The food, the craic, the music, the hotel itself is alway amazing at the abbeyglen. We always have a brilliant time when we are here.

Love this castle! The food and staff were amazing. I’d stay here again!
Nothing
Everything felt like a dream. The surroundings are beautiful.
The food was very good.
In all the experience of staying there was wonderful for us all.
We were five and would all highly recommend staying there :)
From the moment we arrived, the welcome we received from the staff and throughout our stay nothing seemed to be a problem. This family run hotel is a gem.
From beginning to end the experience was incredible. The greeting of the African grey parrot, to the decor of reception, to the drinks served on the patio, it just felt oldie worldie,
Our rooms were spotless and the quality of the bedding was very there to see, I loved the old style meets modern feel of the place,
The food was top rate, the wines excellent, the portions huge, the staff could not do enough for you,
The abbey glen team really have their game covered
Staying at Abbeyglen Castle was the highlight of my trip to Ireland! My room was charming - and accessible for my wheelchair. I loved the history talk in the bar before dinner. I'd stay here again!
I was staying in another hotel in Clifden with my mother. We had heard a lot of positive things about this hotel, so we decided to visit for afternoon tea and scones. It wasn't busy. Despite this, we felt instantly unwelcome, like uninvited guests at a funeral who might have been there to steal the silver. The owners/managers seemed to be busy playing up to guests who were staying there-which is fine-but we were also guests. Did I imagine the side-eyes from them to us?! In terms of service, we were positively neglected, having to keep asking for things that hadn't arrived like napkins and milk for the tea! The price for tea (with no offer of top-ups) and tiny, unmemorable scones was ludicrous. If the hotel has a policy that outside guests are not welcome, they should put up a sign to that effect rather than vibing people out. This place gets great reviews, and if I was in that parallel universe of our fellow guests in that same room being charmed and regaled (and fed properly!) by the owners, I would be writing a terrific review. Instead, I'm not. It's very short-sighted of business owners to get someone in their door for small business (tea and scones) and treat them as one-off passing trade rather than having potential to recommend to others, repeat their visit, holiday or celebrate a wedding or birthday. (As an aside, my pal was looking at wedding venues in Dublin a few years ago. Accompanying him to a potential venue, I used the toilets. On a quiet Sunday, the ladies' toilets were dirty with paper strewn all over the booths and floor. Neither he nor his now-husband had thought to check this. Based on my observations, they went elsewhere for their wedding.) When all goes well, guests will overlook the dust and age in a venue, even find it charming. When you feel like an intruder, the dust, etc. becomes a further reason to find fault. People will always go there because they want to stay in a castle and because of the glowing reviews. I'll forever avoid the place and advise readers to do the same.
It was unique in its architecture and decor . A warm cozy
feel . Beautiful grounds . We had enjoyable dining evening with great food to a birthday celebration. And we had fun afterwards in the pub.

Fantastisk stemning og vidunderlig aften med musik og sang.
We wanted to spend a night in a castle in Ireland (doesn’t everyone?) and had done a lot of research. Many castles were very high priced, others were already reserved many months out, or not on our itinerary. The AbbeyGlen is only 200 years old and built by an industrialist. It does possess the requisite stone and woodwork to make for a unique stay. We really did enjoy this out of the norm experience. On the lower end, a small room complete with prosecco toast, gourmet (subjective) dinner, and breakfast was €400.
One negative was the arrival of a Trafalgar Tour bus spilling 50 individuals into our idyll. I know, who am I to complain…
The second negative was that it had been a sunny day and our room was very hot/stuffy and remained so for the night. Windows in heavy wood frames wouldn’t open, sign in room said, “don’t try” we asked staff and was told no and no fans. Next morning complained and different staff showed how to open the window. So we sweltered a bit. Small matter. The world turned and the adventure continued. But, we would ask the management to please clarify this for future guests. It’s okay to be hot, but to find out later that you didn’t need to… So, 4 out of 5 stars. Still a very unique and enjoyable experience.
Otherwise, all staff really worked hard, particularly to ensure that everyone in the dining room (especially us in two tops on the perimeter around big tour group tables) were given equal attention - Big Thanks.
Large room. Large bath. Nice public spaces. Close to but out of town. Friendly proprietor. Excellent breakfast.
