Mixed experience with service and expectations unmet

The location was great — we were able to explore Monterey on foot. We also enjoyed the breakfast and the wine-and-cheese evening. The bathroom in our room was good.

Cons:

The biggest issue was the front desk staff and the misleading pet fee policy. We arrived at 3:00 PM and politely asked whether our room might be ready. The front desk employee told us it would likely be available within 15–30 minutes and even confirmed my phone number so they could text me when it was ready. Unfortunately, we never received a text and were given the keys exactly at 4:00 PM. If the room was not available before check-in time, that would have been completely understandable, but the communication created expectations that were never addressed. A simple update or apology would have been appreciated.

The pet fee situation was even more disappointing. Before booking, I specifically checked the property’s Q&A section, which stated that the pet fee was $30 per pet. Upon arrival, we were charged $50 instead. When I pointed out that this information was not reflected in the booking details, I was told that it was not her responsibility and that I should have called the hotel or submitted a new question online. As a guest, I found that response frustrating, especially since I had relied on the information provided by the property. I asked whether any accommodation could be made given the discrepancy, but was told no. I then requested to speak with a manager and was informed that they would be available the following morning at 9-10 AM. However, when I returned, I was told the manager was not there.

The room itself was also disappointing. The facilities felt outdated, some outlets were not working, which prevented us from using a lamp and the refrigerator, the balcony door required significant force to open, and the room had a stale smell.

Overall, the inaccurate pet fee information, lack of follow-up, and the way our concerns were handled left us disappointed with the experience. This was not the level of service we expected based on the reviews we had read before booking.

Pros:

Very friendly staff and accommodations were excellent.

Cons:

The first room assigned had a terrible humming noise from something on the roof and I needed to ask the main office for a change of rooms. They changed my room immediately. Very helpful and accommodating staff.

Pros:

Das Zimmer war groß und geräumig mit Kamin und kleinem Balkon. Es gab ein extra Waschbecken zusätzlich zur separaten Toilette mit Dusche.
Zur Happy Hour ab 17Uhr gab es gratis Wein (Chardonnay und Pinot noir) mit sehr leckerem Käse (zwei verschiedene Sorten) und Crackern.
Das Frühstück (auf Porzellangeschirr und "richtiges" Besteck) war in Ordnung, es gab Bagels, Toast, Früchte, Müsli, frische Waffeln, Rührei. Der Kaffee war nicht so doll.
Zum Fishermanswharf läuft man ca 20min.
In Hotelumgebung gibt es diverse Restaurants und takeaways.
Parkhaus im Hotel kostet extra, $19 je Nacht, das wussten wir aber vorher aus den Bewertungen.

Cons:

Im Frühstücksraum war es sehr eng.

Pros:

We had a wonderful stay! The rooms were clean, spacious, and had very comfortable beds. The location was perfect, close to Monterey attractions, restaurants, and the beach. Breakfast was excellent, and there was an afternoon wine and cheese treat. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Would definitely recommend the hotel.

Lovely stay at Victorian Inn
Pros:

Location, easy check in, well priced car parking, lovely atmosphere and friendly staff, nice sized room, overerall cleanliness, loved the free cheese and wine at 5pm!!

Cons:

Shower was pretty inefficient - pressure was really poor. Room didn't smell as fresh as it could (im pretty funny about smells though so others may not notice!)
