Very comfortable stay at the Portman Ritz - staff very very attentive and always avaliable. Special mention for the concierge and front desk staff serene, Corinna, Richard and John. They went the extra mile to make our stay very comfortable- with Serena even reaching out daily via WeChat to ask if they could extend assistance. Ricahrd and John helped us so much with our ever important Taoboa deliveries and recommendations of where to shop eat and massage.
It was also such a treat to have met Marry most mornings when we went down for breakfast- Great service - non intrusive and she was so amused about my concoction of lemon infused water and red tea.
Look forward to returning.
It was truly a pleasure staying at The Portman Ritz-Carlton Shanghai.
From the moment we arrived, the experience was exceptional, the limo service and thoughtful welcome refreshments immediately made us feel pampered and at ease.
We especially loved the Club access experience. From a seamless check-in to dining at the Club Lounge, every detail was carefully curated. The local-themed amenities and the thoughtful turndown service, including placing a floor mat with slippers for us, were such lovely touches.
My daughter absolutely adored the Ritz Kids amenities and the hand-folded puppy, it truly made her stay extra special. The housekeeping team also went above and beyond; they were incredibly observant and even provided a bookmark for my husband’s book, which we deeply appreciated.
We also enjoyed the wonderful atmosphere at the Ritz Lounge, elegant yet welcoming.
A heartfelt thank you to the amazing team who took such great care of us- Kimmie, Sophia, Fanny, Eelim, and Ali from the Club Lounge. You all made our first trip to Shanghai truly memorable.
Just back from a 3-day stay at the PRC. Whilst there is nothing majorly wrong with this hotel, it’s one I would not recommend or return to. It’s a business hotel, not one made for leisure travellers, and there is no getting away from this. As such, this has impact on a number of different things. Also, it’s an old hotel, and it shows, from the rooms, with really old window frames that let draft in, to the common areas, the carpets, the indoor pool, etc. I guess it is mainted as well as they can, but it doesn’t scream luxury, nor style and had no wow factor at all. The hotel is as busy as a train station with lots and lots of business clients coming and going, it has no real lobby area, probably 10 seats scattered across the ground floor (no where to sit after checking out, other than for a few seats), the entrance is small, shops inside the hotel on either side of the corridor mean it feels like a small mall, not a hotel, and the space they take is taken away from the space hotel guests could use. There is a small checking in counter, with a concierge next to it, and clearly they have no space to store luggage at the back, so the checking in area is filled with luggage left around from guests awaiting to check in and those who have already checked out. The breakfast room is quite big, if with very low ceiling, so it feels cramped, but it’s ok, not great, just ok. Choice at breakfast is good, excpet for more traditional fare like cheese and cold cuts (selection is small and not very high quality). Everything else is quite good, especially the pastry section. Breakfast is a busy affair, frantically busy in fact with business people rushing around, so again it doesn’t feel relaxing nor luxury in the slightest. We tried a buffet lunch which was really below par for such an establishment: not much choice (especially Western food) and often low average in terms of quality. Nothing was great or exceptional. The room itself was ok, feeling old, but clean, I’d say comparable to a 4 star hotel in Asia, so again nothing to remember there. We tried the pool, which is genuinely old, with old loungers and the water claimed to be 29C was actually rather cold, so on a day when in Shanghai was 10C we chose not to go in. We booked through Private Upgrades (which were great), but while the hotel agreed to a late check out, they failed to remind us about the US Dollar credit the room came with, then when we use the credit, they ignored it at check out and I was charged for a lunch we had, which should have been covered by the room credit. We had a late flight and were tired, so we wnated to spend longer sat relaxing at the hotel before heading to the airport for a 2.30 am flight, but we only found 2 seats near the door given there is no common space at all at the hotel. It was cold and drafty near the door so we ended up going to the airport 5 hours early, amd stayed at a lounge there. I will not return to this hotel. A city like Shanghai has such an incredible choice of modern hotels to choose from, often even cheaper, so it’s not a hotelwe would recommend.
Everything here is nice the accommodations and the people in the hotel was great.live to be back here
I stayed one night at The Ritz-Carlton Portman in Shanghai and had a really great stay. The location is extremely convenient, with plenty of shops and restaurants in the immediate area.
The building itself is older, but at least the room I stayed in appeared to have been renovated fairly recently. The room was relatively large and the bathroom spacious as well.
I booked club lounge access and it was definitely worth it. The lounge itself is located on the 43rd floor, while the club rooms are on the floors above and below, all connected by an internal staircase. This means you can easily move between the club floors and the lounge without using the elevator, which almost makes it feel like a hotel within the hotel. The staff spoke excellent English and were extremely friendly throughout the stay.
The quality of the food in the lounge was very good, with a nice selection offered during afternoon tea, evening service and breakfast, along with several wines and other drinks.
The gym is large and very well maintained. The machines are not the newest models, but everything is in great condition. There is also both an indoor and an outdoor pool.
Overall, I found the value to be very good for what was offered and would definitely stay here again.
