Amazing staff, great hotel.
Pros:

Our first stay here, it was fabulous. Amazing, helpful staff from the moment we arrived. The concierge parked our car and took our luggage to the room. The room was ready so we checked in early. Lovely 'Spledid' room. We opted for air con which was very efficient. Cocktails before dinner, dinner in the Vaults and a delicious breakfast we're all five star. Attention to detail was evident. Only down side was that our shower tray was a bit slippery and quite a step down, we'll bring a non slip bath mat next time. If you're parking there, it's easiest to pull up in front of the hotel and tell reception you've arrived, they'll arrange to park it for you. We'll be back soon.

Insulted our elderly grandfather - shocking
Pros:

Came in with our grandparents for a birthday drink. Busy night, fine, but the service was poor. When we mentioned this on our way out, the manager got defensive and called our elderly grandfather a “knobhead.”

Absolutely disgraceful behaviour from someone in that position. Left feeling shocked and insulted. Won’t be returning.

TOM SLEGG - DISGRACEFUL MANAGER
Pros:

TOM SLEGG: APPALLING MANAGER

We came with our grandparents to celebrate a birthday and tried to have a drink. It was busy, which we understood, but the service was extremely disappointing.

As we were leaving, the manager, Tom Slegg, confronted us and asked why we were unhappy. We calmly explained that the service had been poor. His response was disgraceful, he took it personally and called our elderly grandfather a “knobhead.”

What kind of manager speaks to an elderly customer like that? Completely arrogant, rude and unprofessional. We came to celebrate a birthday and instead left feeling shocked and disgusted.

The poor service was one thing, but Tom Slegg’s attitude was something else entirely. And that Cheshire Cat smile followed us all the way down Angel Hill. We will never return.

A wonderful stay.
Pros:

Bury St Edmunds is beautiful town and I thought the hotel was equally as nice. Perfectly positioned in the heart of town.
The service was exceptional, from checking in, the bar staff, the restaurant staff and the concierge.
The cocktails were very nice and I particularly enjoyed the spicy margaritas.. The food in the restaurant was great. My only gripe ,being a vegetarian was that there wasn't as many options as I would have liked . But what I did have was very pleasant.
Our room was clean, comfortable and had all the amenities you would expect .
Parking was very easy too, leaving the car outside in the main square and dropping the keys to the concierge who move it if it needs to be moved.
All in all a thoroughly enjoyable stay . I'm sure we will be back at somepoint.
Thanks to all the smiling staff that made us feel very welcome.

Another lovely experience
Pros:

We’re local to the hotel and love Bury as a classy town and nice feel. We love the Angel as a base. Rooms are always clean and well presented. The bar and restaurant are well appointed. A big plus is the onsite free parking but probably the biggest asset is the staff. This might seem an odd comment but they are all able to hold a conversation with you. They’re smiling, pleasant and professional and really put the icing on the cake. Room prices are tip top but in general a lovely experience

Disappointed
Pros:

Very good location & public areas .
Drab small room .
No bath , no fridge , no luggage rack & lack of plug sockets at bedside .
Excellent waitress staff for coffee etc
Wonderful bar staff
Non attentive reception staff —too busy conversing among themselves .
Help with parking my car away from main hotel but nobody available to help on departure .
Overall poor value compared with other UK hotels of the same grade

An Unforgettable First Stay in England
Pros:

When I first saw The Angel Hotel, I was so relieved that it looked exactly like the pictures online! This was my first trip abroad and the beginning of my new life as a full-time solo traveler. My very first hotel in England was a wonderful start to this new chapter, and The Angel Hotel was absolutely perfect in every way.

My room (not in the main hotel building) overlooked this quiet courtyard. It was peaceful and relaxing, with a wonderful comfy bed, soft, thick towels, delicious food, and excellent room service. This hotel was the perfect place to begin an unforgettable journey, and I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience in England.
