Terrible tired hotel that was vastly overpriced. We would never stay there again
Pros:

Very near the historic dockyard, the location was fantastic! Also adjacent to to the modern shopping centre which had some great restaurants and shops

Cons:

Staff poor. On arrival asked where we could get tickets for the historic dockyard and were directed to the bus station which was incorrect. The ticket office was in a different location, 200 yards away. Unbelievable! The room was small and the mattress was cheap with no firmness. Apart from some cheap shower gel in the shower or shampoo there was also no soap by the sink. Asked at reception and none was forthcoming until the next day. The air conditioning unit was “awaiting service” At breakfast the milk in our cornflakes was sour. Taken away with no apology. Our room was not serviced and we were assured that the carpet had been vacuumed. Absolutely untrue. How this tired hotel is 3 star is unbelievable.

A friendly, good value, character option for short-stay travellers to Portsmouth
Pros:

I like smallish hotels with character and Keppels Head didn't disappoint, with its Georgian heritage and maritime history. The location, so close to Gunwharf Quay, bus and train stations is a major asset for anyone travelling with heavy luggage, as is the hotel lift to all floors in the hotel lobby. Female staff were really friendly, polite and helpful and my basic room was quiet, spacious and comfortable with a spotless ensuite and lovely big, bath towels. Welcome bottled water was provided alongside the usual kettle, tea, and coffee. Breakfast was table service (a rarity these days) in a spacious restaurant area, and buffet choices were adequate rather than exciting. Cooked breakfast was ample. Overall, excellent value.

Cons:

I know it's difficult in older premises, but more power points in the room would have bee appreciated, and the all-in -one hot/cold water basin tap was not very good at delivering cold water. But, these are minor quibbles.

Disappointed with the room.
Pros:

The location is perfect . The bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was okay.

Cons:

The extreme heat in the room spoilt our stay this time, even though it was not particularly hot outside. We could not open the window more than an inch and despite there being an air conditioning unit on the wall it was not working. We were given a fan which only circulated the hot air and not cooled the room at all. The room was also dusty in places and could have done with a deep clean. Not ideal conditions for my asthma. Dreadful experience for us both.

A great location close to everything.
Pros:

The location is fantastic, it is opposite the train and bus stations and 2 minutes walk to Gunwarf Quays shopping outlet. The bus stop to Old Portsmouth and Southsea is just outside of the hotel.

The cooked breakfast is very good and you can help yourself to yoghurt, cereal, fruit etc also. The staff are very nice too.

Cons:

The shower pressure in room 28 was not great. The bottled water is not replenished, however there is a shop next door.

Nice view, kind staff, very outdated
Pros:
