Slaley Hall Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort

The bedroom was very tired and needed some refurbishment. The toiletries in the bathroom consisted only of a wall mounted shower gel. We were on level 1 and there was a lot of noise from the room doors and especially the fire doors. The sofas and chairs in the lounge areas were very worn. We had a long wait (over 30 mins) for a sandwich in the bar area and the sandwich must have been sitting in the kitchen for a while as the upper bread layer of the sandwich was starting to dry out. The pool was okay but the loungers were in need of replacement and there were not many of them. Managed to find a lounger which was next to a small pool where children were playing. Unable to relax and my planned read of my book due to the noise. Not what I had expected from a Spa Hotel.
This was a return visit to this hotel having visited around 12 years ago and this visit did not meet our expectations that we had experienced the last visit.

A few weeks earlier I had asked for early check in at the property this was confirmed via the booking.com chat and would be £30 for 3 hours early which was fine. the day before my booking an email was sent out to request early check in so I thought I would do that too just incase , when I got to the hotel they wouldn’t give us the early check in, we were going to a wedding and o had to get dressed and ready in a toilet , unfortunately this put a real downer on our experience

We couldn’t check in or even have a room sorted to pick a key up later even though they knew a wedding party of 50 odd people would be back after 1pm. All the rooms were different even though we paid the same. We had an old dated room and empty complimentary mini bar. But others who paid the same or less had a nice modern room and a full free mini bar. We had to pay for the spa even though our friends went 15mins before us and never had to pay. It was a lot of money for what we got from it really. And the maids were banging around and knocking on doors very early 8:30/9 so that woke us up after a wedding and left there trolly right outside the door we had to move to get out of our room

The food was ok. For the price we expected more.

Our room wasn't ready for an hour after check in time(4pm) which then impacted on the rest of our stay as you could not access any facilities until you had checked in, other than sitting in the bar.

The spa was run down, the pool was cold and felt like a family pool rather than a relaxing spa. It's great for families with young children but definitely not spa vibes.

The show had no power at all, for such a gorgeous and highly rated hotel, we expected more, especially for how much we payed.

Unclean and horrendously dusty it needs completely deep cleaned, kettles were full of limescale the bath/ shower full of mildew, pillows were beyond uncomfortable. Carpets need cleaned and actually hovered would be an improvement. Headboards on the beds were thick of dust this was across 4 rooms family had booked out

Room was very dusty I had to wipe it all down ( as I am a cleaner in properties ) top of headboard, lights, ceiling covered in cob webs that were blowing with the air con, which I had to turn off. More sugar needed for teas and coffee in room.
