Categories

Cleanliness
7.5
No major cleanliness complaints mentioned; rooms described as 'tired' but not explicitly dirty—standard cleanliness for this hotel tier.
Service
7.8
Mixed but generally positive: several reports of very friendly/helpful staff (check-in, late-night friendliness, special romantic room set-up), counterbalanced by instances of curt/unfriendly reception and unresponsive bar/room service.
Location
9.2
Consistently praised: excellent west end location, next to the Botanic Gardens and close to the subway—frequent positive highlight in reviews.
Room Quality
5.8
Multiple reports of tired décor and maintenance issues (jaunty toilet seat, shower tap breaking, empty fridge shell, frayed duvet cover, plumbing outage) indicate below-par room condition.
Amenities
7.1
Breakfast and parking noted positively, but several in-room amenity failures (broken coffee machine, extractor fan, fridge) and unreliable late-night room service lowered the score.
Value for Money
7.2
Mixed sentiment: some guests found pricing reasonable (e.g., during events), others felt overcharged for the level of maintenance and service experienced.
Food and Beverage
8
Breakfast consistently praised as 'great'; however, issues with late-night ordering/room service and unresponsive bar staff tempered the score.
Overall Experience
8.2
Overall a positive stay driven by location, friendly moments from staff, and good breakfast, but hampered by dated rooms and intermittent service/maintenance problems.

Don’t Waste Your Money
Pros:

The history and culture behind this building is what attracted me to the hotel and the fact I thought it was a Hilton. It falls far short of a Hilton standard.

Cons:

The inflexible management. I was met with disbelief when I complained about the disabled access room grab rails were jammed to the wall. I discovered that the toilet was leaking all the way down into the bedroom carpet. So it was unsanitary. The cleaning staff were very helpful and the one young lady on the front desk who took my complaint to the manager was very polite and understanding.

A lovely confortable stay for our first visit to Glasgow.
Pros:

The room was clean and comfortable and the location was convenient for our Commonwealth Games stay.
We arrived several hours before our given check in time but both our booked rooms were available at 9:30am - perfect to be able to drop off our baggage after an early flight.

Cons:

The price was inflated due to the fact that the Commonwealth Games were on in Glasgow. We only booked a room but may have also had breakfast if it was included in the price we paid.

A very enjoyable stay and this was our second visit and will definitely stay again.
Pros:

Excellent facilities for our requirements. Excellent location with plenty of shops and eateries near hand.
Excellent friendly service from all the staff at breakfast & in particularly the restaurant servers who couldn't be more helpful and our meal was cooked to perfection.
On arrival we requested a fridge and a full size under the counter type arrived shortly after we got to our room 10/10.
Excellent WiFi
A unique sheltered sitting area at the front of the hotel bar looking directly onto the pavement and main road for people watching and chilling out.

Cons:

Our room number 106 with upper glass windows spotless, unfortunately the lower glass is filthy and not cleaned for some time.

Not happening again. Very poor.
Pros:

No water in the room which I find unusual these days. Decor was poor. Bathroom in desperate need of upgrading. No directions on when breakfast was being served or where.

Cons:

Breakfast was absolutely awful. Neither of us ate it. Coffee didn't taste like coffee. Staff were scruffy.

Safe, kind, welcoming and very comfortable
Pros:

Very clean, very comfortable, overlooking Botanical Gardens. Very pleased to have a bath available. Very good that the hotel is dog friendly and lots of lovely places to go with your dog on the doorstep, literally.

Cons:

I would have like to have have paid for my dog when I booked. I had stated on Booking.com that I was bringing a dog. Being dog friendly is a massive asset to you. Had I not known Glasgow, I would have really liked to know that there are good dog walks on the doorstep, and I would like to know where the nearest vet is.

It was nice to be settled in a room for our 5 day visit. The hotel could use an overhaul of thier rooms as they are aged
Pros:

It is an older hotel and it shows in the details. The bed was very comfortable and the room was simple and neat. We had stayed 5 days and the breakfast was plentiful. Location was right by the Botanical garden. Short walk to the subway system and walkable to the University.

Cons:

No refrigerator in the room, only window for ventilation and if facing the street, it was quite noisy and as a result, we requested a quieter room and they moved us to the other side of the hotel, which was much better but no view. We were on the first floor so we didn’t really have a “garden view” as was described in the reservation. Noise/with a view or quiet/no view….I would chose the latter as I’m a light sleeper and had not problems sleeping.

Sad, dissapointing and not worth the money!
Pros:

Not much to like

Cons:

The hotel does not meet the standards of a 4 star hotel. There's no fridge in the room. The decor throughout the hotel inside and out is very dated, grubby in places and tired. We were encouraged to book a room on the second floor to have a vew of the Botanic gardens, at extra cost. There was just a view of the trees. So we felt scammed. The windows were grubby and didn't close well, making the room noisy from the traffic. The curtains didn't close properly, letting in light. The bed and pillows were comfortable, and the room was clean. The duty manager was rude and unprofessional towards me when I had flagged up a smell of urine around the toilet not long after our arrival. Later, he accosted me in the foyer to inform me he and the housekeeping manager had checked this out and given the toilet a clean up. But that the smell in the bathroom (not the toilet. Two different things) was coming from my husband's shorts, which he had rinsed through and placed on the edge of the bath. Firstly, the smell was there when we arrived, before the the rinsing of the shorts. So, was the DM suggesting I don't know what urine smells like? Was he suggesting my husband's shorts smell of urine? Did he sniff them? Or is he so passive agressive in his own head, he needs to speak to guests in this way when they ask for assistance with an issue? He needs some customer service training. However, this was a conversation that should not and need not have taken place. He was defensive, arrogant and patronising towards me. Utterly astonishing behaviour! And very unprofessional. Especially when I had flagged the issue up on passing, on my way out, as opposed to making a complaint about it. Overall, our stay here was not a pleasant one. This hotel needs gutting and refurbished and run by professionals. Only then it might regain it's place among the grand hotels of Glasgow. We will not be back until this happens.

Very disappointing
Pros:

The location

Cons:

The noise. We were unable to stay as it was so loud. We were supposed to be having a romantic night away without our kids, but it was so loud we could not sleep. We ended up going home.

nice location, tired hotel
Pros:

Location is great - the West End of Glasgow has some great restaurants, the Botanical Garden and the Kelvin River. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Cons:

the rooms and hotel in general was a little run down - tired - and the bedrooms were quite small. There are only two lifts and when one is down queues with no obvious way to take the stairs
