When I complained on checkout day, the receptionist was not apologetic.
Instead she basically said that I never wanted the room anyway and that I was trying to get a refund the evening before. This was true because I was made aware that there was a school prom happening that evening and that there would be loud music until 12pm. I only booked the room the night before and you can only cancel upto midnight the day before you arrive. I was told about the prom the same day I was arriving.
However, this was not a problem in the end, because I was sat in the lounge with about 12 other people watching the By Election results on the TV until 3am. Everything else about the hotel was fine. It was just the room. It should be 2 star or 3 star and most definitely not a 4 star hotel.
The outside window sill of the bedroom was also horrendous. Peeling paint etc. It needs a good overhaul.
The receptionist did however offer me a 20% refund which I negotiated to 50%.
I was also promised an email receipt showing my refund, which I never received, despite asking for it again by sending a message through booking.com

I'd had a long drive so hoped to have a nap before my appointments this afternoon. The room wasn't ready for published check-in at 2pm. Laris invited me to wait in the bar area so that I could be checked in when ready - she'd let me know, this seemed acceptable. I checked in my car and she informed there was no charge for overnight parking. I kept myself in view, moving once due to the TV screens being a nuisance. Come 3pm, I thought I had better check for any update so revisited the reception and waited for Laris, since she had dealt with me earlier. She busied herself elsewhere / in the back office and ultimately I was blanked. Like we'd never spoken. Her colleague offered to check me in which I proceeded with. I mentioned that I felt ignored, like I was invisible which her colleague apologised for. Despite standing right next door to Laris, who continued to ignore me. If I was forgotten, that's not an issue, but how does a customer feel if they are completely ignored and blanked by someone they've spoken to an hour prior. Not valued at all
Vivienne is always really really helpful and very accommodating when myself and others visit for work purposes. Always on hand and her customer service is amazing.
The staff are always really helpful and attentive.
Jodie today brought over our coffees and was really pleasant and friendly
One overnight stay:
PROS: Nice room. Very comfortable large bed. Well designed bathroom with excellent shower.
CONS: Dinner: Starter - Breaded mushrooms with garlic mayonnaise - tasteless. Pork Terrine - passable but croutons tooth breakably hard
Mains; Fish with chips. Small portion of fish. Gammon with egg and vegetables. Gammon no thicker than bacon, very dry and tough. Dessert: Chocolate brownie with ice cream ok. Eton Mess: Edible.
Friendly breakfast staff.
The settee bed was terrible - mattress incredibly thin and frame weak. My 11-year-old son ended up having to sleep in bed with us and my 8-year-old daughter had a bad back in the morning due to the springs digging into her. Indoor pool was murky amd didn't look clean. Pool staff member was rude.
Never write reviews but after reading the bad ones I thought I’d share my views.
Stayed here for one night (on a busy Saturday) as part of a coach trip. Stay included 3 course evening meal and breakfast. Cannot fault it, food was great and the service was excellent considering how busy the staff all were! Shout out to the Greek guy sorry didn’t get his name. He’s here there and everywhere! Worked his socks off.
Room was spacious, ok slightly dated but very clean and the beds are comfortable. Everything worked as it should. What more do you want? Would stay again if in the area. Thank you! 😃
The staff we interacted with were excellent. Particularly the receptionist and the breakfast waiter.
We visited here for a family party. I have to start by saying, the selection of draft beer is absolutely abysmal. Do they know how to run a bar.
The bar staff ran out of glasses several times and even asked if I could have my gin in a pint glass.
One bar staff couldn't make a baby Guinness.
The prices are absolutely shocking for a hotel of this style. I've paid cheaper in top hotels! £38 for a bottle of prosecco! A double gin and lager over £20!
Train your staff and sort your bar out.
The overall appearance on the outside looks messy and untidy. A good gardener is what they need.

Room was an awful standard, window screwed shut, no aircon, room was hot all night therefore I barely slept. I asked twice if I could pay to upgrade and was told both times there were no superior rooms available, even though they were still advertised as available online and I could book it!
Excellent hotel great value for money. Staff helpful and friendly delicious breakfast and excellent service from Tony Claire and Emily altogether a very pleasant stay we will certainly be going back. Highly recommend this hotel.
Location cleanliness parking nice rooms and excellent service from all the staff. 😊
Very clean, lovely large room with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was excellent. Huge free car park.
Nothing.
