Very clean, well looked after, comfortable, great shower and Tv
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Basingstoke while travelling for business, and unfortunately I experienced what I consider to be a very serious security issue.
Upon check-in, I was given a room key and went to what I believed was my allocated room. When I opened the door, I noticed the room contained two single beds rather than the double room I had booked. I then checked my room allocation slip and rechecked the room number on the door. To my horror, I realised that I had accidentally entered another guest's room.
I immediately tried the room I had actually been allocated, and my key card opened the door as expected.
However, the situation became even more concerning when I discovered that a colleague I was travelling with, who was staying in a completely different room in another part of the hotel, was also able to open doors using his key card.
All this has been captured with video recordings and pictures.
This raises a very serious question about the security of the hotel's room access system. As a guest, I would expect my key card to provide access only to my allocated room, not to other occupied guest rooms.
I raised the issue immediately with hotel management. The explanation I was given was that refurbishment work was taking place and locks were being changed. I found this explanation unconvincing, particularly as the hotel uses digital key-card access.
I have also contacted IHG Guest Relations more than five times and provided my case reference. Unfortunately, despite being told that hotel management would contact me, I have received no call or meaningful follow-up. I have simply been told that this is an issue for the hotel to deal with. No refund, no help - nothing.
I find this extremely disappointing. This was not simply a minor inconvenience or a service issue; it was, in my view, a significant security concern.
Fortunately, on this occasion, I was the person who accidentally entered the wrong room. But what if the situation had been reversed? What if another guest had been able to access my room while I or my belongings were inside? What if this had happened to a family travelling with young children?
I sincerely hope the hotel and IHG take this matter seriously, investigate exactly how this happened, and ensure that it cannot happen again. This is second time staying at IHG and puts me off ever staying at their locations.
I would strongly encourage management to review the security of the room access system and provide a proper explanation to affected guests. I am still waiting for someone from the hotel to contact me.
We used this for a early ferry to isle of wight quick access to main road great vaule clean and tidy modern rooms and bar area .
Everything was good, a comfortable and clean room, very very helpful staff. I really appreciated the late check out.
There was quite a lot of noise from other guests, but it was summer and a lot of people milling around outside which made noise audible.
The property is in need of refurbishing
convenient
Staffs were friendly and helpful
The a/c wasn't working
Despite these issues, the breakfast service was notably well-prepared and visually appealing.
The quality of the food fell short of expectations, as both the taste and presentation were subpar, resulting in an unappealing dining experience. Specifically, the chicken burger appeared to consist of reconstituted meat, which detracted from its overall appeal.Additionally, the bedding was uncomfortable due to its lumpy texture, contributing to a poor night’s sleep and neck ache .
Location to Basingstoke was the only real benefit.
The rooms were advertised as having aircon. Despite it allegedly working, the room was stiffling. We asked for this to be looked at and despite staff coming and saying that they would get the maintenance team to look at it, it wasn't fixed and we had little sleep that night.
The walls were paper thin and we could hear every conversation happening next door.
Lastly, when checking out, we had to wait a good 5 minutes, along with another guest, while the receptionist had a private conversation with her partner. I wouldn't have paid £10 for the room, nevermind £150, had I have known.
Clean . Fair sized room. Air conditooning . Good sized tv
Bed a bit hard
Extremely good air conditioning
It’s a little bit tired looking in places, however renovations are happening
The location