Definitely my favourite hotel in Shanghai. It has it all: great location, excellent service, very tasty food, luxurious accommodations. Overall, unbeatable value for money.
We stayed for 5 days at the Portman Ritz Carlton and enjoyed our stay! Special thanks to our room attendant Yang! Also all of the girls on the 43rd floor provided excellent service!
I have had such a pleasant experience here at the Portman Ritz-Carlton. The staff has been so incredibly kind and helpful my entire stay. My boyfriend needed to go out of town for a few days and Audrey Yan from the front desk gave him her card and said to let her know if I needed anything at all. Also my room attendant Fanny made a beautiful bouquet out of pipe cleaners and had them sent to my room. They treat their guests so well <3
-Room is big and comfy
-Wifi works but as usual, no access to international sites like youtube or google
-good location but not walkable to bund. Very near to Kerry center
-Gym is professional grade, open 24hrs.
-Service from all staff is impeccable.
We tried to book entry to Shanghai natural museum but unable to do so, concierge warmly help us ( i think his name is Nick, gentleman with specs ).
On our departure day (26th Dec), we were almost late for our flight, but hotel staff helped us get a cab quick and instructed Cab driver to speed up and also which gate to drop us. Thankful for that.
The hotel location is amazing and room services are great. Special thanks to Una for the wonderful check in experience and introduction
The Executive Lounge of the Ritz-Carlton will not disappoint you. As a loyal Marriott and a fanatic fan of the Ritz-Carl
Good location, excellent service. The guest welcoming employee named Daisy makes the first impression of hotel very warm and welcoming.
Business center Room no: 3001
Lindsy at call center was attentive and warm patient helping me. The staff professionalism made me fell at home. The hotel enviroment is excellent. 👍🤝
Everything was ritz quality, and thanks a lot for the housekeep lynn, it was the most clean and best service that i have had from a 5 star hotel
Perfectly situated in the city centre, the Portman Ritz-Carlton offers both convenience and exceptional service. The staff were consistently warm and attentive, and the room attendants kept everything immaculate with charming personal details. I’ll certainly choose the Portman Ritz-Carlton again on my next trip to Shanghai.
Our stay at The Ritz-Carlton was wonderful as always, and the experience truly exceeded expectations. A special thanks to Yoki from the Executive Lounge — she was very professional, attentive, and reliable in coordinating all our arrangements. With her support, everything throughout our stay was seamless and perfectly managed. We are especially grateful for the outstanding Executive Lounge experience she made possible.
Best stay at a hotel in years. Stayed for a week-long business trip, wished it could have been longer. From check in to check out, the stay was everything you expect from a luxury hotel and experience. Attentive staff that learned your name and habits within a couple of days, a wide variety of choices of food and beverages in the lounge, and just all around well being. Slept like a baby, and enjoyed every minute at the hotel. You will too.
October 2025 Update
Given our prior great stay, we, of course, came back twice again, and everything is wonderful. Even the laundry service was excellent. Some of the same great staff members are here, as well as some new ones. Thank you to Tarik, Bas, Aileen, Lisa, Yoki, Kevin, Stanislav, Joy (housekeeping), and others, as I did not get everyone's names.

A really great stay. The staff treated us very well. Excellent treatment by the wonderful Club staff. Although I am sure I am missing a few names, I remember great, personalized service in the Club from Aileen, Vincent, Matthew, Autumn, Lian, Tina and Ruby.
If staying at this Ritz-Carlton (or most Ritz-Carltons for that matter), I recommend getting Club access. It may cost more, but the amenities and benefits are often worth it, as it is here. The Club has a lovely decor, five food presentations a day and soft drinks 24 hours per day.
Great luncheon buffet at Porter's and the staff is great. Phil did a an excellent job of ensuring that a lunch that we organized went well (and that I got the meringues that I wanted!).
Erica in housekeeping helped us with housekeeping needs.
Michael at the Bell Desk helped us when needed.
Cindy did a great job making sure everything was setup for our arrival and when we were there. And, of course, great supervision of the hotel by Jeff, who as did others at the hotel, treated us very warmly.
The hotel is very convenient to so many things in Shanghai, as it is right on West Nanjing Road, including great shopping.
This is my third visit to Shanghai. This time I'm going to Suzhou to do business. I'm very grateful to David Pu, the duty manager, for the arrangement and for coordinating the driver pick-up and lunch for us. Make sure we can go to Suzhou on time. Although there were some incidents, it was generally very good.
When you say the Name Ritz Carlton you think Luxury, classy and elegance!
I am sorry but this location in Shanghai does not have any of this! If you blind folded me and took off the blind fold in my suite I’d think I was in a Four Points Sheraton.
This location is old, my bed was hard, the smell in the room was like mold and it made me sneeze all the time.
The breakfast here was so so again nothing that made you saw wow!!
If you are looking for very nice property I’d recommend the St. Regis on the bund… it’s a way classier, elegant and luxurious property!!
Sorry just keeping it real!
