Pros:

Cons:

Great location, friendly staff, but overpriced and tired rooms
Pros:

We stayed at Elk + Avenue for three nights in a standard two queen bed room. While the hotel has several positives, we were ultimately underwhelmed by the standard of our room.

The hotel’s biggest strengths are its excellent central location in Banff, attractive public areas, good restaurant, shop and coffee shop, convenient guest laundry facilities, and friendly, helpful staff. The room itself was clean, and the bed was large and comfortable. It was also useful to have tea and coffee-making facilities and a fridge, although unfortunately the fridge seemed to freeze everything we stored in it.

Unfortunately, the room felt quite tired and in need of refurbishment. One of the window blinds did not work properly, and the blinds in general did not fully block out the light, the bathroom needed attention: the tap was loose, the door would not stay closed and had signs of water damage, and there was very limited storage. The towel holders were just two small hooks, meaning the towels repeatedly fell off and ended up in the bin.

There were no convenient power sockets near the bed, so we had to unplug the phone and alarm clock to charge devices. Despite having two beds, there was only one simple bedside table, which felt basic and impractical. The hairdryer was also disappointing, with only one heat setting, and it became so hot that it felt as though it was burning my hair.

The coffee machine was another frustration, as the capsules frequently became jammed and did not always work. The furniture throughout the room was functional but some was very basic, and we were surprised there was no in-room safe.

There was no ceiling fan as described on the website and the air conditioning unit was also an issue. It rattled loudly and, being positioned directly above the bed, blew very cold air straight down onto the person sleeping underneath it, which was very unpleasant.

Overall, the hotel’s location, facilities and staff are excellent, but the room we had did not match those strengths. With some refurbishment and better attention to maintenance and room details, Elk + Avenue could provide a much improved guest experience. As this time (mid July), the advertised rate for the standard room is over CAD $650 per night, including taxes, but the room does not feel reflective of the price paid and fell short of our expectations.

Disappointing room service
Pros:

Disappointing room service seems like because we were only there for 2 nights no fresh towels or bathroom cleaning!

Will stay somewhere else. Front desk check in were pricks.
Pros:

Great location nice rooms and beds

Cons:

Front desk treated us like 2nd class people. They were busy but don’t judge a book by its cover is what I’d recommend. Day staff was great

No housekeeping, then hit with fees and unreachable staff
Pros:

Extremely disappointing experience and would not recommend booking directly with this hotel. Between the missed housekeeping, the surprise charges, and the complete lack of response from management, this property feels poorly run from top to bottom.

We stayed 2 nights (July 9–11, 2026) and the room was never serviced by housekeeping—we only found out on our second evening, after calling down ourselves, that there's now an opt-in policy requiring guests to request cleaning. This was never mentioned at check-in or in our booking confirmation, so we just went without service for two days without knowing why.

We checked out at 10am on July 11, a full hour before the 11am checkout time, and no one raised any concerns about the room. We even stayed on for brunch at the on-site restaurant afterward. Then at 10:17pm that same night—almost 12 hours after we'd left—we got an email saying the room needed "excessive cleaning" and a $50+ fee had already been charged to our card, along with a video that didn't reflect the condition we left the room in. Nothing was damaged or missing, and our minibar wasn't even touched.

A separate unexplained $21 charge also appeared on our card after departure, with no notice or itemization at all.

We've called the hotel repeatedly, including a call lasting over an hour, trying to reach the General Manager, Housekeeping Manager, and Front Desk Supervisor. No one has called us back, and each department just redirects us to another, with nobody willing to take ownership of the issue. That alone tells you what to expect if anything goes wrong during your stay.

Having your card on file shouldn't mean charges can be added after you've left with no warning and no way to dispute them in person. Book through a third party if you want any real protection from this.

Hotel centraal gelegen in centrum van Banff
Pros:

Ligging hotel is grote plus punt.

Cons:

Great base for exploring Banff
Pros:

Stayed here solo and had a great experience. Great location, easy walk into town. Rooms were clean and a good size. The on-site restaurant was handy for solo dinners without any hassle.

Only downsides: like all of Banff, it’s pricey, and it can get a bit noisy at times. Otherwise, would happily stay again.

Good Clean and Centrally located hotel
Pros:

This hotel was booked by the tour operator as part of our tour. The Hotel is very well located in the heart of Banff.
The reception is very welcoming and the staff are very courteous and pleasant.
The rooms are very clean and spacious. The room is well equipped with coffee machine, Mini fridge and Microwave. Also good toiletries and towels provided. Washroom and shower are clean and well maintained.
There is a restaurant which has good rating in the hotel next to the lobby, however we did not eat there.
Great place for a family or group stay as everything you need including purchasing tours are within walking distance.
Would definitely recommend this hotel.
