Honestly? The morning when we woke up to leave....
EVERYTHING. We called over the phone and complained and were told "oh gross I'm sorry". Upon checking out we showed PICTURES as we complained. We were told the same thing as the night before. No offer of any comp, any refund, any discount on a future stay (that will never happen). But we were offered NOTHING.
Our check-in experience at the Wyndham Garden Anchorage Airport around 9:45–9:50 PM was absolutely unacceptable and one of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had. First, we were assigned a room that was already occupied. When we opened the door, there were guests sleeping inside. It was an extremely uncomfortable and embarrassing situation, both for the guests whose privacy was violated and for us after a long trip. When we went back to the front desk to report the issue, what made the situation even worse was the staff’s reaction. Two of the employees treated it like a joke and started laughing about what had happened. Their response was completely unprofessional and disrespectful to both the guests whose room had been entered and to us as paying customers.
After being reassigned to another room, we noticed that the door appeared to have been forced or previously damaged. I have attached a photo. Unfortunately, the problems didn’t end there. The room was not properly cleaned and was covered in old dust. The towels were completely worn out and should have been replaced long ago. The next morning, breakfast was just as disappointing. There weren’t even any forks available, making it difficult to eat. It is incredible that a hotel carrying the Wyndham name provides such poor quality accommodations and such disappointing customer service. This experience reflects a serious lack of attention to guest safety, cleanliness, and professionalism. I would not recommend staying here.
My Delta flight was first delayed from 10PM to 1AM on July 4th (5th) and then another 678 minutes just before 1AM meaning I was to fly out the next afternoon. I searched for a airport hotel with a shuttle rather than staying at the airport.
I called the local number on their website but it routed to a reservation center. I asked 3 questions - do you have a room, do you have a shuttle and what is the cost. I was assured of a room and that there was a 24 hour shuttle. So I made a non cancelable reservation guaranteed with my credit card. I asked that they transfer me to the local hotel for a shuttle pickup.
I was put on hold and the reservation person came back on line and informed me that the shuttle was not running as the driver had not showed up for work. He told me to take a cab. At 1:30 in the morning, I was not interested in dragging things out and got an Uber to get me to the hotel.
When checking in, I asked about covering the Uber cost and was told by the person on duty that they could not do that but would leave a note for the manager. She said there were many people who experienced the same thing.
I went to my room and changed for bed. I noticed that the pillows did not look laundered but figured that wrinkles were just not necessarily indicative of cleanliness. But when I pulled back the sheets, it became obvious that the the sheets were used with clear evidence of sex having occurred in the bed. it was really quite gross. The bedspread had been pulled up in an attempt to make the bed look made - but it seems quite obvious whomever cleaned the room was avoiding work and there was no quality control from management over their staff.
I called the front desk to complain and was told they would give me another room. So I had to repack and go downstairs to get a new room. No apology or acknowledgement just a new key when I went to the front desk.
In the morning when checking out, I asked about the cost of the Uber and was again told the person at the desk could not do anything. I asked that a note be left for the manager asking for a refund of that amount.
They then sent me a survey asking me to rate the stay. As you can imagine, I did not give a stellar review. The option to post my review to Trip Advisor was met with a message saying that link was currently unavailable (so I am guessing if you do not provide a good review, the link is disabled).
I heard nothing back other that today, July 8th, I got what is obviously an automatically generated message thanking me for picking their hotel and telling me they value my feedback. I sent a not back saying they had not responded to my request or even acknowledged the room that had not been properly cleaned.
I received a return message saying "your request 11829394 as been completed (DO NOT REPLY)"
The location, room and beds were clean and very good.
The promo regarding a pool (extremely small and cold) and 24/7 Gym (only 2 treadmill machines, no weights or anything else at all) was not as expected. The staff were not easily identifiable and not very happy looking but they were efficient. Maybe cheer them up and make them feel more appreciated so they in turn can make tired travelers feel more welcome.
Everything
My husband and I stayed at the Wyndham Garden Anchorage Airport for one night in July 2026. We were only going to be there for 12 hours before getting onto a small plane headed to another location in Alaska.
Folks - in Alaska (especially in the summer) it is all about supply and demand. There are not a lot of places to stay in Anchorage and unless you want to spend $400 - $600+ per night, you stay at a mediocre hotel like this one and pay about $300/night.
The staff were very nice and helpful and appeared genuinely invested in their jobs at this hotel. The 24/7 free shuttle from ANC was operated very efficiently.
