Very good.
Pros:

Breakfast and location were fine.
Breakfast more than substantial and included from a full English to a continental.

Cons:

The only thing we missed was a mirror in the bedroom. The lack of a full length mirror was disappointing especially as we were getting dressed for an evening event.
Also the lack of power sockets. Two ladies needed to charge telephones, use a hair dryer and straightener to get ready and there was only one socket.
Otherwise the room was very comfortable, lovely bed and very relaxed and peaceful.

Disappointing
Pros:

Disappointing experience in this faded lovely old hall with its history.
Despite advertising as dog friendly we were moved to a room in the 'courtyard' which had paper thin walls and no door closers resulting in a very noisy, restless couple of nights.
Dogs are very restricted in the house itself and access to the grounds was limited to the lawn for everyone due to fenced off areas and garden rubbish piled up to stop anyone exploring the grounds.
The beds were comfy, the shower was good and the dog got a welcome chew and treats but at £15.00 per night it felt like a basic gesture.
We really didn't get to experience the beautiful potential of this hotel.

Average nights stay
Pros:

As you arrive you are greeted by a magnificent, impressive looking country hotel.
At check-in the lady on reception was extremely welcoming and asked us several times if we needed anything. The room was situated in the court yard area (second floor) our room was clean but tired, cracks in paint and in need of a face lift, the room was very stuffy with just a fan to cool it down. The bed was very comfortable we both slept really well. The shower over the bath ran away extremely slowly so possibly the water pressures not up to much!
Overall for a 1 night stay it was adequate.
Had evening meal in the room adjacent to reception this was lovely but pricey! The breakfast was DIRE to say the least, lukewarm and not very good quality. The sausages were very tough and difficult to cut.

Very good stay, very comfortable bed, delightful and very helpful staff.
Pros:

Breakfast good, however, my room rate was not ‘Breakfast included’ but a friend also staying and paying less ‘was included’. ??
Location of Hotel excellent.

Cons:

No separate shower, bath shower attachment taps didn’t run well. Water extremely hot and difficult to control hot and cold mix.

Fabulous location
Pros:

We chose Makeney Hall purely for its location, which was perfect. The room was big and the facilities good. Great that there is a lift!

Cons:

Slightly faded glory, but perfectly adequate.

Very disappointing, tired hotel fading rapidly- staff were mostly pleasant. Breakfast was ok.
Pros:

Nice “old” building some part looked after, some neglected

Cons:

Paid for dog, no bed or treats provided- but promised. Courtyard rooms need a lot of tlc - as does most of the hotel; very average at best and that’s being generous.

Manager stepped in twice.
Pros:

The room I was allocated was sub-standard, the final straw being the curtain rail collapsing. On contacting reception the Manager very quickly upgraded my room to the Bridal Suite, with a complimentary glass of wine and complimentary breakfast, it took the edge off the issues. Same manager who had witnessed the drama upon arrival.

Cons:

Within five minutes of arrival it became apparent the female receptionist was perturbed that Booking.com held my card details when she didn't. Payment of my room was demanded immediately, along with a request that my card details were held?!!? Thankfully the Manager was on hand and assured me the remainder of my bill could be paid as I go. She left a very bad taste in the mouth.
