Nice updated bathroom and great shower with beautiful large towels. Liked the homemade shortbread cookies, and high quality tea and coffee in the room and magazines. Quality of bedding was good.
Service was highly uneven ; While some staff such as Claire! were wonderful and super helpful, other staff were not helpful and didn’t clearly explain how to use the safe or close the window shade’s electronically which even they said were a bit complicated, & many people have had issues with. The first night’s staff asked us if we wanted turndown service which includes cookies and water and even though we said yes no one came.even after we called at 9 and they said they were coming. The safe was tiny and not useful- it was too small for an iPad and it was not big enough to put in a normal size laptop for working travelers. Room decor colors feel a little dated given the high room cost.
The Old Parsonage is a perfect blend of luxurious comfort and authentic charm. Our rooms had everything we needed and I especially appreciated the shades that keep the rooms dark, the walls that keep them quiet, and the A/C that keeps them cool. Breakfasts are excellent and we loved having a snack or a meal on the lovely terrace. But the thing that really makes this hotel stand out is the staff, especially Andrea :) I don't think we've ever felt so genuinely welcomed and taken care of.
A couple of things to be aware of: There are lots of narrow stairs and no elevator (see: authentic charm), though the aforementioned awesome staff is happy to help with luggage. And the location is slightly removed from the center of town. For us, this was a plus since we liked getting away from the bustle, and we loved being near the charming neighborhood of Jericho. And you can always hop on a bus. Speaking of which, there's a bus stop right next to the hotel for the bus to Blenheim Palace, which was super convenient.
We ate at the sister restaurants, Gee's and Quod, which were excellent. In Jericho, we liked Branca and Brasserie Blanc. We were also well-located for walks that were longer but well worth it to the Cherwell Boathouse and The Perch. If you go during high tourist season, definitely make reservations!
Le charme et romantisme de l’endroit ainsi que l’accueil et le confort des chambres
Le restaurant n’est pas à la hauteur de son cadre
L’authenticité du lieu, la gentillesse du personnel et la qualité des services
J’ai tout aimé
As usual, our stay at the Old Parsonage was top-notch. I cannot emphasize enough how amazing the staff is; from check-in to the restaurant, to housekeeping - everyone is warm, helpful, intuitive. and professional. It is truly the main reason we continue to stay there. The atmosphere is quintessentially Oxford, yet modern enough to not feel antiquated. The warmth and charm of the hotel is unmatched in Oxford.
I had a wonderful time at this hotel over the course of my four day stay. The location is convenient to central Oxford with the walkable proximity to restaurants and to all the colleges available for sightseeing.
The hotel blends the vintage with modern English style. My room was comfortable, although was not cleaned adequately and left me with someone else's clothing.
For a hotel in this price range, the cost is generally reasonable. The expensive accommodations are justified with the quality and the great restaurant located in the hotel. The hotel is generally quiet, and the thin walls do not allow for much privacy when it is occupied.
I received excellent service. The staff were warm, kind, and helpful and the in room tea and coffee station and mini fridges are appreciated.
The one incident with the first night's housekeeping was the one downfall to a stay I enjoyed and would recommend to anyone coming to visit Oxford.
Gebäude, Deko, Betten.
In room breakfast nicht gut. Hälfte vergessen. BUFFET TOTAL ÜBERTEUERT.
Really good experience, although the missing fifth star is that it is very expensive. But great to be in the centre and to be ab le to park the car. The staff were excellent; and there were little touches that reminded us of the days when hotels had character.
Our room was good. Not as large as we would have liked, but still very good. The Old Parsonage is "old" and the stairways are a bit tough to navigate, but I guess this adds to the charm.
The stairs.
Location was excellent.
Staff weren't very helpful which caused confusion over additional charges for breakfast.
Also a gratuity was included on final bill which is unusual for a hotel. We did get it removed once we complained about service.
the quality and variety of the menus
the stairs!!
Food was amazing. Staff were hugely helpful and courteous.
I could have been told about the congestion charge. I had no idea it would apply and I think I will get fined.
Beautiful, old and old hotel, tastefully decorated. Very comfortable rooms and lovely food. The location is central with parking (so hard to find in Oxford!). It is one of my favourite hotels.
I was disappointed with the booking process which involved me calling the hotel several times for them only to get the reservation wrong (with the table booking). We had booked out 5 double rooms and spent a lot of money so I was disappointed they did not ring me to suggest we book an outside table for our evening reservation (the weather was unseasonably warm and perfect for Al Fresco dining)
After I insisted they found a table for us.
Finally, I made it clear at least twice that we were celebrating with the family our son's 40th birthday. It would have added the finishing touch if the restaurant had brought a token birthday pudding/ cake. In other words, the attention to detail was lacking.