I don't eat breakfast, but my husband did partake in the free breakfast. He said it was very crowded and not so great.
It's an older hotel. It definitely could use some remodeling/upgrading. The room was decent. Bed was okay. I did notice some creepy little areas in the corners of the bathroom. The desk area where the coffee maker is located had a glass overlay and something black was under the glass. Mold? I don't know - it was just my first guess. Maybe just ink from a broken pen?
I have stayed at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Anchorage in the winter and the price was reasonable, but their July 2026 rates are $700+.
Every traveler has their price point.
The Wyndham Garden Anchorage Airport isn't a horrible hotel, it's just "Alaska Summer Affordable".
Horrible experience. Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights, the rooms smelled awfully like chemicals. We immediately checked out. The front desk personnel were extremely nice and said they we request a refund, but the only refund we got was one room was charged for only one night (wasn't really a refund they just only charged one night). The other room was charged for 2 nights.
I like the customer service provided by Tiffany if I'm not mistaken that's the name of the front desk lady .room was available until 200 am
I checked in around 1230 am.1245
poor management in here if you don't have rooms clean and available you should not have them open to book I will l
There was nothing about the property I liked.
The room was disgusting. The sheets were stained and BURNED. We felt unsafe sleeping under the sheets given the condition of them. Went outside to catch a shuttle back to the airport at 3 am and the old “caretakers” of the property were there. They were riding bikes, asking for cash, and trying to break into rooms at the hotel. This place is not CLEAN and it is NOT SAFE. DO NOT BOOK HERE.
Smells funny, in poor repair, not clean. Bathroom had hair and sink was full of chunks. We were exhausted after traveling, and just needed a functional place, but this place did not inspire confidence.
Location
People sleeping in lobby on floor. Staff didn't know why or who it was. Hotel was not clean.
Only that it was easy to book thru booking .com
I booked the hotel at probably 5 or 6 PM through the app we ended app getting there extremely tired at about 11 PM figuring we could just check-in when I walked in there was about 20 people in the lobby all trying to get basically the room that I had already booked and they were being told to wait whatever whatever then I get to the counter tell them I just need to check-in because I've already done booked it and everything they tell me it's not ready sorry undetermined amount of time we sat there in the lobby with 20 other people Until 2 AM before we finally got into the room Also on top of it they tried to downgrade me to a one bed with a rolling cot and I told them no that is not going to work for us We just want what we paid for which is the 2 Queen beds so yes we had to wait till 2 AM and we can finally get in the room and it wasn't very clean but we were so tired we just went straight to bed online here it says breakfast is open until 10 AM we woke app at 9 AM to go down for breakfast and it closed at 9 AM so we did not even get our free continental breakfast the only reason we stayed there was to go into the swimming pool at 9 AM the pool was closed for cleaning In the morning when I go to check out I asked to speak to a manager the manager basically said oh sorry people were sick he didn't try to downgrade you he just hoped maybe you didn't care I'm like okay but I've never been offered that I've always been offered an upgrade when my room wasn't ready she had nothing really to say and I left there with nothing being fixed it just overall was a bad experience and I will never stay there again
It was on at least we got something to eat. The sausages were over cooked and the breakfast was the same thing every morning.
The parking lot could have been cleaned and at least put some parking markers to seperate cars it was like a dirty dirt parking lot except it was paved. Ever hear of a broom and a dust bin? Damn clean it once a year at least. The area was like skid row with drunks and depraved people around.
At least the room was quiet. We requested more towels for the room but did t get them and had to go get five extra towels and the person said you need that many??
We checked out immediately after checking in due to horrible smells in the rooms and bed bugs found. Booked 2 rooms for 2 nights and only one room for one night was refunded. Still ended paying 2 nights for one room and 1 night for the other.
My husband and two daughters 19 and 22 came up to stay for the week . My daughter had a track meet this was a great location for the track and airport . We turned it into a mini vacation to site see. The rooms was nice in size but did not get cleaned on a daily basis. You would have to go ask for trash bags, and towels. The staff was so nice and helpful and would get you anything you need . Breakfast was the same everyday eggs, sausage and potatoes with cereal, muffins pancakes and bagels.. We stayed here a week and it was always busy with new people coming and going.. This is a good turn around hotel for short stays. we opened up the window at night to get the alaska air as sometimes the air condition did not work. The window open was just as nice . The hotel inside was order looking would need some updates . Overall basic hotel for a good price with a nice breakfast .
Close to airport, nice staff
No shuttle to train station
