Very disappointing service. Spa out of action. Definitely not a luxury boutique experience.
Pros:

Breakfast and dinner were good. Beds are comfortable

Cons:

I booked the VIP cottage for our wedding night and I messaged the hotel to let them know of our special occasion. I have had high teas at Mangapapa several times and was expecting good service. Unfortunately, this time our experience was very disappointing.
There was no acknowledgement whatsoever of our special day on arrival nor during lunch at the restaurant with our 2 witnesses. We asked the waiting staff to take a picture of us and mentioned that we just got married a few hours beforehand. The response was literally " yeah I know". The food was served without making sure there were no food allergies, and only after asking what was served did we get some information about the food on our plates. Dinner service was considerably better, lovely staff that were very attentive. Breakfast was good too.
We booked the accomodation to use the spa, but after check in we were told the spa was broken and wouldn't get fixed that day. We were given a bottle of rose to make up for this. We don't drink alcohol so that did not really make it any better.
In comparison to other hotels I did not find the accommodation anything special. It took 3 staff to get the fireplace in the cottage going. There's no Netflix on the TV in the bedroom. The bed is comfortable enough though.
I really regret that I booked Mangapapa to celebrate our very special day as it really wasn't the special experience that it should have been, and we will never get that day back. We were very close to leaving and going home again as we live only 30 min away. I was tossing up between booking Mangapapa and Craggy Range and I now know I should have chosen Craggy Range instead.

Pros:

Very peaceful and quiet

Cons:

During our three course dinner we ended up being synchronized with the people having the five course dinner which meant we were left waiting a very long time between our courses which sort of spoiled the evening.

Incredible dinner, amazing staff, beautiful rooms and surroundings. Very quiet and relaxing!
Pros:

The food in the restaurant, both for dinner and breakfast were excellent. We also had a cheese board at around 3pm which was great. The staff were lovely and attentive, and the rooms are beautiful.

Cons:

We were really looking forward to using the spa - the photos looked lovely, and I even called ahead in the morning to see if we could use it as guests, or needed to book etc. Unfortunately, dispite knowing we wanted to use it, the spa pool smelled awful and was clearly dirty. We didn't use it and cut short our time in the spa area. The area didn't look like its images - towels lying around, spa cover propped against the wall, and the fountain didn't work. This didn't spoil our stay but we were quite disappointed. When we asked the staff, they said a large group was using the area the day before.

Loved it, easy to get to and would definitely stay again
Pros:

Restaurant for dinner was amazing - lovely intimate dining. Breakfast had a great selection of foods. Staff were very accomodating, personable and attentive.

Cons:

I was disappointed that the building had been changed so much on the face of the house - but thats coming from someone with a love of old buildings so not really applicable to the stay inside.

Not to be missed.
Pros:

James and his team run a wonderful friendly hotel.
On arrival we were offered a free upgrade as staying a couple of days. 3 course dinner was excellent and reasonable price for quality. James would greet every guest in the morning and offer advice to places that they should visit. Hotel has beautiful gardens.

Cons:

Nothing.
