Good with great potential.
Pros:

Attractive hotel in a convenient location. Rooms are nicely styled and the staff were warm and welcoming. The grounds are pleasant and there’s a spa (although I did not use it). Cracking spot for a traditional cream tea.

Cons:

It’s a case of meeting expectations, and for the price I found the hotel did not quite live up to mine. The room we had, had noisy plumbing / pipes and the pre-ordered newspaper never materialised due to a “miss-hap.” None of this is major but took a little shine away from the overall experience.

Comfortable stay
Pros:

Upgraded to larger room. I only had toast and tea and a pain au chocolat for breakfast but it was very nice. Close to where I needed to be for work so excellent location for me. Also enjoyed a walk in the gardens which was very quiet and pleasant.

Our stay was made so very special by the staff. The room service was excellent, and everyone went more than the extra mile to help. The hotel is incredible, with loads of interesting and beautiful period features. The communal areas (lounge/drawing room, dining room, etc) are stunning. The grounds and gardens are wonderful. Our rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable with facilities and that other hotels would not have even thought of.

Good sized car park and loading/unloaded pull-in in front of the hotel entrance so handy if one has a lot of luggage. And the porters are in hand to help.

We were only there for two nights and were too busy to take full advantage of the facilities and services on offer, but we will try to stay again in the future.

Cons:

We liked everything and couldn't find fault.

Wonderful last minute stay in a beautiful historic house.
Pros:

The location was perfect for York Races. The house is beautiful and the refurbishment back in the 80’s are sympathetic to the main house. Gardens are beautiful.

Relaxing, garden environment with historic building and yet easy access to central York.
Pros:

Beautiful setting in superb gardens. Very friendly resident cat. Excellent breakfasts in lovely setting. Location about 3km from central York was fine. We made the return journey 3 times, once by Uber, once by bus (very convenient) and once on foot. All very easy. We had dinner in one night and enjoyed it very much.

Cons:

Spa was good but closed for repairs one day and a little hard to navigate the system. Indoor pool was good but small of course.
