Very, very disappointed not what I expected from what was once Chester’s most prestigious hotel.
Pros:

Traditional central hotel, staff very polite and courteous.

Cons:

Room 322 is a drab little room on the side of the main building. Furnished with a hotch potch of miss matched furniture, it looked as if it had been furnished by a charity shop. The previous occupant had left lint on the carpets which was still there when I left so obviously hadn’t been hoovered prior or during my stay.
The reception rooms whilst dated, gave an air of elegance to this hotel whilst trading on its past reputation. The chandelier used in the publicity material is very dirty, and looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned or polished for decades.
The breakfast food is at best average not at all as I expected, and I cancelled further breakfasts after the first day. The final straw was a mouldy yogurt served as part of my continental breakfast. Within date, but mouldy, beyond the hotels control ?, or simply bad storage ?. I don’t know which, but was certainly not what I expected from a five star hotel.
If my room (322) is a representative sample, The hotel is desperately in need of an urgent major refurbishment programme and most certainly not worth the current price !.

Pros:

Such a wonderful hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful. The doorman couldn't have been more welcoming, what an asset he is to your hotel. Breakfast was delightful, great selection, everything we ordered was delicious. Our rooms were spacious, huge bed. For an older building your shower pressure abd temperature was incredible!

Cons:

Nothing at all. Wish we had stayed longer.
