We have been regular visitors to NYC for over 40 years, first as a young couple on our own account, then as corporate employees w/ all expenses covered and now, as retired grandparents. This is all to say that we are familiar with a number of NYC hotels.
A few years ago, we discovered The Belleclaire by chance and have since become regulars while visiting family. We have come to recognize the difference between price and value and find that The Belleclaire offers both fair prices and great value.
We love the hotel - it’s convenient to both family and theatres, it’s surrounded by reasonably priced restaurants and there is easy access to the subways, taxis and abundant Ubers.
The staff is superb: continuous and stable, willing and able to anticipate needs and concerns and so, so helpful.
As long as we have reasons to visit NYC, we will stay nowhere else.
This Upper West side location is good for train access and also a few blocks to shops/restaurants on Columbus or Amsterdam
Architecture & Decor: The building is stunning and beautifully decorated.
Location: Absolutely fantastic— close to shops, two subway stations and very safe neighboor.
The Staff: Everyone was welcoming.
The Mille Feuille Bakery: Having delicious pastries and a proper short espresso right next door was perfect for breakfast.
Cleanliness: All common areas and my room were always clean and smelled wonderful.
Room Observations: Very comfortable bed and good shower pressure. The room was a bit on the small side (typical for historic NYC hotels).
The TV placement was slightly awkward as it wasn't directly in front of the bed.
A Tip for Future Guests: The Walking Tour
I highly recommend the walking tour with Patrick—it was excellent! However, there was a bit of a communication gap regarding registration: the lady at the reception told me I didn’t need to sign up in advance.
On the day after, the guide was surprised I hadn’t registered, and there seemed to be a misunderstanding between the hotel and the tour company.
Advice: Even if you're told it isn't necessary, sign up in advance just to be safe.
Really wonderful experience at the Hotel Belleclaire for a family of 4 with two kids. The morning pastries and coffee was just delightful from the Cafe Millie. The lobby was cozy and a nice place to rest between activities. We LOVED the Streetwise walking tour that left right from our hotel lobby and learned a lot about NYC. Location was fabulous and the hotel was just perfect!
Edward was a really nice and kind guy! He helped us with our suitcases and made our day better. With funny jokes and a positive attitude he brightened our whole last day! So thank you Edward and See you soon ;) We are definetly coming back !!
Location is perfect . Historic building from 1903 all the rooms renovated.
The hotel is sublime! The hotel is historic and romantic. The team there is warm and wonderful, especially Edward at the front desk. In addition, Shanise and Naomi made our stay epic! The hotel is in the heart of the upper West End right next to Central Park. There is a charming and delicious French bakery on the first level. The rooms are beautiful and perfectly appointed. We will definitely be coming back!
Excellent hotel. Very convenient location by foot or public transportation.
The hotel is clean and the rooms are nicely decorated.
Personnel very polite and helpful, especially dear Maria.
Extremely receptive to special requests.
Highly recommended. I sure will be back.
We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Belleclaire. The breakfasts at Mille Feuille were awesome. Especially Edward, the Portier of the hotel, made us feel coming home
We were very pleased with our stay at the Belleclaire. The staff was very friendly and professional and the location excellent. There is a nice breakfast option at Mille Feuille and the evening bar at Allure is very congenial. Highly recommend.
Great accommodations for a family of four trip to visit NYC college campuses and the city. We got a great discount rate for a spacious two bedroom one bath corner suite with ample accommodations; sleeping, sitting, with a mini-fridge, and microwave. We loved the views of the city and the Hudson River. The hotel was beautiful and is close to many attractions, restaurants, groceries, wine vendors, subway and other modes of transportation. The hotel and cafe were great, staff were friendly and service was quick. The hotel stay was a big part to our lasting fond memories of our trip and we hope to return soon.
Charming hotel on the upper west side with a great continental vibe. Such a nice change from the standard chain experience. Everything is very clean, the bed was very comfortable, single queen room was quiet for sleeping. Front desk and bell staff were friendly and helpful. Mille Feuille bakery is awesome! There is a lot within walking distance. Serafina restaurant across the street was great. If you're okay with walking a mile or so, Museum Mile and 5th Avenue is a nice trip through Central Park. Museum of Natural history is close by. Only 2 blocks from the 79th street subway stop on the 1 train. A great NYC getaway!
This place is great. Everything from the start to finish was handled in the way to make you feel taken care of. But Naomi at the front desk won my heart and made this entire visit one of the best! Thank you guys, i will be back.
I come to New York for work a lot, stayed here for the first time. The building itself is beautiful, the staff was really helpful and proactive, with a great attitude. Room was really clean, quiet, comfortable, the breakfast cafe downstairs was great too. Really good experience overall.
A perfect stay at the Belleclaire Hotel in this historic building next to Central Park. Great location, cozy, clean, and quiet rooms.
The staff was very friendly, helpful, and cheerful. Really good value for money.
One minor drawback is the breakfast, which is run by a bakery and differs from the traditional buffet format. The food is excellent, but there’s less variety, and it can get quite crowded in the morning.
The same goes for the shower system, which is attached to the wall and cannot be moved—this might come as a surprise to Europeans! But super shower products!
Overall, I highly recommend staying here.
This was my second stay and it was as wonderful as the first. The location is perfect - so much in the area without the craziness of downtown. Great connections to public transport. The rooms are incredibly clean and pleasantly decorated. The mattresses are comfortable and the bedding spotless. Staff is so kind and patient while at the same time efficient and very professional. I especially appreciated the kindness and helpfulness of the bell men and doormen. Breakfast is covered at the wonderful French Bakery off the lobby which also has excellent coffee drinks. I took the free walking tour of the Upper West Side and Central Park and loved it. Want to do the walking tours from their other properties. I' m looking forward to more stays at the Hotel Belleclaire.
Another week staying at the Hotel Belleclaire, another satisfying experience. For location, comfort, price, and most of all, a genuinely caring staff, Hotel Belleclaire remains my faovirte in New York City.
Lovely hotel. Very clean and super friendly staff
We love staying at Hotel Belleclaire. The service is great, the room is comfortable, and the location is top-notch. It has a luxurious entryway with a doorman, and the bakery is wonderful.
We were too busy this trip to fit in the included walking tours, but we loved having the option. It’s a great value, and I highly recommend it for a family-stay.
This is THE place we stay every time we come back to NY- a warm and welcoming place of comfort that always makes us feel right at home. Arriving at Penn Station, we are just a quick subway ride to our favorite Manhattan neighborhood on the Upper West Side. We love the neighborhood feel and the Belleclaire blends right into the landscape of bookstores, food shops (Zabars!!) and great restaurants right down the street. All of this, is a 10 convenient minute subway ride from Times Square. I love the extra touches at the Belleclaire. The coupon for the incredible French pâtisserie in the lobby gives us a high quality breakfast was we head out for he day. The staff is always so welcoming and helpful in every way- going the extra yard for comfort and convenience. I can't wait to come back- and will be doing that very soon!!!
