The Celeste is a charming old conservatory that's now a hotel. As the title indicates, the conservatory used to be run / inhabited by nuns, and you get that as soon as you set foot inside and throughout the building. Overall, my stay was really pleasant. The location is quiet, is close to many restaurants, is next to a tram line, and is across from a Catholic church whose interior is beautiful! I would stay here again.
I loved every minute of my stay at Celeste - and ended up reading about its fascinating history - first as St. Agatha's from the late 1800s, and then as a hotel since the 1960s. Wonderful rooms, great breakfast, and peace and quiet :)
The staff at this hotel was very friendly and definitely made the check in and check out process easy! It’s a gorgeous location though the rooms themselves were more humble in design. During our stay it had rained and the floor near my bed (the side with the tv and ac) had become wet. I am unsure how this happened as it occurred during the night. I’m curious as how this happened since we were not on the top floor nor saw anything that would suggest a leak, and the spot did not exist before we entered the room. The staff did take note of this issue as we had checked out.
Liked the convent vibe
The discrepancy between what booking.com said it was going to cost 139 or 162 and it actually cost 186. I know taxes and whatnot are added but seems a little extreme
We will come back to this hotel when staying in St.Paul. Especially liked our room on the 6th floor, where we had views of the Capital from Cedar Street, heard the bells of St. Louis King of France Church, and walked to the Thai Sawtdee Restaurant both within 5 minutes walking distance.

I would recommend you give this spot a try, it is a nice space. I will stay again. Given that, I don’t really like its exact location due to the kind of activity that happens within those couple of blocks but during the day we were fine walking to and from our locations to explore the city. The breakfast was a bit lame.
My wife and I spent a weekend staycation up from Rochester We left rested and connected with much owed to both the happy and welcoming staff and the beautiful and unique hotel The Celeste is a happy place, very clean and has the best staff We enjoyed a first night drink and talk in the lobby Bar Our room had a great view of the capital The breakfasts and coffee were top notch I even enjoyed a quick workout in the small but enough gym Did I mention how clean everything was?
I loved the old world charm of the building. It felt like we were stepping back in time. And, yet, everything was modern and up to date in the bathrooms, etc. The daily breakfast was simple, but exactly what we needed.
As someone who is not from a large city, I did find it to be noisy. Our room was right on the light rail line, so it was loud for a good portion of the day. There was also a loose manhole cover right outside our window, which make a loud noise every time someone drove over it. None of this, however, is the hotel's fault. Just something to note.
I recommend getting Air Tags on the luggage carts or have a specific place where a guest can find them--They were hard to find for both the guest & the reception workers. They need better quality facial tissue in the bathrooms. The lobby service was top-notch & the rooms & bathrooms are quite spacious. The free breakfast was well beyond the typical "continental" breakfast--It was high quality & tasty. Ramp parking is available next door--just a 1/4 block from the hotel side ground-floor. entrance.
Absolutely stunning view on the 6th floor facing the State Capitol.
Nothing at all!
I loved the interior style. It was a good combination of vintage and modern. Was also within walking distance of the arena that I was there for.
The parking trying to check in as only 2 spots which is understandable for the area its located but still a pain.
Disclaimer that I didn't stay here! I'm leaving a review for the misleading pricing on the website and the customer service. The website showed the price for my dates was $845 "including fees," however, when I went to book it, the price had not in fact included all fees and the price was now $987. When I called to ask why, the receptionist was extremely rude. I understand that she is not the website designer, but there was no reason to be short with me when I was trying to book a stay.
The uniqueness of the building, rooms, and its history is its best marketing feature. Being in an old convent with most of the original features still intact is great. The updates to each room are modern, and they do a great job of highlighting the individuality of each room. The beds and pillows are comfortable, and the towels are nice and large. Parking can be a little difficult, but the ramp directly behind the property is super convenient. Proximity to bars, restaurants, and entertainment (Fitzgerald Theater & Grand Casino Arena) is easily walkable.
The history of the building can also become its downfall at times. Our door would not latch unless slammed shut and the water pressure in the shower was minimal. The AC didn't work in our room, but we were able to open the windows, which was nice. We attended a concert at the Fitzgerald and wanted a nightcap at the hotel bar, which was advertised to be open until 11, but was closed when we arrived back at the property. There were moments when we were walking through the surrounding neighborhood and experienced feelings of being unsafe.
Great room within walking distance of many things in downtown St Paul. The historic room was clean and had plenty of space.
Charming hotel, great vibe and excellent location next to the Fitzgerald Theater. Loved being able to open the doors to the mini balcony.
My room/balcony being across the street from the fire station wasn't ideal. A bit noisy with sirens a few times.
The breakfast was good. The location was good and the the building was beautiful.
Room cleaning seemed sub par. There was debris on the floor that made me wonder how thorough cleaning has been done overall.
