The grounds are gorgeous, the building it self is stunning. The inside on first glance is lovely.
The pool is lovely, water a little cold however you get used to it quite quickly. The poolside bar is nice with variety of drinks and snacks. The young man at that bar is helpful and such a nice young man.
The staff in the restaurant were welcoming and the food was ok.
After the first glance you see how the furniture is old worn and some items such as couches etc torn.
The room itself is very basic and you do not get what you paid for. I booked a class family room, to my knowledge 2 single beds are not 2 double beds or a king size bed! Even if reception tells you it is.
Location and variety of facilities
Nothing
I will definitely be back 😊Can't fault it. I attended a fundraising event in June 2026 and from the moment I checked in at 3pm to the moment I checked out at 11am the next day- the whole experience was flawless. The staff make this experience (Andy and Jack in the bar are the best). The day i was here, there was a heatwave and a stray dog showed up to the bar. The care for this animal was incredible (to the point that one of the staff members took her home to try and reunite her with the owner).
A very beautiful venue on first appearance but quite dated and shabby rooms despite being encouraged into spending an extra £20per night to upgrade. The room was basic, had not been cleaned to expected standards and the kettle was disgusting. Phoned to request a new kettle and 3hrs later (nearly midnight at this point had to phone again and ask again. Turned up with another dirty kettle. I was too tired to even complain at that point. Service was poor, long waits. Food arrived cold and not really worth the value you pay, drinks arrived some time later. Very young waiting staff and shows. Cancelled our dinner reservation for the following night as not worth the money. The spa was okay but pool cold and as its open to public/swim lessons etc its not very luxury spa feeling. The massage however was the best massage I've ever had.
I had prebooked afternoon tea and the girl serving us made me feel very uncomfortable, asked for my slip (what slip?), evidence of booking, email proof and basically could have just found me by asking my name and room number. Not a smile out of her the whole time. As it was very hot (current heatwave) i asked if we could have soft drinks instead of a pot of tea, this obviously vexed her and im pretty sure the cordial and soda water (at £3.50) was added to our bill instead of being swapped for the tea. Very standard afternoon tea, nothing special about it for £60. Had far better for less.
Tried having a meal in the bar and that was a farce, half didnt arrive and had to be chased, I asked for ceasar salad with halloumi and it arrived with chicken pieces also in! Again just very young staff and not experienced in hospitality. Booked this as a special 2night spa retreat for my daughter'd 18th but I've been to much better venues and spas for less than I paid for this. Over priced, not really good value for your money and needs a good refurb in areas. Actually quite disappointed in this place but spending time with my daughter made the two days fabulous.
We’ve visited Slaley before, and always enjoy our time here. Hotel is very nice, rooms clean, spacious etc. Food is very good. Staff polite, professional.
Grounds are wonderful
The Golf
Hotel felt outdated and as though it needs a big investment to get it up to scratch
The walk from the car park is very steep and it should be noted that you can drop off near the entrance but still have to park and walk back up
Some people were really struggling
Beautiful hotel in a stunning location.
The room was good for the price with a fridge which really pleased us.
The bar is a lovely place with impeccable service throughout our stay, possibly the reason we re-visited as the service was amazing last time too.
The reception staff were also very professional and lovely and a special shout out to Marcus who was very engaging and entertaining on check in.
My only slight disappointment was the breakfast service which needs some attention as we were left waiting a few times for someone to show up to greet us and customers needed to ask for food to be replaced which had run out.
I enjoyed the stay and would definitely visit again.
Had a lovely stay here but just a few little attention to detail issues that could have made it perfect.
The £45 payment for charging the car was refunded twice as it wouldn’t work so if you were relying on charging your car you’d be stuck as charger would not work. Told reception and they just say it’s a third party which is generally the case. However, out of order signs might prevent customers from wasting their time!
Got the breakfast and dinner package. When we sat down to dinner the waitress told us that the children could have the full 3 course children’s menu included (when we went to pay our bill the next day, we were then told that the children are not included in the meal so all had to be paid for) was told it’s £35 per person (then told when paying that this does not include your drink). Then everything we ordered had something missing because they didn’t have it (the cheese from the children’s pasta, the curry sauce for the fish and chips, the passion fruit martini for the passion fruit martini). The most disappointing missing item was the bacon from breakfast. I just think these things are easily rectified. If you run out of bacon, just go and buy some. Breakfast lasted for another 1.5 hours after our arrival so running out was a terrible excuse! Also had 3 coffee machines but only one worked yet no signage to say the other 2 were broken so lots of people struggling with them before then joining the back of the queue for the one working coffee machine! Again, just an out of order sign would help! Never the less we had a lovely stay but just think these small issues could be very easily prevented if staff had better training and were able to use their initiative.
Set in beautiful countryside, a gem of a hotel with lovely public areas and a good restaurant. all very clean and well presented.
Had a great Spa Day at Slaley Hall. Visited last week and thoroughly enjoyed our day out. The hall and surroundings is lovely. I had a facial and a neck and shoulder massage. My therapist was Donna who was excellent ! My skin felt amazing following the treatment and she was very attentive to my needs.
Had statement room very comfortable, limited aircon no view other the over the entrance of the hotel, rowdy golfers returning to hotel after night out in Newcastle woke up whole hotel with shouting and drunken loud noise/ voices.
Lot of it still had scaffolding and on going daily noisy repairs.
Breakfast poor
No communication and very inexperienced staff.
Fantastic location, lovely room and views. Fabulous Spa and Spa area. Wonderful views and setting.
Great bar area and service and lovely small lounge areas to sit and relax.
Lovely area outside for drinks and to admire the views
The only small criticism is the restaurant. The service was "very slow" and there was no restaurant manager so the staff were stood around waiting to serve, but not clearing the 15-20 tables that needed clearing around us ( didn't look that great!) - they were very polite but just needed some direction.
The food was lovely.😀
The location of Slaley Hall is fantastic and is very peaceful. We have been to Slaley Hall before so we knew the how amazing the golf course and dinning are at this hotel. Both golf courses are well maintained and a joy to play. The rooms are clean and the beds are extremely comfortable. The dining room is very pleasant and you are able to have a conversation without hearing too much noise from other diners. The food is very tasty and our wait staff member Ana help me to decide on my main meal when asked about a particular dish. I would definitely recommend this hotel
