Nothing went well

Cons:

Rooms were dirty; carpet was filthy and worn out, bath tub finish was chipped, there were no spare outlets for plugging in electronics and there was no air conditioning. Wait staff at dinner were rude, food portions were small and overpriced. This hotel should have been rated 1 star as opposed to 5 stars

Ok but ruined by unfriendly staff

The palace was beautiful and was a great experience.
The restaurant was beautiful except the scallops which were bland.

Cons:

The staff need to go to hospitality school. They look like they don't want to be there and you are an inconvenience to them.
Maybe it was because we speak English only as they were friendlier to other guests speaking in Portuguese or Spanish.
Its a 5 star hotel but the staff dont treat you like a 5 star guest.
The room was basic and could be better decorated.

Pros:

Heel mooi en bijzonder gebouw. Leuk om hier een nacht te verblijven.

Cons:

De kamer was eenvoudig, het onderhoud was slecht maar dat viel in bet niet bij het verder spectaculaire gebouw. Bij het diner viel op zeer negatieve wijze de prijzen van de wijnen op. Exorbitant ! Ook de houding van de mannen van de bediening was niet erg prettig.

Camas antigas com colchões duros, quartos sem ar condicionado muito quentes de verão, chão de madeira que rangia ao pisarmos, pouco oferta de comida no restaurante do hotel, o que nos obrigar a sair e procurar outro local para jantar.

Ein unglaubliches Hotel das in seiner Architektur einzigartig ist.
Das Foyer ist wunderschön und zeigt eine Epoche, die uns über die Kreativität und das können von Handwerkern und Architekten staunen lässt.
Der Speisesaal ist ebenfalls sehr feudal und sehenswert.

Ein Haus von beeindruckender Architektur, mit viel Charme und einer unverwechselbaren Ausstrahlung. Umso bedauerlicher ist es, dass Glanz und Einzigartigkeit dieses Hotels nicht in allen Bereichen unseren Erwartungen gerecht wurde.

Das Zimmer und seine Ausstattung

Unser Zimmer befand sich in einem Seitenflügel im zweiten Obergeschoss und präsentierte sich insgesamt eher schlicht und hat nur wenige Steckdosen.
Leider war das Zimmer, als wir gegen 19 Uhr ankamen, nicht für uns vorbereitet und wir mussten wieder zurück zur Hotellobby.

Das Badezimmer stammte offensichtlich aus den 1960er-Jahren und war grundsätzlich in Ordnung. Allerdings lief beim Duschen Wasser über den Wannenrand und die Duschabtrennung auf den Boden, sodass sich innerhalb kurzer Zeit eine größere Wasserpfütze bildete. Auch der kunstvoll um die Armatur gewickelte Duschschlauch der Handbrause wirkte wenig stilvoll und passte nicht zum gehobenen Anspruch des Hauses.

Die Betten waren ebenfalls enttäuschend. Die Matratzen waren derart unbequem, dass sich die einzelnen Stahlfedern im Laufe der Nacht unangenehm bemerkbar machten und den Schlaf erheblich beeinträchtigten.

Auch Teppiche, Vorhänge und insbesondere die Fenster haben ihre besten Zeiten offensichtlich hinter sich. Hier besteht aus unserer Sicht dringender Handlungsbedarf.
Gerade die Fenster sollten zeitnah erneuert bzw. überarbeitet werden, denn der Zustand dieser Ausstattung wird dem architektonischen Anspruch und der besonderen Atmosphäre des Hauses nicht gerecht.

Das Frühstück und die Kleideretikette

Auch das Frühstück blieb hinter unseren Erwartungen zurück. Das Angebot wirkte eher konventionell, und die Marmeladen waren derart süß, dass der eigentliche Fruchtgeschmack kaum noch wahrnehmbar war.

Besonders irritierend empfanden wir allerdings die sehr unterschiedlichen Vorstellungen von angemessener Kleidung beim Frühstück.

Spectacular setting in a castle. We spent our honeymoon here 30 years ago and had to return. Dinner was excellent. I saw a rating of 3.8. I would give it 5.0. They had great service, and the menu was excellent. Beautiful presentation as well. The breakfast buffet was also very generous and with high end ingredients like smoked salmon. Champagne was available if you wanted as well.
The hiking trails were right outside the door. Loved the Via Sacra with the stations if the cross all the way up the mountain.

Cons:

The room was quite a bit smaller than the one we had last time, but I think the larger rooms were booked for the national holiday early on.

One of the places I will never forget.
Pros:

Felt like royalty staying in this breathtakingly beautiful palace in the centre of Portugal’s National Bucasso Forest. Amazing historical experience- and stunning walks through the forest complete with unique historical buildings from 16th C. Great food in fabulous dining ballroom.
