The character of the building …
It felt a little tired
Lovely hotel, spa ok, breakfast excellent, great location, evening meal at Noel sister hotel excellent, fabulous curry’s. Would definitely book again l, superior room very good only comment room was a bit warm at night and lights a bit fiddily
Room was a little warm
We walked into town and were so relieved to be welcomed by the charming hotel. Great night of sleep followed by an incredible breakfast. The staff were all wonderful. Hope to stay again one day!
Dinner AND breakfast excellent. Very good menu, service, etc
The fact that we had to climb TWO flights of stairs to the bedroom and then to find a free-standing bath that we could not access - I am aged 90 and my wife - who's birthday it was, is 78 ( we had expected a separate bathroom with bath and shower.....)

Location
We were not told by Booking.com nor the hotel that the spa was under refurbishment. I would have selected a different hotel which COULD provide this for our stay, having travelled hundreds of miles

The Front Desk staff were excellent ...the bedroom very comfortable with lovely linen. Most of the wait staff at the breakfast room were courteous and efficient.
Had a scrumptious dinner at the nearby Italian restaurant.
As in life, some staff were better than others.

Nice bed and bathroom facilities
Firstly, when we arrived, we went to the bar as we were meeting friends for a drink. There was no one around to serve us, and we had to ask for someone to come over and take our order. Once ordered, the drinks also took a considerable amount of time to arrive.
The following morning was even more disappointing. I needed to leave the hotel at around 8:30am, so I had specifically asked what time breakfast was available and requested 7:30am to give myself plenty of time. I was advised that the earliest breakfast could be served was 8:00am, which was fair enough, and I thought 30 minutes would still be sufficient to have something to eat before leaving.
Initially, we were among the first guests to arrive for breakfast, and a small selection of juice, granola and similar items was available to help ourselves to. However, it took around 10 minutes before a waitress came over to provide a menu and take our order for coffee, tea and toast.
At this point, more and more guests were arriving, and 25 minutes had now passed without our coffee or toast arriving. We still hadn’t even been able to order our cooked breakfast. Given the price point of the hotel, I was particularly surprised by this. The coffee was basic filter/press coffee, so I would have expected this to be very quick to prepare and serve.
Unfortunately, with the time approaching when I needed to leave, we had no choice but to abandon breakfast altogether. This was extremely disappointing, particularly given that this is not an inexpensive hotel and you would expect a much higher standard of service.
The issues weren’t really about the hotel being busy; they were about a lack of organisation and attentiveness. We were given an 8:00am breakfast time knowing that we needed to leave at 8:30am, yet the service was nowhere near quick enough to make that possible. Overall, the experience fell well below what I would expect for a hotel at this price point.
