Difficult access to the town centre, noisy air con and uncontrollable room temperature.
Pros:

The staff were polite and helpful. The décor of the bedroom was cosy and comfortable and a good size. The impression was one of a clean, well-run hotel.

Cons:

For starters, access to the hotel is only via one side of a dual carriageway. The back of the hotel fronts onto a canal and the only way to walk to the town centre is over a short muddy track which leads to a paved path laid down along the side of the adjacent retail store. Then, there is a large car park to negotiate, followed by a busy fenced carriageway for buses. The alternative was a sequence of roads to negotiate via a number of Pelican Crossings a little distance away and in the opposite direction from the town centre. So, it's a bit of an assault course to reach the shops, bars and restaurants. Obviously, that isn't the fault of the hotel but it is something to bear in mind.

The initial impression of the room was highly favourable but later it was discovered that the air conditioning was extremely noisy and the rattling noise it made was quite irritating and distracting, if I wasn't so tired, I don't think I would have slept a wink; the lights in the room were restricted to those by the bedside and a strange metallic design in the corner of the room. It wasn't bright enough in the room to read; The room temperature device could not be altered so remained at an extremely warm 27.5 degrees Celsius was uncomfortable; the 'double' bed was two single beds put together and quite small.

Finally, Mercure is one of those hotels which insists on a deposit from a debit/credit card as you go through the security process, in this case £50. I found this annoying, particularly as the mini-fridge was empty.

Perfect stay, super clean hotel and the staff were amazing and very friendly.
Pros:

A great location and easy to find. Stayed here with my sister for the weekend and we both remarked on how lovely and spotlessly clean the hotel was. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice from a full english to a continental, i chose continental and there was so much to choose from.
A perfect hotel with super friendly staff, i couldn't have asked for more.

Cons:

The only thing i would say here is, although its not a didn't like, was it would be good if they provided conditioner along with the shampoo and body wash in the bathroom.
Also a couple more large towels would have been good, but apart from that it was all perfect.
