities. Hotel was spotless, all staff friendly and accommodating. Room was excellent, lovely king size bed, very clean bathroom with beautiful shower, good sized tv and great size aircon unit in room.Breakfast was amazing with a great choice of foods and coffee. The young man on shift took excellent care of us.

Cons:

I felt the hotel was perfect for our overnight stay and we felt very welcome by all staff.

The perfect little getaway
Pros:

I loved the central location, very close to anytging you could need/want. The rooms were comfortable and roomy for the price. And the staff were always attentive when I needed assistance.

Cons:

My only complaint is my bathroom sink had cracks in it, still usable just a little worrisome.

Definitely won’t be going back under this ownership.
Pros:

Location

Cons:

Everything else, it’s not a Mercure anymore, it looks like it’s under new ownership and it’s dingy. The carpets throughout stink and the receptionist kept spraying air freshener into the lobby.

Massively over-priced and really depressing. Do not waste your money.
Pros:

Convenient for train and event we were attending.

Cons:

What didn’t I like? Everything. Dreadful gloomy decor. We booked two rooms, unfortunately, so doubly horrible.

We initially booked triple, but then had to add another guest just as we arrived. Plenty of rooms it turned out (now I know why), but no, we couldn’t switch from triple (‘because you have already paid’ - this was receptionist’s explanation) to two doubles (which would have been similar price). We were given £2 discount on the second room. At this point we hadn’t noticed all the problems with the rooms.

No soap in one bathroom - dispenser looked full, but empty, and broken loo seat; some previous guest’s contact lenses stuck to the wall in the other room. carpet coming up, not enough cups, not enough hangers, broken air-con. Dining room grim, breakfast dreadful. Fresh fruit didn’t look especially nice or fresh, and coffee controlled by one waiter who kept disappearing with the crap filter coffee, hot food not replenished frequently enough, not enough croissants etc… how hard is it to provide good breakfast?

The massive panel on the wall in the hall suggests a very different hotel. Something attractive and historic. It’s such a shame. The location is great, there is an amazing staircase and that is it.
