Horrific experience and a big mistake- we should have slept in the hire car!!

We were very disappointed and disgusted as we had a great stay at the Rydges in Wellington on the 15th Floor, which included breakfast, a beautiful view of the harbour and a modern room. We paid far less there than what we paid for this dump!!
The photos on the website are very deceiving as the room we were given, was more like a 40 year old room and looked nothing like the photo's online - or like a typical Rydges!!!
It was so dated and was not clean at all. The tiny, sketchy room had a view of the outdoor air con units, loading bays, a staff carpark and inside was vermiculite ceilings, a rusty old-school shower curtain over the bath and sticky bathroom floors, a bed that dipped in the middle, sheets that made me scratch all night and not get any sleep at all, not to mention the disgusting thick black hairs embedded in the towels.
We definitely overpaid for this place and I would NOT RECOMMEND STAYING HERE!! I wish I had of looked at the room first as there were other hotels in the area over $150 cheaper per night for a much nicer looking room. Rydges Rotorua, you should be ashamed of your brand and reputation and head office needs to go to have a night stay in room 119 to get the full horrific experience.

Great place to stop and stay. We would return for a night.
Pros:

Very handy for the 1 night we needed. Great block out curtains and very quiet! Excellent sleep that night.

Cons:

Bathrooms are a bit dated and could do with a refresh. But everything worked and it was fine.

Nice views to wake up to
Pros:

Staff were super helpful. I initially had a room in a different part of the hotel with no view so I asked for a room with a view of Whakarewarewa. I paid a small upgrade. The view was lovely. The food was great. Nice and clean rooms.

Cons:

I couldn’t get the heating to work. There were no extra blankets so I wore the bathrobe to bed. The downside to getting a room with a view is that you are near the pools and kids are running back and forth making noise but it all seems to quieten down by 10pm. Be content with no view if you want peace and quiet.

A nice place to get away to for a couple days respite
Pros:

We really like the Restaurant and Staff. The gym was great and the pools good. We've stayed there a couple of times now and will return. We also like that you can park right outside and it's nice to walk around the area.We also like that its just out of town yet close to everything.

Cons:

Our room was SO noisy!! There was a continuous loud generator like sound that never shut off - it was like being
inside an airplane and therefor kept us awake most of the night and made it very hard to sleep.
