2 of the 3 lifts were not working during the stay. We were on the 1st floor so going up 11 flights of stairs to have breakfast was far from ideal (everyone was trying to use the one lift!!)
The view from the window was wonderful, only let down by the weather, but then with Mount Edgcumb shrouded in mist, it was still quite dramatic. The room was of a nice size with a sofa-bed, which we only used as a sofa, right by the window, and the bed was comfortable. Access to the Club lounge meant we could get free tipples and canapes, again with a view over Western Plymouth.
Spent a few hours in the pool, which seems to have been updated since we were last there, and it was lovely when we got an occasional glimpse of the sun.
The bathroom was tiny; I'm 6ft4in tall and had to stoop in the shower. I would have been happy to sacrifice the 14ft corridor for a little more space. Judging by the fire scape floor plan, ours was among the smallest of all the rooms on our floor.
The sofa was lovely, but I'm guessing that in the original configuration of the room, it was sited closer to the TV (the blanked-over sockets certainly suggest that), which didn't make for comfortable viewing.
The "emperor" size bed was just two large singles zipped together which mean we spent night on the edge of it to avoid the feeling of being just about to fall down the gap between the two.
The breakfast was a case of food being undercooked and left on a tepid hotplate, so the "fried" eggs resembled vinyl dog toys (and felt like it under a knife), the bacon was loose and flabby and the sausages were dry and tasteless, without them ever reaching the point where the sugars in the food develop. All the food was basically just "warm". And don't mention the coffee! Mid you, ALL hotel coffee is awful (we smuggled in some coffee bags). I was glad we got breakfast as a part of the cost because I wouldn't have paid for it, and we only did it twice.
Another hangover of the hotel's age is the size and configuration of the car park; although we arrived by train, we hired a car. The car-park is so tight, simply driving around to find a space we could fit into was a task in itself. Bear in mind that since the early 70s, cars have increased in size by 25-30%, but the spaces haven't.
The room was spacious and beds were comfortable. The gym and pool were amazing. The location was perfect as it was close to the ocean and all the main attractions (restaurants, mall, harbour).
The breakfast could have included a better variety of fruit and barista made coffee. The room amenities should have been restocked before our arrival.
Perfect position on the Hoe - close to all amenities in Plymouth. Large room, comfortable bed.

Clean, modern, well designed, comfy bed, spacious room, straightforward check in.
The curtains in our room had holes in them and needed updating. Breakfast felt hectic and we werent offered coffee or table service like we have had in the past. I also thing the upstairs bar would be better if it opened later.
